Ha, we're at war between the 2 press'. Not sure if you've heard of Martin Liberman, but he's talking and talking and talking to put pressure. One of the things he's said is "Peru has already won". I hope the players aren't watching the news or paying attention to those comments.

Yeah, I know him.  He used to have a Tuesday night slot on José Ramón de la Morena's 'El Largero' when he was on Cadena SER.  But when De La Morena moved to OndaCero, they've got some other guy reporting on everything Latin América and its football.

I know that latin based football journalism is very euphoric and war mongering because the Spanish sports press, Portuguese and Italian is very similar.  But when things go wrong they're made to eat their words and worst of all it affects the side in question.

It's odd to see Ricardo Gareca against Argentina. If Peru scores will he celebrate?

He will. I'm sure if it. He's super profesional.

I'm not one who often blames the referee for games lost, but I am a bit worried that he's going to be against us. I don't believe in "buying the game" bollocks. However I'm still worried about the referee due to the crowd and some of Infantino's comments.

I´d worry more about how the players will behave. Most haven´t experienced anything similar and if Argentina scores early it could be problematic, a team not used to that kind of match, atmosphere and itensity can crumble. A bit like what happened to Jorge Wilstermann recently. Anyway, good luck. Vamos, Perú!

Ditching 3 at the back?

Romero

Mercado - Otamendi - Mascherano - Acuña

Biglia - Banega

Di Maria - Messi - Gomez

Benedetto

Appears so and its a great decision from Sampaoli. I know Farfan isn't as good as Carrillo these days, but Farfan vs Di Maria is still going to give Jefferson a field day.

I think its better to play 4 which worked well for Chile in the 2015 Copa America. Against Ecuador I also wouldn't play 3 due to the pace that Antonio Valencia possesses.

You can't compare us to Wilstermann though. Wilstermann went away most of their games to defend and then put 3 up front against River Plate away. That was tactical suicide. We are also much, much better than Wilstermann. I wouldn't say we aren't used to this intensity, Paolo Guerrero for sure who has played there vs Boca with Corinthians before, but the others have played in a Peruvian league final which is always a fiery atmosphere. Its nothing like La Bombonera but its still scary due to the pressure. The only 2 players who may not be used to it are Aldo Corzo and Renato Tapia.

I'm hoping for the best today, as I said I do genuinely believe we can win tonight. Argentina are Argentina at the end of the day though. I can never be too confident in this sort of match. As I said, I hope for the best. I have a feeling Paolo Guerrero will have a field day against those 2 center backs.

I think brazilian press is a bit different. Most people who don´t know South America don´t understand us. Brazil is almost isolated from the rest of the continent. So we´re more neutral to our neighbors, no country in Sotuh America hates us like Chile or Argentina are hated for example. Perhaps it´s due to the size of the country and the language, I don´t know, but when things go wrong the focus in ourselves, we generally attack each other and mock our own players not other sides.

Well... I hate you lot for not speaking Spanish and make it an all latino continent

(Suriname and Guyana don't count)

I agree that you have a good side and are much better than Wilstermann, but on the other side the stakes are much higher. How many years has it been? 36? I can only imagine the pressure those players are carrying, to them it´s a World Cup final.

I really like Perú, you know, I grew up watching old games and I was always impressed by that side led by Cubillas and Chumpitaz. I hope you smash the argies. :)

How old are you mate?

Ha, I actually met Chumpitaz on tuesday. Lovely guy, and we talked about the whole world cup situation as well as his era.

The stakes are high but I have confidence they'll handle it well. We had the same situation in 1997 and we lost 4-0 to Chile with Solano as player and Oblitas as manager, both who are part of the NT setup. They've made it clear to the squad. Now the end product needs to be getting the result, which won't be easy but we are well capable of it.

Its a world cup final to us. I don't think it takes away that its a world cup final for them as well. They went into these qualifiers with the expectation of winning the World Cup in 2018. They might not even qualify haha.

I hope so too my friend. We need to make history. I hope we do it.

haha But we´re latino as well, we´re just not hispanic. Long live to the one and only true iberian crown: the portuguese! xD

(I´m 29, but when I was like 10 all I did was play football and also watch live and from the past, including the 1970 matches.)

I can't disagree with that first sentence. The spanish and their impossible to understand accents can stay in Europe. In a way, has me glad that Venezuela is in crisis. No Spaniards will immigrate there anymore! xD (I'm obviously not being serious)

Ah ok fair enough. Sounds like the typical Brazilian kid!

Did Bolivia just change their manager AGAIN? Argentina have had 3 manager changes this cycle... Bolivia have had 4 or 5 xD

Baldivieso, Hoyos, Soria, and now this Illanes. What a joke of a federation.

Said it before and will say it again. He will be world class and right now is the second best U20 goalkeeper behind Donnarumma. Close second too.
