The All Star Game's nothing more than an exhibition match anyway. God knows football in America needs more casual fans, so if you can do something like this to make it more fun for that type of viewer, why not? It's not like he was busy.

Because Americans don't take the sport seriously and never will if this happens.

Americans don't take any All-Star game seriously and it doesn't affect any other sport. They do the exact same thing in the MLB All-Star Game.

And people make fun of those events as wastes of time, imagine how they feel about a sport they don't care about.

They think it's a waste of time like the others? The silliness of All-Star Games must be ingrained in the American psyche by now.

Most people I know don't watch it and are usually annoyed the season is interrupted.

Expecting this to be regular thing within 10 years. At least with coaches/managers if not with players. They already do it in non-league football.

Happens in cricket in T20 matches (used to be more regular but not seen it as often recently).

Yes - this was pretty dumb, BUT it was a meaningless game. Science will tell you that focusing on doing your job as an athlete is impaired if you are also having to doing other things like focused listening/conversations.

They also did this in the MLB All-Star game by putting mics on the outfielders, and asking them questions like how's it feel to be an all-star..blah, blah, blah, but I remember Matt Kemp during the All-Star game said live that it was distracting and that there was no way he was going to keep it in his ear while at bat.

I think it's an all-star game, and one that only works if there is a position where absolute concentration isn't needed 100% of the time.
