  1. We have a winner! Everyone was able to pick a team to progress to the Quarter Finals, either Spain, England or Portugal, so we moved onto the Anytime Goalscorer phase of the tie breaker. With the others backing Kylian Mbappe or Cristiano Ronaldo, the latter even missing a penalty, it was @Pyfish who ended up coming through to win thanks to Harry Kane's goal in Extra Time for England against Slovakia. Congratulations to @Pyfish and thanks to everyone for taking part!

  2. I was about to say, the level Pepe showed in this tournament at 41 is not to be forgotten. He was better than Ronaldo today, as he always was for the national team. If we were to do an average rating of every player that ever played for Portugal, all tournaments considered, we would find Pepe was far better than Ronaldo, and probably top 2/3 all time. Ridiculously consistent since 2008. Maybe felt he had more to prove since he's born in Brazil, and he certainly did prove it. Ronaldo in 200+ games got us out of trouble in a handful of them, at best. 3 goals in 21 knock-out matches, frankly a pathetic record. Scored a lot of goals against minnows which tell a lie about his true impact.

  3. I don´t think it´s a coincidence that most of his stupid and violent deeds were committed during the time Mourinho was managing Real Madrid. Obviously, I am not implying Mourinho is responsible for Pepe´s actions, but I really feel like Mourinho style of management, the whole us versus them motivation techniques Mou employs were poison for a player like Pepe, who already has a short temper. I would say, yes Pepe definitely is a prick. But he is also a portuguese football legend. Considering his longevity and achievements, he probably belongs in the top 10 of portuguese football history. Maybe top 5. IMO Pepe and not Ronaldo was the best portuguese player in the 2016 european title. We really screwed up with Pepe by not calling him before Portugal did. A Thiago Silva and Pepe defense would have been unreal.

  4. So annoyed. Going to a gig tomorrow and will miss probably part of England's game, and certainly all of Holland Turkey. Really wished todays games were tomorrow because I knew that would be utterly abysmal. Portugal and France are good teams but truly stink the gaff out in the process every single time. France's is through pure pragmatism taken to the extreme, Portugal are a flawed side who cannot help but pander to Ronaldo. I find it a tricky one, he obviously deserves massive respect for what he's achieved as a player but how they're still building every aspect of their game around him. Martinez should go for this tournament showing. You gained literally nothing that Santos wouldn't have offered. Horrid game of football and a symbol of how badly this tournament has fallen. I know the knockouts can often be duller than the groups but this has taken it to a new level this time. Absolutely shocking game.

  5. People who have moved from Conservative to Reform (at least some) are the type who believe that "dealing with immigration" is something that can just easily be done overnight when in actual fact it's an incredibly complicated issue for the UK due to geography, politics and commitment to international law. A lot of these people think that the Conservatives have proved that they "won't" deal with it whereas Reform have never had power and so that accusation can't be levelled at them. In actual fact, the Conservatives simply couldn't deal with immigration in the way these people wanted within the restraints that exist in our democracy. Farage could be made PM tomorrow and have all 650 seats in Parliament and you still wouldn't see him achieve net zero migration or whatever it is these people want in a full term. The left actually have better solutions to managing immigration then the right (creating safe routes, spending more money on processing migrants and catching people traffickers, having a closer relationship with France/Europe, actually just welcoming more immigration to help staff the NHS and care services) but unfortunately Labour are still too frightened that the media and political landscape will ruin them for it that they aren't making the a strong case for any of these approaches. One thing is for sure, the Rwanda scheme is absolutely bat shit crazy on a moral, practical and economic level.

  9. Surprising how Spain went from ordinary at the WC to favourites at the Euro. Not much has changed about the team other than the inclusion of Williams & Yamal. If Germany somehow manage to beat Spain it will be the upset of the tournament.

  10. TABLE AFTER ROUND 4 In true hunter style, @Beelzebub keeps on climbing and preying on his next victims - he's now in 4th, joint with @Dan and only one point off 2nd place. In that position is @JoshBRFC who uniquely & expertly predicted the goalless draw between Portugal & Slovenia. Several players got 15 points - @Beelzebub, @The Palace Fan & @Pep Talk all improved their rankings in doing so. @6666 got the same score but remained in 10th. Perhaps interestingly @Beelzebub was the only one to do it without getting a Perfect Score, while @6666 did it with 3 perfects. They were all bettered though by 1 point by @Pyfish who is now in 12th place after the highest score in this round. @Viva la FCB is still clinging on to 1st place but perhaps has more competition with only 6 points separating his position and @The Palace Fan in 7th. Meanwhile the same gap keeps 9th place and 18th place apart. PREDICT FOR ROUND 5 HERE - Deadline is FRIDAY 5th JULY at 5pm (BST)!!

  11. The energy the Premier League are putting into this after Everton and Aston Villa have done each other a (legal) £3m-£5m sized favour compared to how quickly Chelsea's £80m hotel scandal was just shrugged off tells you everything you need to know about whose interests they're acting in.
