Better as in would beat them in a CL/EL play off... probably, but playing for a Premier League mid table club is at least as demanding as playing for one of Portugal's top 3, because in the PL you face tougher opposition most weekends. The rhythm is also higher in the PL.

I don't disagree with any of this, but the one thing you missed was that the mid table to relegation sides aren't going to be full of stars. Sure you may have some. Shaqiri on Stoke for example (not sure how he's been but you get the point), Payet on West Ham when he was still there, then you'll have other players who can make an impact to the team but probably won't be able to hurt the stronger teams much. Andre Carillo can be seen in that category. He's not at the level for a top club as we can both agree, but he's more than good enough to get in a team like Newcastle or Watford.

You've got to be a hard worker at the bottom clubs. Most games you play the opponent dominates. You've got to be disciplined as a unit and can't carry anyone.

This was our problem with both relegations, we had players who saw themselves as too good for that part of the league table, they didn't have the attitude or the know-how.

Ciaran Clark looked abysmal everywhere but was one of our players of the year last year. Not the same leve I know but players can improve. Manquillo has obviously shown something when he was younger to get the reputation he had a few years back. He is only 23 so plenty time to improve. As a back up option I don't think he's a big risk.

The new flag some fans have paid for that is causing controversy

Apparently there is also a pro-Corbyn one being made.

Nothing wrong with those two things. More of it, please.

Was at the Rafa Q and A tonight. Such an honest and funny bloke. Said he wasn't happy in January and wasn't happy at the start of the Summer either, pretty much admitted he was weighing up his options but wants to stay and is 100% committed. Still can't believe we have a manager of his stature after years of charlatans and window lickers.

I heard that he basically said we financially can't compete with the likes of Stoke City and will have to develop players ourselves.

Merino joins on loan with obligatory £6m purchase if he plays a certain amount of games.

Samaris deal dead now.

I don't know anything about him but it's nice to see faces coming through the door.

Though if he happens to disappear off the face of the earth when he's getting close to that amount of games then we know why :D
