Glad that the sport is so much safer nowadays but it's this insanity and living on the edge that always made it so appealing; both to participate and to watch. Watched the Argentian GP; the first race in 1978 season last Sunday. The track mostly looked a countryside road surrounded by grass with no barriers. Fantastic Even when I watch races now, with all the safety measurements, I still get anxious right after the start when the whole grid is so close together. I don't know if I can stomach 70's and 80's races, let alone before that time. But I understand the appeal. In hindsight it was absolutely mad though. Oh just the first full season with all races available that I could get my hands on. Didn't want to watch just random single races. Brabham-Alfa Romeo introduced the BT46B in this race, a B version of their car with a huge fan at the back of the car, in order to increase the downforce and so counter the dominance of the ground-effect Lotus 79.
