Palace one of the few clubs that want him? @The Palace Fan

Mowbray accused a few Premier League clubs yesterday of arguing over a few quid and to just get on with it. 😂

Sad to see him go he’s been brilliant, but we have other decent strikers that will hopefully step up.

It’s frustrating that Newcastle get 40% of any fee we receive.

If he's good enough and ready for the Premier League the only club he should be coming to is us. We won't pay though. If he goes to Palace and does well it'll be a kick in the teeth.

Wouldn't it essentially be paying yourself?

The talk of the town is we had terms agreed with him before Southampton accepted a bid for Danny Ings. Whether that's pure luck on our part or we were aware we were up against it in timing I'm not sure.

The rumour is we are holding for 12 million and not offering a penny more because of his contract status. The belief is Blackburn will want the money for there own squad rebuild and will eventually take the offer. If a Norwich, Watford, Southampton decide to offer 15 million and it gets accepted then more fool us.

Dominic Fifield (our Athletic correspondent) explained that our current spending is based on expected income over the next four years. We did the same thing when Allardyce arrived and we spent close to 80m on four players and then penny pinched for the next four years. So we are being picky in the sense that we have put a budget of 12m up front for a forward as opposed to 7m and then 10m in installments. If we were to pay 16m for a forward we wouldn't be able to get a replacement for either Cahill or Townsend.

This does very much screem of a Dougie Freedman style signing. When he was our manager in The Championship and was responsible for recruitment he targeted Jermaine Easter, Glenn Murray, Jordan Rhodes etc who were all proven goalscorers in the divison below waiting for an opportunity to prove themselves at a higher level.

If Palace really were quibbling over a couple million, that suggests to me they have other irons in the fire.

If they got Armstrong for what they wanted to pay, ideal. If they didn't, they move on to others targets. No big deal. Could be another loan for someone much like the Batshuyai deal in the past.

Saints were desperate. No fucking about, slapped the fee down and are desperate for their man.

I don't think he'll struggle with the step up tbh, especially as a few teams up here have defences that are extremely questionable. It'll be how many chances Saints can create for him but he'll have a great foil playing off Che Adams doing the dirty work beside him.

I would have been happy to see Armstrong join us tbh, brilliant goal scorer in the Championship, he's young, gets in behind defences. Scored a lovely looping goal against us on the edge of the 6 yard box at Griffin Park.

Good business from Southamton, as good as Ings is he is old, injury prone and little to no resale value in the next couple seasons. This is an opportunity for Saints to bring in a solid goal scorer next to Adams and have the resale value of £50m-£80m should he bang in the goals in for fun.
