  1. The police can't win here, they are either racist if they act and incompetent if they don't. In some areas the demographics of crime are surprising and this influences the stop and search. When someone is on trial, they are on trial for that crime no mention of previous history. History is only taken into account after a verdict and then if they use sentences longer than those stipulated they are obligated to state why. To prevent retrials or sentences being overturned. Certainly not perfect and some bias may creep in yet guidelines reduce that possibility I would hesitate to call it racist. Some problems occur if you disrespect the court, by swearing, interrupting etc, etc. That happens whether you are black or white and can increase sentences. One area of weakness in the system is the ability to hire good barristers as they are often expensive.
  2. On CHO I think they were offering this in the season we had the transfer ban and following his injury we did not know if he would recover and so could not judge anything properly and so waited to see how things panned out. He is certainly not world class, neither first XI for England or first XI Chelsea yet as a sub probably worth keeping. It was his assist for Lukaku's last goal in open play.
  3. I have/had friends in the police. One recently told me he was homosexual and said he could not have said that on the job because of the office culture. He was quite a big chap and had served in a few places. At one station a number of officers kept making snide remarks so he got a job in transport police telling me stories about things going on. Sometimes because of emergencies on the streets they would be called on to support and he said the older ones in their 50s would not want to go out because of fear of getting stabbed so close to retirement. The school gangs in London stations with knives and also raping and by the time they normally caught up with them they were often dead or dying. He was also beaten up once by travellers and hospitalised for heavy bruising after being attacked in a set up by the travellers for one of theirs being arrested. He himself had an issue with a fitness test, he had been doing a fitness test periodically for years and in his penultimate year they brought in a health questionnaire. He told them the medications he was on and was told he could not do the test. Without the test he would get demoted a year away from final salary pension. He said he had been on medication for several years and had always done and passed the test. They would not budge. Eventually he went through their union who told him it would not even get reviewed before his pension kicked in so we was safe. He is now retired on the higher pension. All of them disliked the police hierarchy.
  4. Interesting. Great football pedigree, probably the greatest Chelsea midfielder and one of the best of his generation. High Mensa rating and has a lot of experience playing under some very successful managers. At Chelsea think he wanted to play a back four yet our defensive midfield and centre backs were used to a back three and the board did not want to buy his preferred options. At Everton I would expect him to buy a couple of players, probably from the Championship that he can motivate and to provide competition to the existing players. I'll certain take more than a passing interest now.
  5. Wow, that being the case respect to Frank. He obviously believes he can make a difference.
  6. Yes it could work out that way and he is certainly good at motivating the younger players. Yet the potential downsides, if he gets this wrong and a footballing institution like Everton gets relegated his career as a manager in the top two leagues is finished, IMO. We know with the Alonso situation that sometimes he falls out with players. Tuchel has brought back Alonso and also given Kepa more confidence. If Frank can't buy players and falls out with some it could make it very difficult. For me Frank needs to manage an aspiring championship side, I don't think many premier league outfits will consider him. Best chance now is to lead a championship side to the Premier. I don't think Frank would take the Everton job either, I think he is too aware of the potential pitfalls. I think Everton need a safe pair of hands to get them through the season and rebuild perhaps with another. Perhaps this safe pair of hands might work with big Dunc (Ferguson). Who that is, I don't know.
  7. The only thing is he had a pre-season with us, he won't get that time at Everton. A risk for both parties.
  8. Can't see him resigning over a cov-id breaking party type issue, after all the Brexit attacks he weathered showed he had broad shoulders whereas Theresa May's voice broke in parliament. To get him out you need 54 Tory MPs to give a no confidence vote to trigger a new party election. There is certainly an establishment though remember they did not oust Blair despite those massive anti-war marches he won three elections. Perhaps Blair made some concessions before becoming leader. There is a theory that the Queen and Crown are different. The Crown is meant to be a clique of families running across parties prominent in various industries that can influence though how is unclear. There is also a belief in some quarters that many Crown interests were against Brexit though now glad we have got out. We had only used our veto once and that was under Cameron when Europe wanted to tax our financial transactions and lets remember, we gave up fishing, manufacturing, paid the 2nd highest membership fee and and with a massive trade imbalance to Europe and they were trying to reduce our advantage in financial transactions.
  9. @Spike You might like Paths of Glory by Kubrik. about the French Army in WW1.
  10. Haven't see a book thread so will post here. Just read the latest Jack Reacher offering, The Sentinel. Co-written with his son Andrew. Enjoyed it and a while since my last Reacher book. Good story with a number of twists and for me a good ending.
  11. Watched a bit of them against Leeds. Both Trippier and Wood were heavily involved and generally they looked up for it with Newcastle having a better energy. Felt the result could have gone either way yet a massive boost for Newcastle. Think they need another signing to help them get out and stay out of the bottom three.
  12. This is the follow up on the BBC worker from Newcastle that had the fatal brain injury following one of the vaccines, they say at the court hearing it was acknowledged the vaccine had done the damage. under 2 mins, https://odysee.com/@Adverse:c/video6242097200747251081:e
  13. I think I have made a point, in that vaccines are not safe for everyone. I would certainly trust this chap having known him for a couple of years. He is not alternative with health either first time he has ever questioned health. I used to get angina they would not even give me a test, eventually found things that would stop it. Even longer term by seeing an osteopath got a back and rib cage injury fixed and didn't suffer with that any longer. I remember going on a health lecture by one of Britain's best allergy doctors who said any new technology that shows promise won't come on to the market for 50 years. I have heard from Labour supporters a few years back that health and universities were getting funding from private businesses. I would question whether there is now interference on what can be studied and what can be tested and what cannot be tested.. For me it is all about the money however they wrap it up.
  14. I saw the chap that cuts my hair last week. Said he had been rough and down at ER twice recently because of his heart. He is mid 20's and supports West Ham. He has had 2 jabs and now wont't have the third as is convinced he has reacted to that vaccine. The hospital would not comment on the vaccine, he was not anti-vax before. Now lets recall this was an experimental vaccine under brand name MRNA, it may be sometime before we know if these chaps reacting are the canaries in the coal mines or just unlucky.
  15. Haha, certainly a consideration though France got Napoleon as a result of all their shenanigans which led to major conflict on the European continent for a decade.
  16. Britain never had the guillotine, interesting to hear about the rise of Eric Zemmour in France.
  17. It didn't come off last night yet when you look at the overall stats last night it does not look so gloomy away from home and having the highest number of matches is certainly a factor to take into account. Of course the media are always looking for the latest crisis. We had more shots and more shots on target re the BBC's match report.
  18. Taliban trying to buy rights to make De Lorean cars in Afghanistan https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/ty-delorean-claims-taliban-wants-6504928
  19. Well with Salah and Mane getting older how long before Klopp looks overseas? Everton currently are struggling and I expect some day JT will give it a go.
  20. I'm not sure they will get Boris out though think they would go for a new leader for the next election. Current front runners are seen as either Liz Truss (can't see that, too much of the old school Tory about her ) or Rishi Sunak our current Chancellor. Personally think it will be another contender like i remember I had never heard of Cameron before he became PM. What does intrigue me is how well Gina Miller's new venture will proceed, I can see her brand being attractive to some voting demographics.
  21. Here's a consideration I watch Simon Reeves BBC documentaries. He was looking at the Med and landed in particular Southern Spain where they grow a lot of food produce under plastic sheeting. All the workers were illegals from Africa and on questioning one he showed them around their living quarters that were pretty squalid. He said they occasionally get beaten with cudgels if they are too slack or just for any reason. Reeve was shocked by that and said if they could take him back to Africa would he go. ' No the shame, the shame.' Many are economic migrants, they are different from asylum seekers and the latter travelling through several Western European countries to arrive in Northern France to risk their lives on an inflatable. Very strange times we live in. Personally did not like our involvement in the war on terror yet also think wrong to abandon the Afghan interpreters.
  22. For me last season we were missing a striker, Werner was too limited, Havertz wasn't firing and Broja a little too raw. I think we will be ok next season though whether Lukaku stays is another question.
  23. My friend intervened once with queue jumping in Turkey by Germans, they were very arrogant ignored him and carried on to the front of the queue for the boat. Think some of all races are like this though until recently Europeans and Americans travelled more.
  24. Normally there is a knock on effect wonder where next will be affected by volcanic activity?
