Michael
Morocco could only manage to draw with Congo 1-1. Achraf Hakimi gave Morocco an early lead in the 6th minute, as he volleyed a cross from a corner into the back of the net. However Congo managed to equalise, when Stuttgart's Silas calmly slotted a low cross home, after he found himself some space in the penalty area. Morocco 1-1 Congo Zambia and Tanzania also drew 1-1, as Msuva gave Tanzania an early lead in the 11th minute, only for Zambia to equalise very late in the 88th minute of the match through Patson Daka. But this draw, means that Morocco and Congo still remain ahead of Zambia and Tanzania in the group/ Zambia 1-1 Tanzania In the other match of the day, South Africa thrashed their neighbours Namibia 4-0. Tau gave the South Africans an early lead through a goal from a penalty in the 14th minute. Then two very well taken goals by Zwane and then a 4th goal by Maseko completed the scoring. After getting a shock win in their opening match against Tunisia, Namibia were brought back down to earth by the South Africans in this match, as they were really outclassed. Goku de la Boca
Looks like I was right and wrong at the same time. There are still a lot of low scoring draws which is the norm for AFCON but I was right about the quality looking much, much better than past editions. Michael
Equatorial Guinea destroying the hosts Ivory Coast 4-0, has to be the shock of the tournament so far. Equatorial Guinea ended up top of the group, ahead of even Nigeria on goal difference. Nigeria also managed to win 1-0 in their match against Guinea-Bissau, thanks to an own goal. Administrator Stan Posted January 22 Author Administrator Share Posted January 22 Just seen Mozambique scored two stoppage-time goals vs Ghana. Most likely means Ghana are out unless unlikely results go their way in the next couple of days. Don't think anyone had Cape Verde topping their group either! Just equalised to make it 2-2 in their game as well.

Moderator Tommy Posted January 23 Moderator Share Posted January 23 I'm just checking results every now and then, and I'm really surprised to see teams like Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea topping their groups. And not even easy groups, name-wise. Ghana only 3rd in Cap Verde's group, Equatorial Guinea ahead of Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire.

Michael
Nigeria faced the hosts the Ivory Coast in the final of the African Cup of Nations. Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the lead in the first half with a brave headed goal. But the Ivory Coast equalised in the 2nd half, with a powerful Franck Kessie headed goal aimed at the near post. The Nigerian keeper got a hand to Kessie's header, but he couldn't stop it from going into the net. Sebastian Haller would then score the Ivory Coast's 2nd goal, as he cleverly flicked Adingra's cross with his right foot into the far corner of the Nigerian net. Haller's goal was a superb end to the match as the Ivory Coast would hold on to win the African Cup of Nations final and the whole competition.
