It is based on a true story and with the actors (Hill, Teller and Cooper) had the potential of becoming a brilliant flick. Unfortunately with poor direction, it ends up being nothing more than decent. It's an average flick, but all throughout I kept wondering that if someone like Scorsese had directed it then it would have been special. @topic Watched Roman Holiday. It's a lovely romantic flick with very likeable characters, especially Audrey Hepburn who is just adorable.

England's bowling is going to cost them against better sides. As for Afghanistan. This match is gone but they should have showed this resolve against the Lankans. They could have won that.

Finished watching the latest season of Modern Family. There is quite a bit of an improvement from the previous season. I thought season nine was the weakest. But I am glad they are ending it after eleven. Despite season ten being good, it has lost a lot of its sparkle.

A brilliant and long piece on MH370's disappearance, the botched search afterwards, conspiracies and possible causes. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/07/mh370-malaysia-airlines/590653/?fbclid=IwAR2lQzGRhlyCIcjePEOwDkACSmIseH3ZnhvoUdFwakYe9f_ZQr7XN2bJtWY&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share The theory of the captain going rogue seems most likely now.

More about bad planning and injuries. Their bowling was only about bouncing the opponent out. Worked in the initial matches, but the next teams figured it out. You need a plan B. Russell's injury has also cost them, as well. He looks half the player. Kinda disappointed with them. But nice of Bangladesh to win. The top four was threatening to stretch away, but Bangladesh keep things interesting. Kiwis have tough matches and England's injury troubles could cost one of those two sides a place in the semis. Windies and/or Pakistan are going to stop somebody from getting to the semis.

Record kept intact, and it stands at 7-0. I am not a fan of Shanker, and wanted DK to come in instead, but kudos to Shanker for that performance. Rahul as well, not spectacular, but was key in that good start. Not surprised with Rohit. Such a class act. Pakistan Twitter is the best thing on the planet right now. Their jokes are proper hilarious.

Lovely gesture by Virat asking the fans to applaud Smith instead of booing him. Good performance by the side. All batsmen in form and bowlers looking good. Bhuvi finally back in rhythm. All looks good for us.

Watched Captain Marvel. It's actually a really good flick. With the non-linear storyline they give a nice new take on an origin story, with likeable characters and a very likeable cat. Fury, unlike in the other Marvel flicks, is chilled out here and funny. Larson is actually decent. She tries hard to be likeable but comes across as wooden at times. I won't deny that her bad behaviour during the promotion of the flick may have had an effect on me while watching this flick. I went in not wanting to like her, and by the time movie ended I thought she is not that bad in the flick. Which makes the controversy seem so unnecessary. She was provided a fabulous platform, which could have made her a fan favourite and she wasted it by needlessly attacking one section of the fans. Also watched Pokemon Detective Pikachu. It's a fun flick, but it made entertaining by Ryan Reynold's presence. A lot of humour is typical of Reynolds and you can tell. Visually it is good. If you are a fan of Pokemon then you will enjoy it. Finally, John Wick 3. I am officially a fan of the franchise. The amount of thought and planning they are putting in all these creative fight scenes is amazing. Just absolutely fun this one. And it helps that I watched it in the theatre. Makes it more enjoyable. The antique shop fight was by far my favourite.

I am watching the TV series adaptation of the movie What we do in the shadows and it's a hilarious little show. @Bluewolf you need to get on this.

Just finished reading this chilling account of genocide by the communist state government that ruled in West Bengal. The shocking fact is that this event is rarely mentioned in the country. Not really surprised. The communists here, whenever in power, have ruled with an iron fist.

The tournament was threatening to be shite until the last two matches. I still don't like the format. Add teams like Ireland, Zim, etc and make smaller groups and then Quarters, Semis and Final. That is hell more entertaining. Great performance by Bangladesh and an unsurprising comeback from Pakistan, who truly are a weird side.

So, I came across this crazy and entertaining thread on Vince McMahon. Link to the entire thread, which has around 50 or less stories of him in tweets. Some samples.

That's a shame. I have always liked Junaid's bowling style. I think he is a top bowler.
-
My sentiments exactly.

Three very unique replies to being dropped from the World Cup squad. Junaid's response seems angry, and understandable. @Azeem you need to tell us more, if there are any groups in the squad. Also, are Malik's issues sorted out? He went back home during a series. The other response were less angry. I thought Ambati Rayudu's response was witty, after the selectors stated that they wanted to take three dimensional cricketers to the World Cup. David Willey's is just plain classy.

Wife, who loves pets, had taken a set of dog movies for the village trip. So watched these. A dog's way home. I enjoyed this one. Story was very basic, but done well. Ideal for kids and dog lovers. A dog's purpose. Based on a novel, with Dennis Quaid in the lead. Felt stretched and too sweet at times. But a decent flick, nothing special. Zeus and Roxanne Typical 90s movie, strictly meant for the kids, where Arnold Vasloo, the villain from the Mummy series, makes an arse of himself. At least I could stare at Kathleen Quinlan, the cute milf from the Twilight Zone movie. Alpha. Technically it's a wolf, but this was a really good survival flick. Probably the one I enjoyed the most. Shame I didn't see this in the theatre, cause it would have been more enjoyable. That would have been enough dog movies for me, but I am going to watch John Wick 3 sometime this week. Should be fun, considering the good reviews it's received.

This was done for the money, but surely the money from the friendly pales in comparison to what you make in the UCL. I mean, imagine fucking up your side by losing an important first team player for a match that can actually give you a trophy and more importantly UCL qualification. Your boardroom needs a proper cleanse.

This is an amazing interview. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/may/16/nick-kyrgios-slams-cringeworthy-djokovic-and-salty-nadal-ahead-of-french-open I have never liked Kyrgios. But this interview was a good read. Some harsh words for Nadal and Djokovic.

Apparently Weiss and Benioff are developing a Star Wars trilogy. And that could explain their hurry in completing this series, even when HBO was willing to give them more revenue to do more seasons.
-
The blame only lies with Weiss and Beinoff. Maybe they got bored of the series and wanted to quickly end it to move onto other things. Shame really. @topic Apart from the rushed bit (which you could say about the entire season), I thought the episode was okay. Cleganebowl felt underwhelming. Dany's turn rushed. Varys' end abrupt, but necessary.

Been a class signing. A lot of people choose to give the credit to the defence. The defence has been great, but Alisson has bailed us out on so many occasions.
-
At least one of my teams won a title today. Winning by one run. What a game. Great innings by Watson, but Malinga's experience won the game. Also, Bumrah is the best bowler in the world. Rohit has mastered four title wins, and the man who is going to be most worried is Virat. Also, possibly the best IPL, with so many close games in the entire tournament. On to the World Cup.

That old woman is really good at acting. Trailer looked good. Really looking forward to it.

People in England, is rain going to be an issue during the World Cup?

Watched Extremely wicked, shockingly wild and evil. I don't understand the bad ratings on RT. It's a good flick which almost leads you to question whether Ted Bundy was guilty or not until the very end. They showed that in a good way, aided by a brilliant performance from Zac Efron and equally good act by Lily Collins. On a side note mark my words, fat Haley Joel Osment is going to rock so many dad roles, before clutching an Oscar as a dad in a family drama. He seems like a really nice man. Also, was surprised to see James Metallica Hetfield as the cop. Surprised this was not released near awards months. Efron still might get a nom.
