  1. Why Lockdown mode from Apple is one of the coolest security ideas ever | Ars Technica Like one of the comments says "I'd turn this on everyday". It seems like in the rush to make things faster we've inevitably opened a lot of weird doors in the cybersecurity space. This, however, is a step in the right direction and I hope the next step is being able to auto-identify sites that are poaching data and then letting the user shutdown whatever they want. It hurts marketing but its also the right thing to do.

So I went and signed up back to school again to improve my picking technique and told the instructor that I play bass so he said to come back on Monday and pick a song to play that I thought would be good. In my eternal stupidity I picked an Ozzy track and this is my weekend bass homework. Also, I don't get the reason for the chorus part being written that way but who am I to mess with genius. Note: I am just glad I didn't tell him I like Maiden more than Ozzy.
  5. I always thought that opening riff was just a guitar till I realized that dirty punk Justin was up to no good and playing it on a bass and for merry measure he adds a delay too.
  6. Behind the scenes of Waymo’s worst automated truck crash | TechCrunch What's funny in this is that someone who was actually driving a truck caused the incident. Surprised Waymo isn't using that to state that their system is far better than a human-operated truck.
  7. Great stuff if you like Classical Guitar (be warned its an hour long)

Don't mic it just USB it and then record it. I am so tempted to hook the Macbook Pro to the interface and also add something to this that isn't metal or has a rock theme now haha. @Happy Blue I woke up and finished two cups of coffee reading through that haha. Oh and watch out for those micro delays which is why I don't use USB anymore but instead plug it into an audio interface and then record and use the USB to manage the device via the computer.
  9. From the new album which imo is very good. Also helps that I love a nicely distorted bass.

I can only play about 9 of the 20 on this list. Also fuck Rush and what they were on when they wrote Tom Sawyer. I can't play that song by counting it is 100% feel.

Nice. I am very curious how it fits in with everything you have now. Sound sample s'il vous plait.

I like that pedal a lot. I liked the review for it as well. With the way tech is going I think the day isnt far where they'll sell you a little silver box with some plug points and everything else goes through your phone.

If I get a Jackson it will be a one of a kind in the guitar collection. Everything else looks classic but this would stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe I'll make a trip next month and this time just walk out with a Jackson instead of thinking about it.

This is why we don't drink around our instruments haha. I think enough pedals have found their way to the sin-bin in the early days because someone thought they could reach over for a whiskey while they were playing.

Every two years or so I'll say yeah I want a Jackson and not just any Jackson a Rhoads Jackson which is the only one I can actually stomach (sorry @Happy Blue). And thrice now I have gone into a store to try one out (p.s. this store is very very far away so I make a day trip out of it) and then I'll go there and say no matter what I am walking out of this place with that guitar. The reasons below are why I have passed on them thrice. First Time That body is very nice to look at but in practicality's sense it just doesn't work for me. I like the neck, love the form-factor but then you get that neck dive which I have some discomfort with. I tell myself I'll get over it and I say just get one and you'll make it happen. I then walk around the store and find a second-hand Telecaster and now i'm stuck. I let it go and go home with the Tele. Because its a tele and we don't get the super nice ones here very often and this is an op I can't pass up. Second Time My jazz bass's tuning peg comes off so I go into the store and they have a King V hanging in the corner. The owner tells me that its a great guitar (which guitar store owner wouldn't) and then he proceeds to tell me that he'll cut me a deal. So I say sure, go out for a coffee while they fix the peg and when I come back I think this is it I am going to get one. Only to then walk around the store again and this time I pick up a Marcus Miller Sire Bass instead. P.s. That bass is imo one of the best value for money instruments you can buy but it requires you to treat it with a lot of careful handling and it is heavy. The tone however is very nice and its actually retired my Fender Jazz. So, strike two. Third Time I was going to be teaching someone's kid how to play bass over the summer just before the pandemic so I figure I need to get an instrument he can learn on as most parents will go out and buy a guitar that will ruin the experience. I want something cheap but I also want to be able to use it later if I want to. I find a really nice Squier in another shop that is closer to home. I then see this And I think yeah its time I have f'ed around too much with this unhealthy habit of not buying these guitars and tell the guy i'll come back in two weeks to pick it up. He says its okay because no one touches these guitars here so it will be around. I get busy and three weeks pass but I go back and now the guitar is sold. I'll own one before I kick the bucket I am sure but when is the question. I keep telling myself this is the year but it just doesn't seem to happen. I also think if I got one I'd probably spend a lot more time in a different genre of music just because it lends itself very nicely to hard rock and metal. This is all my mom's fault really. When I was learning and very young the guy in the music school I went to had a Jackson in this really nice purple finish and I thought it was one of the best things I'd ever seen. I think that's where the strange love-hate comes from and why I am able to pass them up so easily instead of just saying I want one and being done with it. I could just order one online but I generally like to try what I am playing especially with electric guitars as I've found over time that buying something online isn't all its cracked up to be with these brands we dont get here so often (Fender and Ibanez excluded).

One of the best things going around is you need instrument X to sound or play a particular genre. I used to have a person I played with who refused to play anything but a Fender P Bass and he literally had something bad to say about anything out there. One day we went into a jam and someone said hey man listen to my brother playing Another One Bites the Dust and he instantly said that bass sounds so good it can only be a FenderP and my friend starts giggling and say nope that's a Yamaha. It didn't even take a second for him to change his opinion and find flaws in the bass playing post that. I quite like the SMG videos and more so for the very reason you like them, straight, to the point and no messing about with the consumer. If it does X it will do X and that's it, backed up with a bit of science to reinforce the fact. I always feel like I missed an opportunity to get a real chugging machine and stayed on the more classic rock path but after watching that gentleman in the demo playing all that stuff on what conceivably could end up being an Ibanez purchase for me has made me think I might just give it a go again ... Or a Jackson, I have a silly love-hate relationship with those guitars and why I like them is something I have never been able to explain.

Think a whole section of the guitar amp world went quiet after that video came out.
