They're not as bad as Leyton Orient but they are a complete shambles. I expect them to finish around mid-table before finally taking the slide to non league.

Both as bad as each other for the simple fact they are both run by total and utter wankers.

I remember the days when they had Dion Dublin upfront. Now they are in league two and Dion Dublin hosts homes under the hammer.

:42_confused:

Dion Dublin has got the better deal...

They've gone about it all the wrong way in League One. They had sellable assets in Cyrus Christie and Callum Wilson. Instead of looking for more sellable assets they relied on loan deals constantly and without the transfer fees are now struggling. Mess of a club and I can't see it improving until Suso walks.

Total car crash of a club. Bad decision after bad decision and a growing case of apathy amongst the fans. They've been in a vicious cycle for years. A club so bled of anything positive that they celebrated beating Oxford in the JPT final like it was a major honour.

The Ricoh Arena has been a total disaster. Located awfully, half way between Coventry and Nuneaton, by the M6, absolutely nothing decent around it other than a casino (is that really what your matchday is about?), a train line that runs by it that went for years without a station and once it finally got one, they couldn't even use it.

It's a bit of a less extreme, but slower burning Darlington situation. It's a complete shambles that a city the size of Coventry is represented by that. It could easily stage a upper Championship / lower Premier League size club. Fairy in boots was spot on. That's a big city that's falling to glory hunters.

It's mental to think less than 10 years ago we were neck and neck with these, fighting to stay in the Championship, a battle they won and we lost. What's happened since for both clubs is scarcely believable.

I used to have a real disliking of Coventry when I was growing up but they're so much of a mess that it's hard to even poke fun at them anymore. They're like the alcoholic brother who cannot recover.

That cannot be easy to look at for their fans. Even despite Tigers being probably the biggest rugby union club in the country, they've still never had our level of fanbase. Coventry is actually becoming a rugby town. Fucking hell.

Wasps aren't even Coventry's team. They were from London and somehow came to the conclusion the city would be the ideal destination to relocate to, probably to try and steal some light from the Leicester Tigers. When the RICOH was built they weren't included in the plans and had to build their own stadium at Butts Park. They can't expand it due to the area it's in and their lack of attention and all Wasps have done is place them in further jeopardy.

They're pretty much in the same amount of shit as the Sky Blues only the football team is going to sink and sink.

Leicester City should have always had a relatively massive fanbase, irrespective of the rugby. An entire city and county to itself, no immediate rivals. Coventry does lose out to Villa for quite a lot of supporters. Coventry City are a sleeping giant (relatively) and it's a disgrace that they're being run into the ground in this way.

I may be wildly wrong, but hasn't there been talk of Coventry City moving to the Butts Park Arena when the Ricoh lease runs out in a year or two? What a fucking horrible mess that club is in.

As far as the local club goes, I'm sure there was some understanding that the rugby clubs would play on different days. Although, that's proving largely irrelevant - Wasps are always going to have the pull over some semi-pros.

I have always maintained this as an argument as why we should expand.

What on earth were they thinking leaving Highfield Road. Seriously, what was going through their heads? That wasn't even a bad ground.

Wasps have picked up support from the West Midlands now. I know various people from North Brum/Warwickshire who pop down the M6 for the odd game. It's fucked teams like the Tigers & Worcester in the arse. There's talk of a Wasp's league franchise to, Coventry won't play there again after next season

All that talk of Wasps effectively kicking them out of the Ricoh reminded me that they spent a season decamped 30 miles down the road in Northampton playing home matches.

I've actually done uni work revolving around the Ricoh and the utter fucking hash that's been made of it from start to finish. Every aspect of it couldn't have gone much worse if they'd tried. I feel so sorry for Coventry City fans, all this going on and the end doesn't even seem in sight.

The Butts Park Arena only has one stand. They used to have two but one was taken down for breaching health and safety requirements a few years back. From what I've heard in recent times Coventry were considering relocating to a brand new stadium closer to the city centre until SISU reigned them back in. For a short while there was news that SISU were set to look for potential buyers of the club. It'd be more likely for Coventry to have to relocate to somewhere like Sixfields again than go there but if it comes to it it's an option. The problem with Butts Park is also its location. It might be close to the city centre but to one side there is a main road and to the other buildings facing a turn in the large road. Another side has the stand on and already expands quite far back but is restricted from further expansion by more buildings still and the other directly faces a housing estate. There's no room for development and if they did go there it would have to be temporary.

Don't get me wrong the RICOH is big. Unlike many other stadiums there are many offices, a big casino, masses and masses of corridor not to mention an exhibition hall that until recently was owned by JLR. They have mini-venues there too which can seat nearly a thousand people. There's even an actual hotel there. It's a great place but an absolute waste. As @Dan noted there's been a train station there since it opened last decade but it only recently came into use with very few points of access. It's planned to become operational soon but only to supply the shopping arena nearby with more customers.

Those who have seen the stadium recently will note that the old place where the Coventry City crest used to be has been replaced by one for Wasps. Wasps now own the RICOH and can kick the football team out whenever they want. It's a shame but its the truth. Rumour has it the Wasps are looking to get rid of the Sky Blues when the chance comes. The only other option close by which would in all honesty be difficult to incorporate without messing around with fixtures would be Liberty Way. It's the closest stadium to the RICOH which is designed to hold more than a thousand people. It's fairly accessible but would be a longer trek for the Coventry faithful especiallly given how conjested things can become. I don't believe it would be up to the Football League's regulations and definetely isn't an all-seater. It's still better than nothing should the inevitable eviction be handed to them in the near future.

  • 1 month later...

SISU have turned down a third offer from an unnamed associate to buy the club. Even worse is rumours are starting to emerge in the area that the Wasps are planning to starting moving towards kicking them out of the RICOH when they can, ultimately leaving the Sky Blues without a home. They could be homeless by the start of next season.
