Robinho: Former Man City forward joins Emmanuel Adebayor at Istanbul Basaksehir

18 minutes ago | European Football

Former Manchester City forward Robinho has agreed to join Turkish Super Lig leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.

The 34-year-old, who broke the British transfer record when joining City from Real Madrid for £32.5m in 2008, arrives from fellow Turkish club Sivasspor.

He will join former City team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor at Basaksehir, plus Gael Clichy, who played at the Etihad Stadium after Robinho left in 2010.

Basaksehir were knocked out of the Europa League by Burnley in August.

Robinho, who began his career in his native Brazil with Santos, spent five years with AC Milan after leaving City, before playing in China for Guangzhou Evergrande and returning to his home country to join Atletico Mineiro.

In November 2017, he was sentenced in his absence by an Italian court to nine years in prison after being convicted, along with five other Brazilians, of the 2013 gang rape of an Albanian woman in a Milan nightclub.

Robinho, who pleaded not guilty via his lawyer during the case and subsequently published an Instagram post denying any wrongdoing, said he would contest the sentence.

He went from Arsenal to City, not Madrid.

        Sural joined Alanyaspor in January

Czech international striker Josef Sural has been killed after a bus carrying several of Turkish club Aytemiz Alanyaspor's players crashed.

Sural, 28, died at the hospital where he and six of his team-mates were taken after a bus carrying them back from a game at Kayserispor crashed on Sunday.

Seven of the Super Lig's club's players had rented the private minibus.

Club chairman Hasan Cavusoglu claimed the driver of the minibus had fallen asleep at the wheel.

A second on-board driver was also reportedly asleep when the accident happened around three miles from the club's home city of Alanya.

On Twitter, the club posted: "We have learned with deep sorrow that Josef Sural lost his life as a result of an accident carrying seven football players from Alanyaspor."

Cavusoglu said the six other players on board were not in a critical condition.

Former Spurs, Cardiff and QPR defender Steven Caulker and ex-Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse play for Alanyaspor.

Caulker scored in the 1-1 draw at Kayserispor but it is not yet known whether he and Cisse were among the group of players who chose to use the minibus, while the rest of the club's players and staff travelled on a team bus or on their own.

Sural joined Alanyaspor from Sparta Prague in January.

He made 20 appearances for his country, last featuring in their Nations League defeat by Ukraine in October.

Rangers: Daniel Candeias holds talks with Turkish club

Rangers have "reluctantly but respectfully" allowed Daniel Candeias to talk to a Turkish side about a possible move, says Steven Gerrard.

The Portuguese winger, 31, is in the final year of his Ibrox contract.

He was not involved in either leg of Rangers' 10-0 Europa League first qualifying round rout of St Joseph's.

Speaking after Thursday's 6-0 home win, manager Gerrard said he wanted Candeias to "stay and fight for the shirt", but feels the player "wants to move on".

The club Candeias is poised to join is reported to be Genclerbirligi and the Ibrox manager added: "I had a conversation on Wednesday with Daniel and he said he wanted to go and speak to a team in Turkey. We've had an approach and we had a real adult conversation.

Turkish league is made. Might pay more attention to it in future lol

Just watched Konyaspor go 1-0 down to Basaksehir, go 3-1 up by half-time, get pegged back 3-3 and then score a late winner xD

And then this is how it leaves the championship & relegation battles. Trabzonspor lost to Denizlispor too, missing out on closing the gap on 1st...

Remaining fixtures:

Rizespor vs Yeni
Denizlispor vs Ankaragacu
Basaksehir vs Kayserispor
Trabzonspor vs Konyaspor
Kayserispor vs Trabzonspor

I have usually always enjoyed the Turkish league, as it's actually televised here. But I feel like you missed one of the biggest races this year, and that's for Europe alone with Beskitas holding the last spot, and being followed by Galatasary, Fenerbahce, and Alanyaspor
