There is no way that only Warner, Smith and Bancroft knew. Right from day 1 that was obvious to anyone with a brain. Nah I want him gone. He's had 2 tournaments, and failed at both. Line ups not even close to good enough. Sule at RB? It just boggles my mind. 
Look at how open this world cup is, we'd have had a round of 16 match against Morocco had we got things right, and then genuinely at this stage it would have been a fair chance at a historic 5th WC. Instead we got teams with mixed up midfields, directionless attacks and weird RB choices, and the less said about Neuer the better. Didn't look great for over half the goals we conceded.

For those who are interested, you should be placing bets on 'number of passes' markets on players this world cup. Fuck, make multis out of it. 
The market isn't used to games going for 9 actual minutes of play time and thus haven't adjusted yet. The team who keeps possession best get full value for their passing now and it's paying off big as the prices are based on historical data wherein games that have 5-10 minutes of stoppages only get 3-5 minutes of added time.

Midfield. This one is easy to fuck up if you overthink it, so don't fucking overthink it. Kimmich and Gundogan are very similar, so don't play them at the same time unless you're putting Gundy behind the striker for some reason. Muller and Havertz are very similar so don't play them at the same time! 
Width. Sane and Gnabry. Do not play either as the striker. 
Striker. Play the striker you picked. Literally the only 1 really.

This is the first time ever that I have watched a tournament and England have had the kind of midfield and attack where their aim as a team should be to control the ball and dictate the pace of a game. In the last few tournaments the best you had were ankle hackers in the midfield to try and break up play, protect your back 5 and play counter attacking and lots of crosses. 

Prior to that, we can argue about how great Gerrard is but at the end of the day he was famous for long passes and high risk plays, not looking after the ball, and when you have workhorses for company like Milner, Parker and Barry you're not exactly going to have 60% possession vs anyone half decent are you? 

But here, with Bellingham, Rice and Mount, Foden, Maddison ect all able to line up, and Kanes hold up play, England SHOULD be trying to express themselves on the ball. The question is will Southgate bottle it and try to play 5 at the back and a very defensive midfield set up? Because if he does ya'll are fucked imo.
