I've been best man for my brother's wedding. The speech is natural to be nervous for but after the first line/joke is out of the way, you'll breeze it. I hate public speaking but I loved being up in front of 500 talking about my bro and embarrassing him a bit during the speech. Don't make the speech too long, either!

Oh and compliment the bride. Always compliment the bride.

Cheers mate, Good pointers. I think writing the speech will be the hardest part for me to be honest. I havent done public speaking i guess since high school but yeah as you say getting over the initial nerves and that first knee slapper is the key.

I always had only a small circle of close friends too, so it makes it even more disappointing when the bond breaks for whatever reason. The previous example with the newlyweds was really just them being inconsiderate, so it's not that bad, although that said, we did drift apart years later. I understand that life gets in the way, families, relationships, career, children, etc. I do think it's not hard to put a bit of an effort to maintain the friendship though... The worst thing, however, is when you think you're friends with someone for a long time and then it turns out it's not exactly true, haha. Oh well, I guess friendships are like relationships; the one who's more invested always loses.

Thats exactly it, if somone is like that is it worth it if the effort falls on you to keep up the relationship? People change, your priorities and situations always change but the close friends are the ones worth your effort! Tsubs is right this got to serious though i feel like I need a meme now.

do you drink? I know it's not for everyone but I had a (very) swift pint before I went up to do my speech. Really settled the nerves!

Regarding the bachelor/stag party, I'm not in to the total lad culture (there were enough of my brother's mates to do all that shite) so I made sure that we all did things that everyone enjoyed. We went to Liverpool which is a great weekend out anyway. There were about 15-18 of us if I remember correctly and we're all football mad so I set up a 5-a-side footy tournament for all of us. The drive up was fun as it is on a minibus with lots of beers on the way up (the journey down was dead quiet xD) . A night out in Liverpool is fantastic, such a vibrant city and cheap drinks up north.

Also did a tour of Anfield and got my brother to dress up as a full-kit wanker in a kit that was far too small for him.

Na, no worries, mate. I just didn't expect it, when I clicked on this topic. I've been to a few weddings. The best part was the alcohol.

Oh my yes, I think that is the best way to get going.

That sounds like a great idea for your party. My buddy told me right away his only request is no strippers xD hes not a drinker either so off the top of my head a day of activites was probably the best way to go about it. We used to go to the casino alot together in our younger years with more throw away income so i figure thats a good place to end up. As for the rest some combination of paintball and axle throwing, Ill have to come up with some more here

. Unfortunately he doesnt play or follow any sports anymore but he used to play hockey alot we could maybe do something around our Vancouver Canucks, its expensive as fuck to rent the ice but I have done that in the past. Cheers for the ideas anyway i actually dont have a ton of time, the weddings 6 months away at this point.

How about this for an idea!

I am coming over for the Pokal next Tuesday and staying through to Thursday morning.  Super person Thea (liverbird) and Hubby are putting me up and I intend to take them for Dinner Tuesday evening in Essen - or Dusseldorf- or Duisburg or wherever within reach and hope Tommy can join us- what about Faithcore? A sort of mini winter get-together for an evening before I get too sad on Wednesday night if we select our usual team with no decent forwards and a semi crappy defence - now there's a topic for Tuesday to put me right on that! Any takers?

I won't be able to make it next week but I wish you guys much fun.

Maybe you want to come along when Inga is visiting Germany this summer.

When Inga is MAYBE visiting Germany this summer  I'm currently looking to move to another town, so depending on how smooth it goes, I might have to postpone my summer plans.

No way, Inga. I've already made some reservations which can't be canceled anymore.

I don't think I'll be able to make it next week either. My schedule looks hella busy, as the young kids used to say.

I'm available in the summer though, when Inga comes over to have some Altbier

What about König Schumacher?

That's no big deal. My service for König Pilsener probably ends in march though. So you better hurry :P
