I'd personally keep him around. An injury or two and you might start to look a bit short.

Agreed, a loan doesn’t benefit us at all unless we want to flog him.

I never understood the Minamino move to Liverpool to be honest. I followed him at Salzburg and never thought he was all that. Premier League standard? Possibly, but definitely not made for a club like Liverpool.

I think it was a punt that Liverpool thought was worth taking given the small fee. If it doesn't work out they make their money back and more. He's not fancied at the moment, clearly. I thought we'd have seen more of him after he started and scored in the 7-0 at Palace before Christmas but he's barely been seen since.

MINAMINO DEAL UPDATE

Sky Sports News' Becky Williams:

"An agreement in principle has been reached, he's undergoing his medical this evening. The negotiations only started this morning, so this is a rather last-minute deal from Southampton, but we know that they are really keen to bring in a player on loan.

"They've had a number of injuries in recent weeks, and Ralph Hasenhuttl has been hinting that he hopes there will be some business done before the deadline."

Don't we have to clear a non-homegrown space for Kabak?

Whether he's played as a midfielder or a forward, Minamino's a long way down the pecking order, so this makes sense. The other alternative is getting rid of Adrian, but someone would have to want to buy him

I did wonder about that rule but wasn't sure whether it only applied to players over 21? Fuck knows

Low cost player that, when playing at his best, looked like a player that could slot in nicely with us.

Imo he’s shown brief moments of quality, but he’s on the fringes of our first team so this loan might be good for him to get a few more chances in the league. As well as a necessity for us to get some defensive cover in the form of a non-homegrown player.

Probably a bit shit for him though. It also leaves us a little light for depth up top. Cant wait til Jota is back.

Better for him to get games somewhere that sit on the bench (at best) at Liverpool I would've thought. Think he needs a run of games to adapt to the league and show what he can do. He just won't get that at Liverpool

I'll be interested to see how he does. There have been a handful of moments to show he might have a bit about him, but he goes missing far too often. This move is a big opportunity because he'll have a very good partner in Danny Ings, but I think it's also a bit make or break because there'll be no one else to point fingers at... provided his team mates don't keep getting themselves sent off as soon as the whistle goes.

Fitting that he's gone to Southampton in way because deep down I fear he might just be Adam Lallana
