Hopefully a sign of things to come! :D Still over 5 hours left...

Why do you hate Toyota so much?

Safety car mixed up things quite nicely in the GTE Pro; Porsche 91 has two Fords right behind it, this is going to be fun

Yep, gonna watch Ford #68 again.

Haha, I don't really hate Toyota... but the way FIA/ACO/Toyota created the hype by marketing this as pretty much 24 Hours of Alonso has been really annoying in the last weeks. That, and I also like Rebellion and want them to win.

@nudge you'll  need to explain the appeal of this to me. What sort of race with a 2 minute gap between 1st and 2nd with 3rd place 11 laps behind has any excitement to it? Looks like you just wait for an entire day to see which guys crash or break down.

Personally, I'm not a fan of LMP1 in general, but this year paints a bad picture as after Porsche left, Toyota are the only manufacturer left and faces no competition from the privateers, so you're right that the class got little to no appeal. However, in previous years the race in all classes was decided in final laps, so there used to be plenty of excitement. There are new LMP1 regulations approved for 2020, which will see new kind of prototypes based on hypercars/concept cars coming in and more manufacturers returning, so this is more or less a transitional phase now.

At any case, my primary interest is GT racing, and even if this year's race has been less dramatic than last year so far, it's still been very tight and competitive; after 18 hours of racing, 11 cars were  still on the same lap with just seconds between them. The leading Porsche has been one lap ahead for a while due to safety cars, but other than that, there has been a close battle for the most of the field.

Also in general, so many things can happen at any point during those 24 hours, there's usually so much drama, haha.

The winners:

LMP1: #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing - Alonso, Buemi, Nakajima

LMP2: #26 G-DRIVE RACING - Rusinov, Pizzitola, Vergne

GT Pro: #92 PORSCHE GT TEAM - Christensen, Estre, Vanthoor

GT Am: #77 DEMPSEY - PROTON RACING - Andlauer, Cambell, Ried

Congratulations to everyone! Toyota, even if lacking any opposition, finally manage to beat themselves and the track to get the overall victory! Lovely night driving stints by Nakajima and Alonso saw them decrease the gap of the leading sister car and later overtake them, no technical issues, impressive reliability after all these years of breaking down. Also, it's good to see Rebellion on the podium at last too, good job with the car considering how they finished so far ahead  of other privateers in LMP1.

A brilliant 1-2 win for Porsche in GTE Pro, very happy with it, and it's even better that it's the cars with those legendary liveries that took it! The Pink Pig managed to hold the lead for about 18 hours, extremely clean racing, no mistakes, great stuff :D Rothmans livery car in second, just as legendary, and this is a great tribute to both the 917 and 956/962 Le Mans winning Porsches of the 70s and 80s... Very fitting for the 70th anniversary of the marque as well, love it!

Also very happy for Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche winning their class, well deserved!

This year's race won't go into the history books as one of the classics, but it still was good entertainment, glad to have watched it (almost all of it, haha) and am looking forward to next year already!

Meanwhile, 60 days to go until the next round at Silverstone :D

Someone had this on a t-shirt at the TT the other week, it appeared on reddit today.

The track around the outside is the Snaefell Mountain Course, home of the Isle of Man's very own TT races, with dozens of other world renowned race tracks laid out inside it. Really puts into perspective how Le Mans and the Nordschleife pale in comparison to a real race track like the TT circuit.

@Tommy have you watched the F3 first race at Spa today? What a mad one, so many incidents! Floersch finished P12, a good result for her second race. Also a fantastic drive from Mick, going from P17 to P5! He finally got a pole for the second race today, too!

No, I missed it :( Nice to hear about Sophia and Mick though. Sophia seems to be adapting fast, considering how many tests, practices, qualies and races the other drivers have under their belt already.
