Michael Posted June 7 Posted June 7 England will play Iceland at Wembley in their last friendly match before Euro 2024. England who beat Bosnia 3-0 at St James' Park a few days ago, will be hoping for a repeat performance and another win in their final warm-up match. It will be interesting to see who plays today and how England perform. Quote
Michael Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Jon Dagur porsteinsson is the player who has given Iceland a shock lead against England at Wembley. England 0-1 Iceland Quote
Michael Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 (edited) England have had a lot of possession but they are just not creative enough so far. Edited June 7 by Michael Quote
Michael Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 (edited) England's Foden hasn't been playing to his usual high standards today. Edited June 7 by Michael Quote
Michael Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Ramsdale really shouldn't of gotten beaten at his near post for Iceland's goal. That will go down as a mistake by him. But Kane should have really equalised with that close range effort he had, after he got on the end of Palmer's delivery. Kane usually buries those chances. Quote
Danny Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Can’t play Mainoo against teams that sit deep. He’s better in open play when teams press, not got the passing ability to break midfields down and then we rely too much on Foden who don’t forget plays in front of Rodri and KdB for City. Quote
6666 Posted June 7 Posted June 7 One day Foden will play well for England. Hopefully that day comes soon. Quote
Danny Posted June 7 Posted June 7 A match people will read too much into. 2nd of two games used to give players minutes, try out different positions and not necessarily play to our strengths. Let the drama ensue Quote
Michael Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Iceland are a tough team and no pushovers as they proved, but England should be beating them. Fair enough it's a friendly and the manager was trying out tactics, but Southgate must have us performing to the levels we are capable of performing at the Euros. There is so much talent going forward in this England team, it's only the defence that's really a bit of an issue. Pickford also has to start, okay he is not an elite keeper, but he is still top class and very consistent for England. Ramsdale shouldn't start for us, he is more mistake prone as we saw again today. They finished 7 points behind Luxembourg. Southgate is proof of the saying it's better to be lucky than good. He is lucky to have the job and will somehow luck his way into a semi Quote

Anyone who understands football, will have seen yesterday the level that Iceland are at. They can play football and are no pushovers, they have several dangerous players. But yes, England should always be beating them still. But it was a friendly and friendlies don't really mean much, more a learning lesson more than anything else. Southgate will have hopefully learnt a lot more about his players and how to play from yesterday's match. Quote
Subscriber Dan+ Posted June 8 Subscriber Posted June 8 It's a terrible result. Embarrassing and can't be dressed up as anything other than that. Lets just hope it serves as a wake up call. I generally trust England under Southgate to navigate group stages. He's been largely flawless in them. It's beating anybody tricky that I never trust him with. Quote
