Aye, the sounds were Martian winds if I remember right?

Yep! But even then, it's not exactly true sound. Curiosity didn't have any microphones, and the recorded sound actually came from InSight's instrument measuring marsquakes and air pressure sensor, and then NASA raised the pitch a few octaves up so that a human ear could hear it.

Meanwhile, Perseverance has two microphones, so this will be the first time we will have true recorded audio on Mars. We should already hear it once the landing video is released...

NASA's Mars Helicopter Reports In

Mission controllers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California have received the first status report from the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, which landed Feb. 18, 2021, at Jezero Crater attached to the belly of the agency’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover. The downlink, which arrived at 3:30 p.m. PST (6:30 p.m. EST) via a connection through the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, indicates that both the helicopter, which will remain attached to the rover for 30 to 60 days, and its base station (an electrical box on the rover that stores and routes communications between the rotorcraft and Earth) are operating as expected.

“There are two big-ticket items we are looking for in the data: the state of charge of Ingenuity’s batteries as well as confirmation the base station is operating as designed, commanding heaters to turn off and on to keep the helicopter’s electronics within an expected range,” said Tim Canham, Ingenuity Mars Helicopter operations lead at JPL. “Both appear to be working great. With this positive report, we will move forward with tomorrow’s charge of the helicopter’s batteries.”

Mars news all good

Data indicate all systems fine and helicopter Ingenuity working as expected.

Less than a day after NASA’s Perseverance rover successfully landed, the agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), in Southern California, reported that data relayed by several Mars-orbiting spacecraft indicated that everything appeared to be in working order.

NASA/JPL released several photos, including a spectacular high-res image taken during the rover’s landing. Perseverance’s cameras are intended to capture video of its touchdown, from which the image was taken; as of the weekend the full video was still being relayed to Earth and processed.

They released the EDL video in the press conference!

Mind blowing :o

Unfortunately, the microphone didn't work during the entry, descent and landing stage, but we got the first sounds from the surface after it landed! 😊

First ever recorded sound from another planet!

There's already over 30GB of data that is being uploaded to the NASA website.
