England Name Final Euro 2024 Squad
Dave replied to MUFC's topic in Group C - Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
Having more time to digest the squad I'd leave out the following: Dean Henderson - If James Trafford is seen as the long term successor for Jordan Pickford then it makes sense to have him go away for a major tournament. Lewis Dunk - We would only be taking him to stand in the wall for free kicks. Jerrell Quansah - I think Southgate's been smart in leaving out Henderson, Phillips, Rashford, Sterling etc as the narrative would be around there inclusions at this point. There will also be less debate when he leaves out Quansah and Wharton from the final squad. Marc Guehi - I think Southgate will take him as hes been round the England set up at all age groups but if Joe Gomez is being taken as a backup left back that can play center back we only need one reserve left footed center back and i just think Jarrad Branthwaite is the better footballer at present. Curtis Jones - It's the same as Quansah really. He hasn't gained an England cap so it may be an opportunity to see what he can do in friendlies for future squads. Adam Wharton - Same rationale again. I do wonder though if by calling up so many players who may be ready in two years is an indicator that Gareth Southgate is planning to stay beyond the Euros. Jack Grealish - This was the most difficult decision out of him, Eze and Maddison. I don't know what Grealish's character standing is in the England dressing room but I think it's similar position to Marcus Rashford where there's just more deserving players based on minutes played and current form. We're also stacked for wide players which helps. So final squad would be: Pickford, Ramsgate, Trafford Walker, Trippier, Maguire, Stones, Branthwaite, Konsa, Shaw, Gomez, Trent, Rice, Mainoo, Gallagher, Foden, Saka, Bellingham, Palmer, Eze, Gordon, Bowen, Maddison Kane, Watkins, Toney Personally I would have taken Mitchell and Solanke in this preliminary squad to see whether they could make the cut but they'd be squad players so it's not worth fretting about. -
Yeah, you would only bet on somebody else at this point if you think there's a major discrepancy in betting odds. There squad is borderline disgusting and they're set up to get the best out of him.

Mauricio Pochettino Leaves Chelsea
Dave replied to MUFC's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
I imagine what's happened is that Pochettino went in to the end of the season review with a little clout following the recent upturn in form and the club have not differed from the approach they want to take. I think its safe to say they'll stick to there philosophy of signing young players to develop as opposed to bringing in experience whilst selling academy players to improve there PSR position and both parties agreed it was best to part ways. Which must be frustrating for the fans as they've lost Thiago Silva and they'll probably lose Conor Gallagher at a time when they should be adding experience to the group they already had. As for his replacement, whilst none of the names mentioned would give me optimism as a fan I do think Thomas Frank would be an interesting choice. I don't think his stock has been largely affected by Brentford's finish due to the injuries he's contested with and he may see a rebuild without possibly Toney and/or Mbuemo as an appropriate to let a new manager take over. I don't think it's the right jump for Kieron McKenna to make at this point. He's better off going to a team like Brighton where there will be more patience to get things right in the first season as opposed to a Chelsea or Manchester United. -
I usually back Harry Kane for every major tournament, but given he's played against such poor opposition on a weekly basis over the last year I do wonder if he's going to be able to raise his game to the levels needed to claim the golden boot. An outsider may be Cristiano Ronaldo if Portugal progress far in this tournament. Roberto Martinez has fixed a formation where Ronaldo isn't a hindrance to a team that won all there qualifiers. Romelu Lukaku scored the most goals in qualifiers but Belgium's opponent look slightly more difficult than Portugal's on paper.

England Name Final Euro 2024 Squad

I'm a little surprised about the rumoured inclusion of Adam Wharton. I think he's exceeded all expectations in a short time frame for us and would offer England something different with his distribution but I just assumed they'd look to phase him in to the squad after the Euros and favour a more combative central midfielder. I think there's very little in it when debating over Maddison/Eze and Guehi/Branthwaite to the point where I don't think it's worth much conversation. I'd personally pick the two that have been in better form to take as squad players which would be Branthwaite and Eze in these circumstances. Whilst having four players represent England from Crystal Palace is a very good return for a club of our historical reputation and shows the improvement we've made in both developing and recruiting players over the previous three years, the one player that I would have certainly taken from our ranks hasn't made the team. England are weak with natural left backs due to Chilwell and Shaw's injury issues and I would have no doubt in Tyrick Mitchell's abilities to step up against any opposition at present. -

Premier League 2023/24 Gameweek 38 - Sunday 19th May, 2024

I wouldn't say certainly. Nobody seems to know for certain if they have release clauses and how much they'll be. Or if the impending new financial rules proposed by Steve Parish will allow us to keep hold of some of our sellable assets. It could be a scenario where we lose just one sellable asset in Marc Guehi. If that happens then we have had a very good transfer window. -

What a day of football. Crawley winning at Wembley and Palace finishing in the top half for the first time in nine years. The fact we have done it by finishing above Brighton, who had been above us for 37 gameweeks, makes it when better. It's going to break my heart when this team gets torn apart in the summer. -
That playoff final was a prime example why those that don't want VAR need to be careful what they wish for. If Crewe get a penalty for that dive it's 1-1 and Crewe have all the momentum. Instead Crawley deservedly win very comfortably.

Brighton and De Zerbi to part ways
Dave replied to RandoEFC's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
How many first choices do this lot have? My first thought is he's off to Juventus. If that's the case then Brighton should go to Thiago Motta whose about as like-for-like replacement with an impressive CV you're going to get for Roberto De Zerbi. -
Josh Murphy has been winding back the years this first half. Deserved 2-0 lead.

Referees/VAR in the Premier League
Dave replied to Happy Blue's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
I can't see the proposal vote getting 14 votes to be honest. Here's a reminder of what honourary mason member Anthony Taylor gave as a penalty without the assistance of VAR this season. Be careful what you wish for. -

It wasn't meaningless for Spurs and I think that showed in the level of performance they put out. They knew there was a slim chance of still making 4th and wanted to make that happen. Regardless of what elements of the fan base felt. Can't really begrudge Daniel Levy for outpricing those fans. -
PL 2023/24 - Survival Battle

After this season I genuinely hope we don't see Burnley or Sheffield United in this league again for some time. -
'Don't believe everything you read' was the response from better connected people over the weekend, which I interpret as the club don't believe an official approach is forthcoming.

I do wonder, if I wasn't so invested in FPL with friends, how much I'd care about modern day Premier League football. It's incredibly boring seeing the same team win all the time. I might give Serie A a go at the start of next season, at least that feels like an open field for the first part of the season.
