Cicero Posted June 6, 2019 Posted June 6, 2019 Highest honor there is for military and civil distinction. Sorry, but since when did winning the WC have the same merit as soldiers sacrificing their lives or going beyond the call of duty?

Administrator Stan Posted June 7, 2019 Administrator Posted June 7, 2019 Find it very hard to morally agree with that, especially at a time when there's a lot of nostalgia and emotion around the 75th anniversary of D-Day. No way should footballers receive the highest such order of honour. They're men kicking a ball around on some grass, simply speaking. Not men who literally go out to fight in wars and genuinely risk their lives or sacrifice them. It seems an insensitive decision to give them such an award.

To think footballers have received the same honour as some Resistance members (and not even all of them) from WWII is abhorrent.
The Artful Dodger Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 Isn't it the same as Knighting people in the UK? It's all just pompous guff. Give over with the 'won't someone think of the war dead' shit, the original virtue signal.

The Artful Dodger Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 The legion of honor is not just for military achievements.
6666 Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 This isn't a military specific honour. They just honour whoever stands out in their field. Harvey Weinstein has one. This "highest honour" doesn't seem that prestigious.
