  1. Really enjoying the football from Valencia this season. They're much tighter at the back and look to play out while in possession. Lino has been a nightmare to defend against and Moriba is starting to click in midfield. It's a shame the squad has so many loan signings as they could really build on this core of younger players.
  2. Had the opportunity to see them for free a few weeks back but I had never heard of them so I passed. I'm getting old as the idea of going to a concert just doesn't sound appealing anymore.
  3. Horrible start to the season for them, but he did have his 2 star CB's sold. Still, I figured they'd give him more time considering his record with them. I think he's made the CL 3-4 years in a row on a modest budget.
  4. On this topic, we used to have a local television news reporter that frequented the bookstore. He was known to be difficult to work with and a notorious "returner"... he'd consume the product (book/music/magazine, etc.) and then return it for a refund, claiming it was defective or "it wasn't what he thought it was". I was working kasse once and he came up and slapped down his ID and asked for a refund on some books. I looked at his ID and said "ah, I know who you are", meaning that he wasn't going to get anything from me that day. He took it completely wrong and gave me this big ass smile, stuck out his hand for a shake, and said "thanks for watching" .
  5. I don't know how many times this gets played here in the US. I used to work in a bookstore when I was in college and so many times we had to cater to assholes. It used to eat me up. The German approach seems to be the correct one, honestly.
  6. So we got about 5 inches of rain over a 24-hour period from Sunday morning into Monday morning. It actually started raining off and on Friday night and all day Saturday. Think we got about 8 inches in total from Friday night to Monday night. It was so dry here that the ground soaked it all up so that we were out in the yard last night and you could hardly tell it had rained at all.
  7. Speaking of Valencia, hopefully a revival on the pitch for them after that utter destruction of Getafe on Sunday. Last season they'd have gone up 1-0 and then conceded a late equalizer under Bordalas. I'm not convinced by Gattuso but at least he has them playing attractive football again and the squad seems to be trimmed down to players that a) want to be there, and b) give a damn. Toni Lato scoring that worldie and then pointing to the badge and making a signature motion (just signed an extension) got the crowd going. Musah put in a hell of a shift as well. That's the loudest I've heard the home crowd in a long time.
  8. Because the management at Valencia is so bad and they were desperate for cash to balance the books. Some of this is on Soler as well. He was angling for the move once he found out PSG were interested. He didn't play this past weekend, unused sub. I hope he enjoys rotting on the bench at PSG.
  9. I think like Werner he'll find that there's no place like the Bundesliga. The chance to make more money and play in a higher profile league is hard to pass up for some players, even if they'll be lower-mid table battlers.
  10. Don't forget cup matches. It could be 6-8 if they get to the semi-finals.
  11. One more thing that I'd add. I could care less what the perception of the league is from non-Bundesliga fans and the media. It gets a lot of play because it gets clicks and stirs up a lot of emotion amongst fans. I know the product is good (Hertha may be the exception) and I'm going to watch it. But I would also like to see it be more competitive within itself. Watching Bayern win it year on year does get annoying.
  12. Yeah, that quote from Reus pissed me off when I saw it on Twitter. Real helpful. Uli can be quite controversial but I think on matters of the league as a whole he's been spot on. Personally, it does matter to me where the money comes from because that's part of the soul of a club.
  13. It's interesting to note in the comments below how Bayern fans are largely all-in on trying to make the league more balanced. There were also a few comments in there about how the Buli produces better matches, game by game. This is a very good point that I think the casual fan might overlook. Watching the EPL is a slog for me as there is a lot of anti-football being played. I think that has been trending down over the years but in general the scoring is much lower. Look at the Buli where goals per game has to be near the top compared to all other leagues and the quality of football is very good. Union's first year up they played a low-block hoofball style but they have evolved considerably. Even Fuerth tried to play last season. From top to bottom the product is entertaining, but as the article mentions some fans just want to see the star players and UCL football. And what really irks me is that too many fans don't care where their club sources their cash. Tell me how well the EPL would do without dirty money.
  14. Physics isn't just fusion and space exploration. It also explains basic things like friction, speed, acceleration, gravity, and force. Again, I'm not arguing against chemistry... I think they go hand in hand. I would argue that @nudge is correct in that having the knowledge is great but practical use of this knowledge is really what changed the world.
  15. That's my degree...teehee...
  16. Hard to argue against chemistry but if I was going to pick one I'd say physics.
