Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 2 Subscriber Posted December 2 Looks like Perez is on his way out. How Red Bull have ended up giving themselves options of Perez, Ricciardo, Lawson and Tsunoda for one of their seats is actually mind-blowing. Absolutely mental that they didn't try and pick up Sainz. Read an article last week. Was with Marko who does my head in to be honest. But he said a couple of things which I do understand. He was talking about the number 1 and 2 driver situation. He said at Ferrari, Merc and McLaren who have 2 top drivers per team. He said that they'll always be taking points off each other and be competing. I know there are other variables but looking at him and Danny Ric a few years back. It did end up getting tasty, I having a feeling the McLaren drivers might do the same way. Quote

Lawson and Tsunoda aren't going to do much better than him in the long-term. All you're doing by promoting them is ruining their careers at the top level much as they did with Gasly and Albon. With a driver like Sainz you get a good second driver who I rate highly, but I don't think he rocks Verstappen's boat enough to get in the way in the WDC but he does a much better job than Perez has been doing in terms of the WCC. If I was Red Bull I'd have seen Sainz become available and thought I can't believe my luck, the perfect second driver has come available, go and get him. I think Sainz is probably the best driver on the grid who wouldn't get too close to Max. Quote

Maybe they feel too many good moments might cost Max a title. Who knows, but Max is their man and it seems like they don't like upsetting him. I might be wrong but didn't Max and Sainz have beef at TR. Quote
MUFC Posted December 2 Posted December 2 I want RandoEFC and Sainz to do Kelly Piquet face down, while Max is tied to a chair, mouth taped and forced to watch. Quote
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 17 Subscriber Posted December 17 Red Bull really saw how it went with Gasly and Albon when they were promoted to the senior team too soon and decided fuck it, let's go for round three. This time they also achieve the bonus of telling Yuki Tsunoda he'll never get a seat at the top team. Quote
Whiskey Posted December 17 Posted December 17 Yuki Tsunoda isn't good enough for a top team, so I don't see why everyone is so shocked he's not getting the top gig. Lawson is interesting though, could be a masterstroke or a right fuck up. Either way, it's better than Perez. Quote

If he goes to Red Bull and flops then nobody will be able to say they shouldn't have rushed him. With Lawson he's barely had time to develop and going to Red Bull to get crushed by Max is going to end his chance of any career at the elite level like it did for Gasly and Albon. Quote
Panflute Posted December 17 Posted December 17 (edited) There are persistent rumors that a Sainz move didn't happen because there is some beef between the Sainz and Verstappen camps. Red Bull also appear to look for a driver that is either young and can use some time to grow into the role, or a more experienced driver who will accept a clear number 2 role. Sainz fits neither of those descriptions. That's probably why they hung on to Pérez for so long. He was the clear number 2 and the Verstappen camp was happy to keep him in that spot as it wasn't at the time costing Max in the WDC. With Tsunoda, Red Bull appears to have doubts not so much about his driving ability, but about his mentality. They suspect he will easily crack under the pressure when driving against Max and potentially cause a lot of drama within the team. This was reported by Ronald Vording, who talks to Helmut Marko almost every race and is usually very well informed on Red Bull. In any case, I expect Tsunoda to head Aston Martin's way in 2026 when they get Honda motors. Edited December 17 by Panflute 1 Quote
Moderator Tommy Posted December 17 Moderator Posted December 17 I like Yuki, so I'm kinda glad he's not the one getting chewed up by Max next season. Quote

Dave Posted Thursday at 21:05 Posted Thursday at 21:05 Poor Yuki. Pretty sure Lawson didn't beat him once in qualifying. I guess Horner wouldn't want to deal with Max and Yuki on the radio. Quote
MUFC Posted Friday at 08:49 Posted Friday at 08:49 How has Lawsons years been in the lower tiers of racing? Quote
Panflute Posted Friday at 13:32 Posted Friday at 13:32 Tsunoda did indeed outqualify Lawson 6-0 this season in regular qualifying (it was 2-1 to Lawson in sprint quali). However, if you look at the qualifying data, the delta between them was actually very close. Tsunoda of course still had the edge, but for example Lawson was closer to Tsunoda than Piastri was to Norris over 2024. When you compound that with the fact that Lawson has only done a handful of races for VCARB whereas it was Tsunoda's 4th full year with the team, that difference wasn't as resounding as the 6-0 quali whitewash makes it seem. My guess is Red Bull took a gamble and see a lot of growth potential in Lawson. Lawson's aggressive driving in the past few races probably also appealed to the likes of Helmut Marko. Quote
