ScoRoss
Given time and patience, something not afforded to most Fiorentina managers recently, I can see him being a success. But a change in the makeup of Fiorentina's squad is wholely needed. In a time where Italian clubs are turning to youth more and more, Fiorentina are still bringing in older players for short-term fixes. Gattuso has shown he isn't afraid of playing young players and giving them opportunities, and not only giving them opportunities but helping them improve. The number of times Fiorentina have brought in a player, early in their career and then almost immediately given up on them is incredible. And then wasting away their asset by sending them out on loan for years at a time. Meanwhile, only last summer they brought in Bonaventura, Valero and Callejon. All players already well into their 30s and not much of a future at the club. And for all of it, they ended up 13th. It's not like these players were going to make a difference about possibly making Europe or not. Gattuso has shown faith in younger players and has helped improve a fractured squad at Milan. They need to hold onto Castrovilli and Vlahović this summer and give the team something to build around. Gattuso improved the defence at Milan and Napoli during his time, given he can do the same at Fiorentina they do have players that can make something happen at the other end of the pitch. Subscriber Coma+ Posted May 26, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted May 26, 2021 Fiorentina have been in a funk for several years now and it's depressing to watch. I hope he can bring the spark that he did at Milan and Napoli and fire up the Viola properly. Would love to see them pushing the top 6 again. Both have a track record. The appointment was very quick after his departure from Napoli and you have to wonder if they even discussed issues like this prior to his appointment. Whether they even have an overall plan for the club and what their targets are on the field and how they plan to achieve them. Or just seen Gattuso, thought it was a good idea to get him in and figure it all out later. Commisso is still very new to running a team at this level, and it looks like his inexperience might, once again, set them back. At least with Pallotta at Roma, he tried bringing in experienced directors and general managers to run the team (but was criticized for being an absent owner). Commisso doesn't seem to realise how difficult a job he has to do at Fiorentina. For Gattuso (unlike Conte at Inter recently) when he walked away from Milan, he walked away without wanting anymore money even though he had a year left on his contract. It wouldn't surprise me if he could easily walk away again.
