  1. The Ukraine v Iceland official line-ups are out and there are 3 huge surprises in the Ukrainian line-up. The experienced Zinchenko of Arsenal has been dropped in midfield and replaced by Ruslan Malinovskyi of Genoa. Moreover, star forward Dovbyk of FC Girona has been dropped and has been replaced by Yaremchuk of Valencia. Yaremchuk's introduction as a sub against Bosnia in the last match had a huge positive impact on the game, so I guess that has earned him a start today against Iceland in this pivotal match. While the other huge surprise is that Rebrov has started Tsyhankov in place of Zubkov. Tsyhankov is almost always a certain starter, but he has been out with an injury for a while and didn't even make the squad for Ukraine's last match against Bosnia a few days ago. So starting him is a huge call, seeing as he hasn't played football for a while now due to an injury. So Rebrov taking 3 very big gambles here, as he seeks for his Ukraine side to defeat Iceland in Poland. Hopefully Yaremchuk plays as well as he did against Bosnia and proves Rebrov right in starting him today. While one thing that Malinovskyi will definitely add in midfield, is the ability to blast in powerful shots at the oppositions goal. Ukrainian fans will also be hoping that Tsyhankov is fit enough to play to his potential and show off his skills. So Ukraine's official line-up is the following: Lunin (Real Madrid) Konoplya (Shakhtar Donetsk) -- Zabarnyi (Bournemouth) -- Matviyenko (Shakhtar Donetsk) -- Mykolenko (Everton) Malinovskyi (Genoa) -- Brazhko (Dynamo Kyiv) Tsyhankov (FC Girona) -- Sudakov (Shakhtar Donetsk) -- Mudryk (Chelsea) Yaremchuk (Valencia)
  2. Just as I predicted, Georgia have just beaten Greece 4-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
  3. The Georgia v Greece match has indeed gone to extra-time as I thought it would, with the scores at 0-0. Georgia 0-0 Greece
  4. Play-Off Finals Preview: Georgia v Greece (Tbilisi, Georgia) The Georgians will have home advantage in this match against a very tough Greek national team. Georgia will also have their star player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia back for this game, after the Napoli player missed Georgia's comfortable 2-0 win over Luxembourg in the play-off semi-finals. Karlsruhe striker Budu Zivzivadze scored both Georgia's goals against Luxembourg and he will be another player to watch against Greece. Watford's Giorgi Chakvetadze, Sturm Graz's Otar Kiteishvili and Levante's Giorgi Kochorashvili are key players in midfield for Georgia, while the goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has excelled this season for Valencia and his saves could be key in helping Georgia advance to the Euros in this match. The Greeks are a very solid side and are fresh from destroying Kazakhstan 5-0 in their semi-final play-off game. Panathinaikos forward Fotis Ioannidis who scored against Kazakhstan, will be their main forward up-front. Tasos Bakasetas of Panathinaikos and Dimitrios Pelkas of Istanbul Basaksehir will be who Greece look to, to create chances from midfield. Mavropanos of West Ham will marshall the central defence, while Liverpool's Tsimikas will be a key player at left-back. Keeper Vlachodimos of Notts Forest is a highly rated keeper who could also have an important contribution in this match. I think that both sides are very equally matched, but I think home advantage could help Georgia shock Greece and advance to their first ever Euros. I tip Georgia to advance, very possibly on penalties. Wales v Poland (Cardiff, Wales) Wales host Poland in Cardiff. After Wales's demolition of Finland 4-1, they will be brimming with confidence against Poland. Brennan Johnson of Tottenham will probably be the key player up-front for Wales, although Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead both of Ipswich Town and Daniel James of Leeds are other key options upfront . Harry Wilson, David Brooks, Ampadu and of course the experienced Aaron Ramsey will be important players in midfield. Poland who are the favourites, hammered Estonia 5-1 in their semi-final game. They come into this match as the favourites and the world class Lewandowski is bound to cause the Welsh defence all kinds of trouble today. Zielinski of Napoli, Zalewski of Roma, Frankowski of Lens and Szymanski of Fenerbace are all key players in midfield, who could really cause a real threat against the Welsh. Midfielder and ex-Fortuna Dusseldorf player Piotrowski has also impressed in recent matches, particularly with his long range shooting ability. Bednarek of Southampton and Kiwior of Arsenal are important players in defence. The experienced Szczesny of Juventus will be the keeper. Although the Poles are the favourites for this match, I can see it going either way. Wales always seem to play well in Cardiff and they really get inspired by their extremely loud home support. This is another really difficult game to call in my opinion, as Wales could very well produce the surprise and defeat Poland in Cardiff. But I am just going to opt for Poland's fire-power to help them advance past Wales, despite the home advantage that Wales will have. I'll say Poland to win in extra-time, maybe by a 1-2 score-line. Ukraine v Iceland (Wroclaw, Poland) Ukraine who had that dramatic 2-1 win away to Bosnia a few days ago, will want an improved performance in this match. Ukraine showed character to score 2 goals in the 85th and 88th minutes of that match, but they will hope to score much earlier than that in today's game against Iceland. Key player Tsyhankov of Girona is still not fully fit and out of match practice, but he has made the squad in Poland. Whether he is deemed fit enough to play against Iceland is another story. So it seems that Ukraine will probably stick to the team that played against Bosnia, with the exception of maybe starting Yaremchuk alongside Dovbyk up-front. Zinchenko will likely start again for this game, despite still lacking match practice, as was evident with his performance against Bosnia. Mudryk and Sudakov will have a key role to play today, as they are the players that Ukraine will look to, in terms of creating chances today. The youngster Brazhko of Dynamo Kyiv, who made his debut against Bosnia in Ukraine's last match, will probably start again. Zabarnyi and Matviyenko will as usual be the central defence partnership, with Mykolenko at left-back and Konoplya of Shaktar Donetsk at right-back. Rebrov will very likely start Lunin of Real Madrid ahead of Trubin of Benfica again. Iceland come into this match on the back of destroying Israel 4-1. Hattrick hero in that match Albert Gudmundsson of Genoa will lead the line again. He is reported to be wanted by Tottenham, such have his performances been impressive this season. So Ukraine will really need to stop him from scoring. The teen wonderkid Oskarsson of Copenhagen will also be one to look out for in Iceland's attack. Haraldsson of Lille, Hlynsson of Ajax, Johann Gudmundsson of Burnley, Isak Johannesson of Fortuna Dusseldorf and Ellertson of Venezia could all play a key role in midfield in this game. While Iceland's Brentford keeper Hakon Valdimarsson could have a very busy day today against the Ukrainians in Poland. My prediction for this game is that Ukraine perform better than they did in their last match and win this game 2-1. The fact that this match will be played on neutral territory and that Ukraine will not be playing away, as they did against Bosnia, will benefit Ukraine. Tsyhankov's continued likely absence is a blow, but Ukraine have enough fire-power to really beat this very well organised Iceland team in Poland. It won't be easy, as Iceland are a really tough side, but I say that Ukraine's talent will earn them a 2-1 win and send them to the Euros in Germany. I'll have the goal-machine Dovbyk to score at least 1 goal today.
  5. Wolfsburg started the season very well, with 4 wins in their first 6 Bundesliga matches, but after that, they have been dreadful. In fact they've not won a single match in their last 11 Bundesliga games. So I agree, I don't understand why it took the board so long to replace Kovac, as it clearly wasn't working for him as manager of Wolfsburg.
  6. They are not an aged team, they only have 3 players of the regulars who are in their 30's namely Modric, Kramaric and Brozovic. The rest of the regulars are in their 20's, most in their mid-20's. They have some very good players and they will certainly be tough for most opposition, but there are many other teams at this tournament who are at a similar standard to Croatia. So I just think they are one of many teams who look good and have good players.
  7. I mentioned Germany as a team that can't be ruled out in terms of winning the actual tournament, before the friendly match with France. Although there are teams such as England and France who are the strong clear favourites to win these Euros, the likes of Germany and several other teams, have a decent chance of winning it themselves, given the abundance of talent a lot of these sides have.
  8. They've been very impressive today, we knew the talent was always there and now it seems like the team are functioning excellently as a unit. I know it's a friendly, but still they've been better than France so far and the 2-0 score-line is fully justified.
  9. Wirtz didn't waste anytime to score, did he? Germany have looked pretty decent against France in Lyon for the first half an hour of this match.
  10. He is a bigoted idiot, who only sews hatred with much of the things that he says. I mean we would expect someone in his position to get basic geography correct, but I've commonly heard other idiots say things like "more violence in the Middle East", when violence has occurred in countries like Libya, Chad, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. There's a lot of ignorance out there.
  11. It's actually disgusting what happened there, with those innocent lives taken. The Islamic jihad groups have claimed attacks in the past that hasn't been them, but either way, whoever committed this massacre on innocent lives are evil. My enemy are all extremist organisations and leaderships around the world, as well as the government of Russia, not the innocent people of Russia.
  12. Not our strongest line-up either, no Kane, Saka or Cole. But these are friendlies anyway, it will be good to see how some of the new players in Brazil play and how the likes of England's Gordon performs.
  13. England and France have to be the obvious clear favourites, but after them, there are a whole host of countries that could potentially win it. You didn't list Spain, a team who have a great chance of winning it. You can also never rule Germany out, despite their very poor recent form. Talent wise, Germany have the players who could be a real threat at the tournament, if their manager actually finds the right formula and tactics, especially as they have home advantage. You didn't even mention Belgium, another team who arguably have a better chance of winning it than their neighbours the Netherlands who you listed. You also list Croatia(They lost to both Turkey and Wales in competitive matches recently), I'd say Ukraine's team is better than theirs now, player for player. Where is Italy or even Denmark? These are all teams in with a realistic shout of winning it, to varying degrees. The rest of the teams will also be very tough to play against and many have some serious talent to really cause surprises. There are a lot of tough teams at these Euros, which will make watching this competition all the more enjoyable. I have to say though, with the quality that this England team has, this is the best chance we have of winning a major competition in years. Bellingham is now at his peak and with the rest of the talent around him, England could put in some really impressive displays at these Euros.
  14. At the end of the day, I was mostly impressed by Dynamo Kyiv's 22 year old defensive midfielder Volodymyr Brazhko who made his debut today in this huge play-off match against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Brazhko put in an impressive performance, where his work-rate and constant running stood out for Ukraine today. It was a very good performance for the youngster, who was playing for the very first time for the Ukraine national team. It looks like Ukraine have found a great new defensive midfielder, as Brazhko can now seriously challenge the much more experienced defensive midfielders Stepanenko and Sydorchuk for a place in the Ukraine starting 11. Mudryk, Sudakov, Konoplya and Dovbyk also had good games for Ukraine, but the man of the match has to be the substitute Roman Yaremchuk, whose late appearance changed the course of this match. Yaremchuk scored Ukraine's 1st goal and he assisted Ukraine's 2nd goal with a lovely cross for Dovbyk to score the winner for Ukraine. All in all, it was a performance today that called on Ukraine's character and they past the test away in difficult conditions in Bosnia. Ukraine will now play an impressive Iceland side in the play-off final in Poland. Iceland are fresh from having thrashed Israel 4-1.
  15. A late 5th goal for Greece, through an own goal by Erkin Tapalov in the 86th minute made the final result an emphatic 5-0 win for Greece in Athens. This was an impressive performance by Greece in front of their home fans, the stadium was packed and they witnessed a star performance by the Greece national team in this match. Final score: Greece 5-0 Kazakhstan Greece goals: Bakasetas penalty goal 9th minute, Dimitrios Pelkas 15th minute, Fotis Ioannidis 37th minute, Dimitrios Kourbelis 40th minute, Erkin Tapavalov own goal 86th minute.
  16. Genoa's Albert Gudmundsson scored 2 more goals in the 2nd half to complete his hattrick! It was an incredible performance for Gudmundsson and Iceland, as they recovered from going a goal down to Israel in the 31st minute, to end up winning the match 4-1! It was an impressive and dominant performance by Iceland and Gudmundsson was clearly the man of the match. Final score: Israel 1-4 Iceland Israel goal: Eran Zahavi penalty goal 31st minute. Iceland goals: Albert Gudmundsson 39th minute, Arnor Traustason 42nd minute, Albert Gudmundsson 83rd minute, Albert Gudmundsson 87th minute.
  17. Wales added a 4th goal in their match against Finland, as Daniel James scored in the 87th minute to make it 4-1 to Wales in Cardiff. Congratulations @Bluebird Hewitt for the dominant win in Cardiff! Next up for the Welsh national team is a play-off final match against Poland in Cardiff, to decide who goes to Euro 2024 in Germany. That match should be a real cracker! Final score: Wales 4-1 Finland Wales goals: David Brooks 3rd minute, Neco Williams 38th minute, Brennan Johnson 47th minute, Daniel James 87th minute. Finland goal: Teemu Pukki 45th minute.
  18. In Warsaw, Poland added 4th and 5th goals through an own goal by Karol Mets and a goal by Polish player Szymanski. Estonia scored a consolation goal in the 78th minute through Martin Vetkal. Final score: Poland 5-1 Estonia Poland goals: Frankowski 22nd minute, Zielinski 50th minute, Piotrowski 70th minute, Karol Mets own goal 74th minute, Szymanski 76th minute. Estonia goal: Martin Vetkal 78th minute.
  19. Rebrov bringing on Valencia forward Yaremchuk on as a substitute turned out to be an inspired move. Mudryk picked out Konoplya on the right wing with a superb long diagonal pass. Konoplya then crossed the ball low into the penalty area and Yaremchuk was on hand to sweep the ball into the corner of the net with a neat right footed shot. Then 3 minutes later in the 88th minute, Mykolenko picked out Yaremchuk out on the left wing with a through pass, Yaremchuk ran down the left wing, he then beat the defender Kovacevic and then delivered a beautiful cross for FC Girona's Dovbyk to score with a fine towering header. Dovbyk's header found the bottom hand corner of the net and it gave Ukraine the lead they were looking for. Ukraine did incredibly well to turn this match around, in intense conditions in Zenica. The Ukraine national team showed great character to win this match and to qualify for the final play-off match in the manner that they did. In fact, Ukraine could have added a 3rd goal right at the end of the match, but Mudryk's shot deflected off the Bosnian defender and went narrowly past the post for a corner. Prior to Ukraine's 2 goals, Mudryk forced a very good save from Bosnian keeper Sehic in the 77th minute with a long range shot, while at the other end, Lunin saved superbly from a Demirovic shot in the 82nd minute. Final score: Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-2 Ukraine Bosnia goal: Matviyenko own goal 56th minute. Ukraine goals: Roman Yaremchuk 85th minute, Artem Dovbyk 88th minute.
  20. Mudryk almost adds a third goal on the counter attack but his shot is deflected just wide of the post. Ukraine win as the final whistle is blown! Bosnia 1-2 Ukraine
  21. Ukraine have turned this match around in a matter of minutes!! The substitute Roman Yaremchuk equalised for Ukraine in the 85th minute and then star striker Artem Dovbyk scored the winner in the 88th minute! Ukraine now lead 2-1 in Bosnia! Bosnia 1-2 Ukraine
  22. Piotrowski scores Poland's 3rd goal! Poland 3-0 Estonia
  23. RB Salzburg's Amar Dedic has given Bosnia the lead in Zenica! Dedic's cross shot deflected off Matviyenko and found the back of the Ukrainian net. Bosnia take the lead in Zenica! Ukraine have to respond now and show some character! Bosnia 1-0 Ukraine
  24. Brennan Johnson has extended Wales's lead against Finland, as he scored Wales's 3rd goal at the start of the 2nd half in the 47th minute. Wales are now looking comfortable here in Cardiff, as they have been much the better side so far against Finland. Wales 3-1 Finland
