Guest
@The Palace Fan anyway Devildickwilllie doesn't seem to be that interested in western wrestling so no point in tagging him. What did you think of the new years shows? Like I said I thought aew put on the better show. But I thought the last women standing match was the best match over the two shows. Haven't seen last night's aew dynamite yet.
Dave
Yeah. Rhea Ripley's match against Raquel Gonzalez and Kenny Omega's match against Rey Fenix were very good. WWE must be delighted with the unexpected emergence of Gonzalez whilst AEW should get doing more with Lucha Bros.

If they aren't the next tag team champions I would be very disappointed. The aew tag team division is quite strong I think. Possibly stronger than nxt? You have the young bucks, FTR, lucha brothers as the standouts. Then you have teams like the hybrid 2, private party. Bare in mind to have 3 standout teams is actually quite rare. One team for me that stands out for the future is top flight. 19 and 21 years old. I think they could be one of the best,if not the best tag teams in the world in a few years. The main issue is the womens division. The nxt womens division is brilliant. I use to watch wrestling 20 years ago when womens wrestling was unfortunately quite bad. I then stopped and watched it about ten years ago where it was better but not great. Since I have only just started watching nxt I have never actually seen very good womens wrestling. The first nxt episode I watched I already saw the best womens match I have ever seen. Aew's womens divisions is like wwe ten years ago. It has got better but it still needs alot of work if it is going to get anywhere near nxt.
Dave
Yeah, NXT's divison is nothing to shout about at the minute. The debut of MSK was a bit weird. Its a bit like how AEW's women's divison is nothing to shout about to the point where they would rather have NWA women's title matches. Devil-Dick Willie
Even if you take out the flippy indie trash who can't actually work Young Bucks, FTR, LAX, Best friends, SCU, are all great. Jurassic express (minus the dweeb) and even private party have potential in bags. Then Dustin/QT and Jericho/Hager are solid throw ins. In NJPW Roppongi 3k, GOD, Dangerous Tekkers and Desperado/Kanemaru are the only 4 dedicated tag teams to shout about. Everyone else is just singles stars thrown together. (and dangerous tekkers is basically that anyway) WWE has penty of great tag teams, and beats AEW if you combined them, but they're all split up and/or doing dumb shit Miz/Morrison, UE, Lorchan and Birch, Moustache mountain, Imperium, New day, Street Prophets, Breezango, Hurt business ect if combined would be no 1. Dave
I dont think Vince McMahon has ever been a major fan of tag team wrestling. Even when the tag divisons were stacked in 2017/2018 the WWE didn't focus on them.
Guest
@The Palace Fan I was thinking the other day if maybe there are to many groups in aew. Darby allan had a match with Brian cage the other night. But he had been having issues with team taz for months. If they were not a group he could have a rivalry with starks then one with cage it would have seen fresher. Groups are a big part of wrestling but when you have a smaller roster like aew maybe you want to keep it to a minimum?? Anyway been enjoying the brand crossover with impact. Also like the issues with the inner circle. Wondering of one of the inner circle members might turn face. If it does happen I think it could be sammy. I think he has enough credibility to turn face and I think the fans would cheer him. Perhaps team him up with Darby Allen. I think that could work well. They did this at the start of The Attitude Era in terms of grouping people together in factions to see who stands out. It was effective then with The Rock and Triple H so I think they're hoping that somebody like Ricky Starks stands out from the pact and becomes a future main eventer. I watch the NXT UK Takeovers or major shows but that's my extent unfortunately. There's too much wrestling on to prioritise it.

No nothing about njpw or ring of honour or the bullet club 5 years back Bullet club were the biggest thing in wrestling. AJ styles was the groups leader, though it was Finn Balor who started the bullet club with the good brothers, GOD and Bad Luck Fale. Omega was the jnr weight The Bucks were the jnr tag specialists GOD and good brothers were the tag teams. Other members include Adam Cole, Cody Rhodes, hangman and Marty Scurll. Then, with no warning, Cody, Omega, Hangman and the Bucks all left NJPW to form a self indulgent wrestling company. Hence why there's no love between NJPW and AEW. Guest
@The Palace Fan so why is it the wrestling in nxt is better than the main shows? Do they hold back abit in the main shows, do they keep small guys who are good tecknical wrestlers on nxt?

It was a platform for the developmental guys, and a stop for veterans joining the company to get used to doing things the WWE way and get some momentum for 6-12 months before joining the main roster. Show was one hour a week, wrestling driven story lines. The answer to your question is that it's because Vince isn't involved. It was HHHs baby. Now it's a 2 hour show and more sports entertainmenty. Much worse. When the top of the roster was EC3, UE, Gargano, Ciampa, Ricochet, those were the days
Subscriber JoshBRFC+ Posted January 26, 2021 Subscriber Share Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) Really can't imagine there being any surprise returns in the Rumble this year. If there's one hour of the year where you need fans it's the Royal Rumble. Edited January 26, 2021 by JoshBRFC

I get the impression Vince is just willing to take the majority of the slack for others. I think it will be quite telling when he eventually is replaced how little the production changes. Triple H didn't earn his Golden Shovel nickname for nothing. You're right about NXT's best era though. When it was reacting to RoH and similar companies as a one hour weekly pure wrestling show it was at its best. When AEW emerged and they moved the concept to putting a ceiling on them was when I stopped enjoying it as much. You now have a situation where guys like Cole, Gargano, Ciampa and Ripley have stayed too long that they've lost momentum and everybody on the roster is trying to be a bad ass as opposed to showing character.

Guest
@The Palace Fanwhat wrestling do you watch? I watch aew and nxt? Hard to decide between the two but I probably slightly prefer nxt. Just because they have a bigger roster and so it is easier to keep it fresh.

I cut out ROH and Impact once AEW came along as it was too much. I've began watching Impact again since Kenny Omega arrived albeit the story seems pretty generic (Omega beats Swann at Rebellion, Moose wins the title off Omega at Slammiversary). I give NJPW's big pay per views a watch and TripleMania just so I can join in the conversations around best matches / shows. I think NJPW has the best format as it allows long term storytelling.
