His second paragraph is also wild tbh. "Globalism which is the leftist utopia is the destruction of nationhood and the establishment of a one over all. Rejecting it is not bigoted, its just rejecting the move back to empires and monarchs." Let's break it down. First is the term "globalism" - which the alt right and far right love to rally against. The alt-right and far right also use "globalist" as a politically correct slur for Jews https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/03/the-origins-of-the-globalist-slur/555479/ - so it's interesting to see a passionate zionist use the term lol. But secondly, "globalism is a leftist utopia" - but often when the right criticises globalism, I'm not sure what the fuck they're actually talking about. Do they mean the modern global economy? The modern global economy which is... dominated by the US? Because the US government is pretty far from leftist. Joe Biden, this so called left leaning socialist, would be a tory in UK politics... So if we take him to mean "globalism" as "the US global hegemony" - I think by definition, globalism isn't a leftist utopia. If anything it's a pretty right-leaning ideal. Next, let's dissect the claim that "globalism [...] is the destruction of nationhood and the establishment of one over all." As far as I can tell, nationhood still exists. There are different countries all around the world still, we've been watching an international football tournament where nations are represented by their national teams. Has the US been able to assert it's will over every country in the world? Well right now we've got Russia having invaded Ukraine and continuing their long war, against the US wishes. We've got Israel's government in an open rift with the US government. So I think it's fair to state that the claim that this globalist world we're living in has not led to the destruction of nationhood, nor have we seen the establishment of one over all. Next, we see a claim that a rejection of globalism is a rejection of the move back to empires and monarchs. Let's disregard the monarch claim because: 1.) there's several countries in the world that still have absolute monarchies, 2.) lol... if we're breaking his statement down at face value we're talking about US global hegemony - who exactly is the monarch of the United States? So let's just discuss the empire claim. The country that's most openly stated they reject US global hegemony is Russia. Russia is currently engaged in an expansionist war, trying to take away sovereignty from its neighbor in a move that can best be described as Putin desperately wishing he was ruling Imperial Russia. So the country most openly rejecting what most far-right people would call globalism is in fact... acting imperialistically. And returning back to that "establishment of a one over all" claim is so funny when someone who's a believer in BRICS makes the claim. BRICS is an attempt to challenge US economic hegemony... but because China is by far and away the biggest economic player in BRICS, they dominate BRICS (this is very much reflected by BRICS's New Development Bank's loans and funding). A believer in BRICS is a believer in China's economic rule over the other member states. And that's ignoring the fact that BRICS is a joke - they'll never be an effective economic union so long as the member states aren't anywhere close to having the same economic goals. It's just a paragraph of word salad put together with various buzzwords... but without much thought into what those words actually mean. It's bizarre. I think it's wild he can demonstrate so little knowledge about what he seems to so passionately hold as his political beliefs. In one sentence we've got a zionist using anti-semetic rhetoric... and then following it up with a hypocritical and nonsense statement. It's bizarre isn't it?

That's a good point. So I don't think Scotland should feel too bad about this - losing to Germany, getting a point of Switzerland, and beating Hungary is probably something they'd have found both realistic and optimistic for their chances to get through. But yeah, obviously they'd much rather have preferred to beat Switzerland and had an easier go of getting through lol.
-
I don't think it was essential for Scotland to win tonight, it obviously wasn't as they can still go through if they beat Hungary and Germany beat Switzerland. But it obviously would have been better to win. Germany have basically locked up the top spot in the group, barring an absolutely catastrophic/hilarious loss to Switzerland. Wouldn't be shocked at all if there's some heavy rotation for their final group match, although idk if Nagelsmann's the kind of manager to do that (if it was me, I probably would - but I'm not a football manager). So that leaves both Hungary and Scotland both desperate to beat each other, with Switzerland also going to do their best to make it through the group as well. And they only need a point. The dream's not over for Scotland... and I'm sure even a German team that's resting it's top players will beat Switzerland tbh. But it definitely is less ideal for them. Gotta say though, it's nice to see that Shaqiri can still turn up in these tournaments and that he's still got the ability to score incredible goals like that. Love that little cube of a man.

Leicester City Discussion

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13155319/steve-cooper-close-to-being-appointed-new-leicester-city-head-coach Steve Cooper to be their new manager. Weird one, but I do think it’s a bit hard to judge how he’s done with Forest considering they’ve been a circus since getting promoted. But definitely doesn’t feel as safe as appointing Potter, but he must have turned them down. -

I agree with this. The imbalance in the squad also left us with Kane, Foden, and Bellingham all occupying the same space. That with a right footed left back meant we didn’t have a lot of width - just really leaving Saka as our main wide outlet. Kind of negates the strengths of playing Trent in the centre in the first place lol, no real width so no real stretching the play & not many runs in behind with that starting lineup and the way we were set up. If we don’t change tactics I think we’re just going to see more of the same -

I actually feel bad for the Scotland players. Probably had so much hope going into the tournament, Scotland's first tournament in ages. Knowing they're up against Germany... in Germany - a real test. But they've failed that test lol and this could set an unpleasant tone for them the rest of the group stages.

Yeah lol, probably not the best way to run the club long term. Looks like the Roma owner's worked out a deal with Moshiri.

Do you need to sell just to avoid the points deduction? Or do you need to sell before you can make any signings without falling afoul of the rules? If it's the points deduction, then yeah - gotta sell someone to clear the bar. If it's just to sign anyone, it honestly might be worth a gamble by the club to only really on the youth team and reserve to add to the squad this summer. Everton, without the points deduction, weren't really relegation battlers. Could probably finish midtable with the current squad and get some kids some valuable experience to push their development on a tad. Obviously could backfire. But if you've got to sell just to avoid the points deduction, that's way too fucking risky.

Andor was great, imo the best of the Disney shows. It shows you can tell a great Star Wars story without even using the Jedi. I think some people got hyper critical of it because it was blatantly political - but it's blatantly against fascism, which is a central theme of the original Star Wars films I also don't see how any Star Wars fan of the prequels/Clone Wars wouldn't like Kenobi. I still haven't got round to watching the other animated Star Wars shows - honestly, I found Clone Wars hard to get into... but after the first season it stopped being Star Wars for kids and more of an animated Star Wars show for Star Wars fans generally, or Asoka. But because I like Star Wars, I think chances are I'd like them. To me, the Star Wars IP seems a lot more thought out than a lot of the Marvel crap they were just churning out - and I think Bob Iger was right to have Disney pull back on releasing so much of that shit. So far, I don't have many complaints about The Acolyte. They're touching on a part of the Star Wars universe timeline people generally don't know all that much about, so that's cool. I think a lot of shows suffer to draw in an interest in the first season because they can be a bit of a slow burn... this show doesn't do that. The first 5 minutes start the show off with a bang and it's not really a slow moving series - so I think it's pretty easy for people who like Star Wars style action to get into. So far, so good. Looking forward to the next episode.

Tbf Star Wars has always had a good story that’s captured imaginations and told a good story, despite some writing that can be described as clumsy at best - going back to the original trilogy. I feel like the prequels try to retcon some of the plot holes of the original, but the poor writing of those meant that plot holes from that had to be retconned by the Clone Wars series. Imo the worst Disney has done to Star Wars is their own trilogy of films that are meant to come after the originals. I thought those were generally crap - that left plot holes that need to be filled by The Mandalorian & the Book of Boba Fett.

I started it yesterday and watched all the episodes available… thought it was pretty good tbh. I think I see what a right wing culture warrior who hates Disney because they are “woke” wouldn’t like the show (compared to the original trilogy and prequels, the cast of this is distinctly less white) - but otherwise if you’ve liked literally any of the other Star Wars TV shows that have come out recently, you’ll probably like this.

You aren't seriously concerned about combat realism in a show about space wizards that fight with light swords are you?

Ethnonationalism has been the direct cause of some of the worst atrocities humans are capable of - it is absolutely bad and the people who push ethnonationalism are dangerous. Wanting to reduce illegal immigration is not a form of fascism. Fear mongering all immigrants and making it seem like a country is completely bombarded with terrorists and criminals, when it's not even taking in all that many immigrants/refugees on the grand scale of things, is a fascist move to gain power. Nationalism and stupidity caused WW1. Patriotism isn't bad, nationalism is - conflating the two is dangerous. Reform UK's a brainchild of Nigel Farage, one of the architects of the disaster that Brexit has been. That the party has only existed since 2018 does note absolve Farage of his role in the economic catastrophe he's a part of. Recent articles on India show that India's got more US dollars in federal reserve currency than they ever have before. BRICS is a joke.
