  1. Well, not being satisfied with the quality of life, living conditions, corrupt politicians, low wages, lack of transparity and equality, lack of adequate education and career opportunies is a pretty good reason to criticise your own country, I'd say, and that often happens to be the case in the so-called "third world". Everyone wants to be able to live a comfortable life, and if your country can't offer you that, you're naturally going to be disillusioned with it.
  2. Much easier for a South American to migrate to the USA than to Australia, New Zealand or Western Europe though... To be allowed in, and then to work and live in most of those countries you have to fit a pretty strict list of requirements, and it's hard to sneak through illegaly if the air route is the only way in.
  3. Oh of course, there are plenty of people who come to the US seeking asylum due to instability of their home country or persecution they face back home for their political/religious beliefs or even sexual orientation. But still, seeking "better life" in terms of financial gain and wellbeing has been always one of the main reasons of moving there; that was the key thing behind the "American Dream". A rich land full of opportunities to make a living. Not much different from East Europeans emigrating to the UK or Scandinavian countries in search of better paid jobs and quality of life.
  4. What's so hard to understand though? In most cases, they flee to the USA in hopes of earning more money for themselves and their families. In other words, it has little to do with the state of democracy, just following the dollar.
  5. "Chairman Milley and I just spoke separately with the Vice President and with Speaker Pelosi, Leader McConnell, Senator Schumer and Representative Hoyer about the situation at the U.S. Capitol. We have fully activated the D.C. National Guard to assist federal and local law enforcement as they work to peacefully address the situation. We are prepared to provide additional support as necessary and appropriate as requested by local authorities. Our people are sworn to defend the constitution and our democratic form of government and they will act accordingly." https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Releases/Release/Article/2464427/statement-by-acting-secretary-miller-on-full-activation-of-dc-national-guard/fbclid/IwAR1tzgWzHAEivqoOouZ434Qh866keyqYF2KWE4UNEx9KG8O_WGZYKjG6t84/ No mention of Trump, seems it was Pence to deploy the National Guard.
  6. "The election was stolen. But go home, we love you. By the way, I should have won. But go home. Thanks!"
  7. Cheers folks, and yeah, geo-blocking is not an issue.
  8. What's the best live stream to follow?
  9. Finished the Von Braun: Dreamer of Space, Engineer of War by Michael Neufeld yesterday. A very solid and fascinating read - well balanced, meticulous, with a lot of technical and engineering details documenting not only Von Braun's life, but also part of the history of USA's space programme. Went through some 700 pages in just a couple of days, although I'm not someone who likes reading biographies, normally. Now reading: First book in Robinson's Mars trilogy that chronicles the colonisation and terraforming of Mars, spanning almost two centuries.
  10. Relax, it was just a joke. However, if you want a serious response regarding Tönnies' financial offer - Schalke had no issues with accepting money from other highly questionable entities in order to save their arses in the past, so not sure why where would be this faux outrage now.
  11. Likely a replacement for Eggestein when he returns back to Bremen in summer then. We'll see how he does.
  12. Nothing in official channels yet...
  13. Yeah, I thought I was having a dejavu when I was typing it
  14. I personally enjoyed Season 3 more than Season 2; there was too much of the teenage love triangle drama bollocks in Season 2 for my liking, and that massive final fight felt extremely unrealistic. And yes, I absolutely agree that they should stop after Season 4, just kick Kreese's arse and be done with it I loved that they showed his background in those flashbacks, by the way... Have you watched Wayne? It also started as a Youtube Premium original at first, then got canceled after Season 1, and is now on Amazon Prime with some rumours about it getting renewed. Highly recommend! Great, funny, easy to binge show.
  15. Watched 1979 Dutch GP last night. Crazy race with only 7 cars finishing. Also this was insane by Gilles Villeneuve:
  16. I don't particularly mind if Australia is gone off calendar again. Boring track. Now, if they could race on Mount Panorama...
  17. Jokes aside, DTM could be interesting this year. They move from silhouette to GT3 spec cars, then we have a Jenson Button team (McLaren) and Keke Rosberg team competing, now it seems Red Bull will be backing a team as well...
  18. Alex Albon and Liam Lawson set to drive in DTM with Red Bull backing in upcoming season!

    Cooking

Cooked Uzbek-style Plov with lamb for the first time today... My grandma used to cook it when I was a kid, and I haven't eaten it for years. Served with a simple tomato & onion salad.
