It feels like one of two things given there current position:

- Somebody significantly better has said they'll take the job.

- It's a reaction to losing to Maresca.

I hope for the Leicester fans it's not the latter.

A polite reminder that Leicester City are sitting in 16th with a Championship squad.

We're playing shit. It's not just about the position but the direction we're heading. So the polite reminder doesn't really have any meaning :D

Newly-promoted Leicester having higher standards than million year Premier League mainstays Everton. Numb to it now.

I'm surprised our board have acted in this way in all honesty. They have Rodgers til March despite the downward trajectory we were on. Although he had lots of credit in the bank. Cooper has nothing. And was giving us nothing.

You can tell they've been horrendous by the way their fans speak about him. I genuinely think they just got him to fill the dugout for a year expecting that they'd get a hefty points deduction this season anyway which would rob them of a realistic chance of fighting for survival anyway.

They've won 2 games in 12 and averaging less than a point per game. One of those was a freak turnaround after Southampton got a red card at 2-0 up and capitulated. They've had tricky fixtures but they've looked more and more like they're going down.

I honestly think Leicester have just realised actually there's a chance they could pull this off and stay up now that they got their PSR case thrown out and they think someone other than Cooper is a better bet to achieve that. Personally I think this is horrible news for us as a potential relegation rival because I see Cooper as a really poor manager.

Even worse if they take a good manager off the market because I'm praying that our new owners sack Dyche off and bring someone in whose management doesn't make my eyes bleed on a weekly basis.

Assuming this was the case, why would they wait until the first game after the international break to pull the trigger?

Rectifying their own fuck up, but that in fairness is progress from 2023.

Sounds a funny thing to say but the only positive were the results not being terrible. Bad, but not that bad. The performances were absolutely horrendous. Directionless. Clueless. We're 16th but we were going to go down for sure if he stayed. We're lucky to have as many points as we do.

Potter or Van Nistelrooy is who I see us going for.

Twice in a row we've done this.

Yeah the timing is weird in terms of the fixture pile up but maybe they decided to get Chelsea out of the way and then let the new manager bounce have a run at Brentford and West Ham?

I don't know though. Leicester aren't exactly well run all of the time so your reasoning could well be true but even if the reasoning is strange I think the decision is a good one.

I hope you go for Van Nistelrooy because it's weird how he's never been linked with any of these jobs until he won a couple of games as an interim for Man Utd. Feels like a very trap door flavour of the month manager to go for.

I'd like us to go out and get Potter to be honest. People will say you can't go from Dyche to Potter and I'd be wary of him being too stubborn and expecting our players to do things that aren't realistic but I do think he could get a decent tune out of our squad, especially if we could make a couple of signings in January.

Posted

I'd be surprised if Potter takes either the Leicester or Everton jobs to be honest. He's been linked with the likes of England and Man United as well as the likes of Milan and Roma. He's either happy collecting the Chelsea wage or has a high opinion of himself.

I think somebody like West Ham is his level and with Lopetegui's start to the season I reckon he'll wait a little longer to see if there's a development there.

David Moyes is the first manager I thought, which I think will be a good appointment. But i imagine he'll want a reassurance he can significantly improve the squad in January.

Other than that I think Corberan or Carrick would be worth the compensation but fans may feel a Championship manager is not a progressive step.

Given that RVN has apparently showed interest in the Coventry job, I guess this is a decision that was made in order to go for him.

Cooper has been absolutely shit though, he was an awful appointment to begin with to be honest and it's crazy how quickly the fans turned on him.

Just hope they go on better and hire some proper weapon to replace him, Garth Crooks or something.

Moyes is a decent choice but i can't see him wanting a short contract.

Potter was linked with us in summer and was apparently very close to signing. But there were discrepancies about compensation so I presume Cooper was the obvious cheaper choice instead.

If we get Corberan I'd be disappointed. His form at WBA has dropped massively and they've been disgusting at home this season. It's not worth sacking Cooper for which sounds odd.

I'd love for us to look abroad but it's not what Top does. He's too safe and will be advised by the idiot that is Rudkin. Guy doesn't know his arse from his elbow so my first thought is that this next appointment will be just as boring. Ideally, if we are going to be the ambitious types, we need to go for someone like Terzic, Kovac, Sergio Conceicao, Fischer.

Knowing our board, they'll settle for Big Sam.

I think Moyes is a decent manager and it would be hard to turn our noses up, but I don't think we have a squad to play his football at all. Moyes teams rely a lot on physicality and that's a big weakness for us.

Potter probably makes the most sense. I've a feeling we'll have this done quite soon.

I think it is a good decision,  the guy is well out of his league in the premier league.   I would agree with those pushing Ruud Van Nistelrooy,   good job to test his skill.    Leicester is a nice club with a lot of potential.

Wanted to do a long post but I've been in Moldova for the weekend. Don't ask. Me and my mates have a screw loose. It's very cheap, I'll give it that.

I think the biggest positive about it for me is that for the first time in literally years I feel like the owner seems like he cares. He's got pretty much unconditional support from the majority of our fanbase which I think is very dangerous given he's really not been good enough in recent years. He has struck me as somebody who inherited a position he isn't really built for but one that the fans should be demanding more from.

Him having concerns about the appointment in the first place and then taking action against the opinion of many of the mainstream is far more like it for me. He has nowhere near convinced me, but this is a step forward from what happened two seasons ago. This is a sign that he may be learning some lessons.

I really hope this makes him reconsider the seeming unconditional faith he has in Jon Rudkin. I've made the point many a time how bad I think he is and this season is just the latest car crash against his name. Poor signings and allocation of funds and a managerial appointment that ended up winning just two league games for us - the worst since Paulo Sousa in 2010. He absolutely has to go. Maybe there's a chance he is no longer as bulletproof as I fear he is.

So for Cooper himself.

I wasn't impressed with the appointment at the time. There was a part of me during the 2022/23 calamity that was envious of the buy-in and the camaraderie that seemed to surround him and his Forest side. At the end of the day he ended a 23 year run outside of the top flight for them against the odds and then kept them in the division. That is on paper a very good job. You can't really argue against this. I would however have argued that they were ridiculously fortunate - extremely lucky in the playoff final in one of the most dreadfully refereed games I've ever seen, borderline suspect. They then seemed to have this ridiculous knack of scraping 1-0 wins with the opposition missing a hatful of chances. They weren't a particularly solid team. They were data outliers.

Well to be fair, he seemed to be achieving similar at Leicester this season. Every single metric, the eye test, the shot counts etc... point you to a comfortable bottom three team. Yet we aren't there. It's quite peculiar how he's managed this.

There was absolutely no doubt in my mind though that he was taking us down. I just don't think it's sustainable to give away the chances we do every week and to score at the rate we were scoring relative to how little we were actually creating, even if I do think we have some decent attackers in the squad.

I think he'd been awfully lucky in all honesty. I don't think there was a single one of the six losses that you could say was harsh on us. We were meek against Fulham and Villa. Absolutely hammered at Arsenal with our goalkeeper getting man of the match in a game we still conceded 4 times in. Hammered at home by Forest, hammered by a massively out of sorts Manchester United, largely hammered by Chelsea where once again we seemed to pick up a very flattering score. Yet of the points we did get I think we win that Bournemouth game on the balance of play probably 1 in 10 times. The Southampton away game was a huge fluke - we gave away a nailed on penalty at 2-1 down which would've probably resulted in a loss, only for it to not be given, for them to do the same to us, give away a red card and then blow it in injury time. If Southampton had beaten us that day, we'd be 19th and level on points with them. The margins are extremely fine.

I think you could argue we were very fortunate to draw with Tottenham and Ipswich as well. This sounds like I have an agenda against the bloke, but I really wasn't impressed and it's pretty clear from the reaction of the players, the Copenhagen video, that they weren't either. It was a terrible appointment, completely lazy and we've committed a three year contract to pull the plug just 12 games in. This is a badly functioning club and I want serious action to be taken to address this. We've spent a lot of money this season as well - largely on players who aren't even guaranteed starters. It's a total shambles, again.

I don't hate the bloke. Even with the Forest link I've always thought he's seemed OK - though I increasingly think he's a massive blagger and his whinging about referees is just deflection from his own inadequacies.

Long post this and I'll end it shortly but as for who next. It sounds like Potter has said no for a third time. We really cannot ever talk to this bloke again - he doesn't fancy it and we're chasing after him like he's some sort of galactico. Moyes I've stated I think is a decent manager but a bad fit. The name I can see it being is Van Nistelrooy. I'm a bit concerned that it's all a bit flavour of the month with him hammering us twice in his four games in charge at Manchester United. But at the same time I think he's got a point to prove, he's got quite a high upside as a manager and I think he'd invigorate the fanbase in a way that someone like Cooper just simply never could. He'd command respect, he's got more experience in management than people realise and he's not got a terrible track record either. I think it would be a gamble, but so was Maresca and that did pay off.

I'd personally quite like Conceicao, I do actually think he'd come here too, but I don't think we'll be interested - there are whispers that our hierarchy didn't like some of Cooper's behaviour and confrontation (which is a shame - I love a bit of it myself, I can't lie) and Conceicao is another level altogether in this regard.

Plenty calling Leicester out for this which I can't lie - I've missed. I've always felt more into it when we're getting a bit of an earful for doing "the wrong thing". This is the first time in years that I've felt any sort of ambition from the club beyond Enzo Maresca's own vision, but it's a few bricks when we need a whole estate building. There's a long way to go for me. If Top sacks Rudkin next then I'll start to buy into him again.

Starting to look like Leicester hadn't done their succession planning here because they haven't appointed anyone yet and there isn't a name doing the rounds to the extent it's the worst kept secret in football or anything.

Bizarre and amateur-ish really. If they've known throughout the international break that a (highly probable) defeat to Chelsea was going to be enough for them to pull the plug then they should have the replacement pretty much done.

Plays into what @Dave said earlier about the timing being odd. I gave them the benefit of the doubt initially but it doesn't look like someone they wanted has suddenly come available and if they have approached Potter and he's said no then they should have known that weeks ago really.
