  1. Not a fact, but rather an amazing infographic - Viet Cong tunnel systems during the Vietnam War.
  2. You can't have a scientific consensus about something that we simply don't know anything about. If you ask a large number of cosmologists, astronomers, physicists etc. if there's intelligent life out there, you will be getting a large number of personal opinions and beliefs, that's it. At this point, it's just a philosophical discussion to have in a pub. Interesting and fun, but essentially pointless. We don't know what is outside of the observable universe. We don't know how big the entire universe is. We don't really know how the universe works. Hell, we don't even know the solar system that well. I don't think we have true science that can estimate the possibilities of life, nevermind intelligent life.
  3. I understand your reasoning, but in the end, it's all just speculation. I do agree that given the size and age of the Universe, there's a chance that intelligent life has arisen somewhere else at some point, maybe in several places, or maybe it's even pretty common. But there are many factors at play, and absolutely no way to prove or disprove it.
  4. I think it's the word "alien" that causes misunderstandings. To me, a microbe in the ocean under ice sheets of Europa would fit the description of alien. But I realise that to many, it means an intelligent and technologically advanced form of life by default...
  5. Or you just saved the humanity from extinction by being an introvert who doesn't like phone calls. Some heroes do not wear capes
  6. Lol I don't think he's got anything wrong, there's no evidence or even a consensus either way.
  7. Astronomers. And yeah haha, I figured what you meant, it just irks me because I hate astrology with passion
  8. Erm, no. Most scientists do not believe that there is intelligent life in the universe, nor has it been explained why aliens haven't come to Earth... What many scientists believe is that the existence of extraterrestrial life in the past or present is likely in the vast Universe, but we're mostly talking about microbial lifeforms here, not intelligent alien civilisations. Drake Equation and Fermi paradox looking at the potential number of alien civilisations and the reasons there hasn't been any contact is nothing but a thought experiment...
  9. I don't think anyone genuinely believes that those objects are aliens, lol.
  10. Yes, even if there's intelligent life out there, it's extremely unlikely bordering to impossible that we would ever be able to make contact. Constant expansion of the universe makes it even less likely.
  11. Genuine question - you strongly believe that life doesn't exist anywhere outside of Earth? I'm not talking about intelligent life forms specifically, but rather life in general, even in the most primitive forms.
  12. That's actually not quite true, it got distorted in the media. There was a study conducted by the Center of Theological Inquiry, a non-profit theological institute in Princeton which looked into the potential societal impact of finding life beyond Earth, and NASA provided a grant to the researchers (which included some theologians, too). It also didn't happen last year, but rather in 2015-2017. However, there is currently an attempt to come up with an official protocol for alien contact, and it's being worked on by the SETI Detection Hub. More details here: https://www.space.com/alien-contact-protocol.html
  13. There were also two UFOs shot down in Alaska and Canada earlier today, and one flew over Montana but then disappeared, apparently. I would really laugh my ass off if it turned out that we're now up for an alien invasion

    Animals

In the massive forests surrounding my grandma's homestead when I was a kid. They generally avoid people, but through all the years, I managed a few sightings, one we saw even had pups... Now all those forests are more or less gone, it's a shame. And yes, it's the same in LT - people are pissed that wolves are attacking their livestock, but they conveniently forget that by destroying their natural habitat they've literally taken their home and their food away from them, so what choice do they have? Another thing that happens is falsely reporting higher number of wolf sightings so that the annual hunting quotas get increased.

Indeed! Wolves are fascinating... This one is massive, too! I have seen wolves in wilderness, but nothing compared to this big boy!

  18. This is pretty cool... Juan Pablo Montoya will drive for Dragonspeed in ELMS together with his son
  19. Well, at least it's obvious where and from whom the kid learned those attitudes...

  21. I wouldn't normally care about any celebrity trying to become a racing driver (except for Steve McQueen, of course ), but it's hard NOT to like this one. The "Road to Le Mans" series on YouTube by Porsche documenting the team's and Michael Fassbender's progress is phenomenal; easily the best racing documentary content I've ever seen. Good to have confirmation that it'll be back for one more season. And probably even more importantly, Richard Lietz is back, too. Such a great driver, and looks like a quality person as well.
