Kind of snookered themselves with a 60m release clause.  I think palace will get picked to the bone

He had 19 months left on his contract, he wouldn't sign a new contract without a release clause and I don't think anybody anticipated back in October we would be the second coming of 90's Brazil. The club did the right thing.

Let’s be honest it’s fair value too, £68m in total. You’ve done the right thing, as a club that doesn’t have the backing of an entire state or the income of sides like Arsenal and United, you have done well to protect your assets and now you can reinvest should he leave.

I actually can’t remember the last big player Palace sold, so you’ve done well really.

I think Eze could easily fetch 90m in todays climate.

Man City joining in the race now

Quote

City have a long-standing admiration for Eze, one of the biggest talents in the Premier League outside the top four. He has three years left on his contract at Palace and a release clause of £60m plus add-ons.

The south London club will not allow him to leave for any less. Especially after losing another of their rising stars, Michael Olise, to Bayern Munich. The defending champions are particularly impressed by his low maintenance temperament and his versatility, as he can play in a number of positions.

Last season he was outstanding for Palace, despite having his campaign interrupted by injury. He scored 11 times and provided four assists to lift Oliver Glasner’s side into a tenth-place finish in the Premier League.

Full article seems to imply this would only happen if De Bruyne left, which seems unlikely now.

I'll feel a lot more confident this is legit when Ornstein confirms it as opposed to Romano, but assuming it is real, it speaks volumes that nobody close to Eze leaked this deadline.
