Again, very different designs at play. Fundamental differences which could more or less determine the competitive order for the whole year, and have implications into 2023. This isn't going to be like 2009 where teams are going to jump from Q2 to competing for wins by bolting a double diffuser or some other trick part on their cars.

Indeed. Just look at the differences of these fronts.

Looks like Ferrari went very different compared to anyone else so far, very 90's. And I really hope they nailed it.

To honour their partnership with BWT, they'll run this livery in the first two races.

I quite like the actual car, not convinced it'll look amazing on a racetrack but in the studio, yeah, I'll ship that.

I really don't like the full pink livery for the opening races. It's a piss take how close it is to a different team's car from just over a year earlier.

A few hot takes and rumours I've seen floating around during this morning's testing session.

Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren have exchanged the fastest times of the session. Trackside journalists commenting that Verstappen looks very smooth in the Red Bull, Russell in the Mercedes not fully planted but able to corner very well, direction change in the McLaren very good and Leclerc among the most confident attacking turns 7-8.

The Haas described as the "most developed" car in the paddock, doesn't mean it's the fastest though.

Mercedes apparently believe that Red Bull/Alpha Tauri have found some sort of loophole in the regulations, no detail on exactly what part of the car.

Consensus, apparently, is that Red Bull and Mercedes have turned up with the most 'impressive' designs.

Surprisingly, very little mention of any of the other midfield teams. The likes of Aston Martin and Alpine will be disappointed if they can't take this opportunity to get ahead of one of the 'big four' teams for a year or two.

Conclusions drawn from testing are to be taken with a pinch of salt, but the data and knowledge available to observers nowadays that you can still leave with a strong idea of the competitive order. Last year, the competitive order was more or less known following pre-season testing with a couple of slight exceptions (Alpine and Alfa Romeo looked better than they turned out to be). At this point, very early days, it sounds like we might get a pretty conventional pecking order at the start of the year. But this picture will shift with every session of testing that passes. One session down, eleven still to go.

Can testing be watched live on any channel?

No but if you go on YouTube and look up WTF1 and TheRace, they're doing some live streaming discussing photos, timings and rumours coming from testing.

The second test in Bahrain is televised.

Look out for the quotes from the drivers after each day of testing. If you know how to read between the lines, they can be quite telling.

Haas probably the "losers" of the day if anyone is. While Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull all clear 100+ laps, Mazepin's morning run was disrupted by a cooling leak and Schumacher has done just 8 laps.
