  1. Old data. 2013, to be precise. The other survey is from 2016. So it's already a bit outdated as it is, nevermind the questions about the methodology.
  2. Another thing to consider is that quite a few countries in the "most racist" list have had ongoing internal or external conflicts in recent past or present with certain other nations or ethnic groups, so it's probably not surprising that it would strongly influence their preferences in terms of having neighbours of other race/nationality.
  3. All meathead chavs should be banned from travelling, regardless of nationality.
  4. I have literally just read it 10 minutes ago, too. Weird shit. I don't think I ever heard of airspace of an European country being closed due to an UFO before... What's weird is that it is happening in different places, suddenly. Several in US/Canada, one in China, now two in Romania and Moldova.
  5. It would be hilarious if they accidentally shot down their own experimental new tech, so that's why I hope this is the case and they are withholding it from the public because it would be fucking embarrassing

Well, you could definitely say that doing tax forms is by far more useful for the general population compared to quadratic equations, so the joke's on them! Personally, I like and also prefer using equations in problem solving. I absolutely adored the logic course at the uni with the truth tables etc. for that reason alone I like the efficiency and clearly defined parameters.

My mental process was essentially the same, converting it into an equation just makes it faster...
  8. But just a short while ago the US authorities have said that those objects were not balloons? Now they are saying it was balloons, after all? In fact, I am pretty sure they even said that they were not able to identify the means of propulsion of those objects visually, which was the most interesting part of me, that's why I remember it. They are also now saying that the debris "might never be recovered", which to me is dodgy as fuck

Come on guys, that's simple algebra... I think if I had to retake my 12th grade math exam, I wouldn't do really well though
  10. Nothing against her and any other driver taking part, but it just shows how ludicrous the whole concept is if they are signing drivers in their mid-20s with no chance of ever making it to F1. Don't really get the point of that.
  11. The name rings a bell from VLN.

I probably wouldn't notice it even with its mouth open...

The music makes it twice as creepy!
  14. I don't think they had much choice back then Also the blur in that screenshotted image made me think I lost my contact lens...
  15. It's definitely interesting, but as you can imagine, it's also pretty touristy with souvenir shops and whatnot and so they kinda rush you through it all. The guide was pretty proud to demonstrate all the traps though, at that moment I was glad I'm not American, tbh I enjoyed it though, and going into the tunnel was something I wanted to do, so it was still worth a trip for me! Just completely mind-blowing and sobering when you realise that people actually lived there, cooked food, slept, had children, hospitals, etc. Must have been extremely tough...
  16. Very crafty... Those tunnels in general are the stuff that nightmares are made of. I went to the ones that are already adapted to the tourists, and the experience was still claustrophobic af
  17. Not a fact, but rather an amazing infographic - Viet Cong tunnel systems during the Vietnam War.
  18. You can't have a scientific consensus about something that we simply don't know anything about. If you ask a large number of cosmologists, astronomers, physicists etc. if there's intelligent life out there, you will be getting a large number of personal opinions and beliefs, that's it. At this point, it's just a philosophical discussion to have in a pub. Interesting and fun, but essentially pointless. We don't know what is outside of the observable universe. We don't know how big the entire universe is. We don't really know how the universe works. Hell, we don't even know the solar system that well. I don't think we have true science that can estimate the possibilities of life, nevermind intelligent life.
  19. I understand your reasoning, but in the end, it's all just speculation. I do agree that given the size and age of the Universe, there's a chance that intelligent life has arisen somewhere else at some point, maybe in several places, or maybe it's even pretty common. But there are many factors at play, and absolutely no way to prove or disprove it.
  20. I think it's the word "alien" that causes misunderstandings. To me, a microbe in the ocean under ice sheets of Europa would fit the description of alien. But I realise that to many, it means an intelligent and technologically advanced form of life by default...
  21. Or you just saved the humanity from extinction by being an introvert who doesn't like phone calls. Some heroes do not wear capes
  22. Lol I don't think he's got anything wrong, there's no evidence or even a consensus either way.
  23. Astronomers. And yeah haha, I figured what you meant, it just irks me because I hate astrology with passion
  24. Erm, no. Most scientists do not believe that there is intelligent life in the universe, nor has it been explained why aliens haven't come to Earth... What many scientists believe is that the existence of extraterrestrial life in the past or present is likely in the vast Universe, but we're mostly talking about microbial lifeforms here, not intelligent alien civilisations. Drake Equation and Fermi paradox looking at the potential number of alien civilisations and the reasons there hasn't been any contact is nothing but a thought experiment...
