Sepp Van Den Berg - Joins Brentford for £25m
Dr. Gonzo replied to Dave's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
He's just off the back of a pretty decent season in the Bundesliga with their current champions interested in him. I actually think it's mental that in a bidding war with Leverkusen, Brentford came out on top because Leverkusen would have to sell a defender before they could buy another one. Looking at our backline depth and the number of injury prone players we have, with the possibility of needing to replace our best defender at the end of the season, I do wonder if we're going to regret letting him go tbh. He never really truly got a fair shake with us so I've got no idea if he can make the step up to being a squad player/possible regular for us. -
Did Edwards have a summer where we signed literally nobody, though? I think people generally like Edwards because he got his transfers done with relatively little background noise - very little in the way of media leaks and long drawn out sagas (other than the Virgil Van Dijk saga)... and most of his signings turned out to be really great. Keita's probably the only one that I think was a genuinely bad deal and even then, he had some big moments for us. Now he's not quite DOF, he's the DOF's boss - so I do think it's strange that with Hughes as DOF under him we had a mini-saga with Zubimendi that turned out to be a big throwback of our failure to land a big name midfielder last season (which is obviously going to disappoint people) & other than that we're apparently still making moves for that Valencia keeper that won't even play for us this season. I think it's understandably frustrating when last season was a good season, that probably could have been a great season, had we had a bit more depth... and now this season we're going into the season with mostly the same squad - but with fewer players. It doesn't fill me with great optimism if we're hoping to compete with City and Arsenal for the title. I fear we're just shooting for a top 4 finish... and the problem with that is if we miss our shot it's pretty bad for us. After last season, I'd argue FSG should be setting us up to shoot for going for the title all season long and not falling away at the end due to depth. That way if we miss, we can still have what could be considered a pretty decent season. If we miss top 4, I think all LFC fans will be pretty unhappy. I think it's a bold move to not back a new manager in their first window and to see how the current squad gels, while also trimming some of the depth we've got in the squad. If the plan is to let him assess the squad until January... it's a gamble but maybe it pays off, but the danger there is the January market is usually more expensive than the summer market. I can't really see FSG being too keen on any big signing in January unless one of Hughes' top targets is suddenly available. Couple that with basically no news on a new contract for Trent, Salah, and Virgil... and I think it's understandable that there's a lot of anxiety amongst the fans. Especially with regard to Trent's contract and the belief that Bellingham & Madrid are going to do all they can to lure him there once his contract is up.

Tbh she only really attached herself to "radical policies" (which for the US is slightly left leaning lol) while in the senate. It's actually interesting she's campaigning on more of a centrist platform compared to someone like Obama who campaigned as someone more left wing but when he actually became president was incredibly centrist. Same old story with America though since the 80s. The right comes in and makes a mess of everything, some democrat comes in to steady the ship and in the process has to compromise with the right because of how American politics is designed to be slow and gridlocked -while simultaneously pulling America's centrist party that likes to dress up like it's a left wing party further to the right. Then a republican idiot gets elected, makes a mess of everything... and the process repeats itself. The US, like the UK, is a more conservative country than I think a lot of people realise. The electorate gravitates towards the right and centre more often than not, anything that's actually left wing is painted as fringe and weird.

Hasn't she made hating trans people her identity over the past however many years? I wish she'd go back to telling us random things like "Well actually, Dumbledore is gay, Snape's got a tiny cock, and the Sorting Hat's favourite sex act is rimming" instead of being such a hateful twat.

Holy shit, thank god we got Coutinho over Paul Ince - aside from Coutinho at his best being far better than Ince, who at best I think looked like a decent prospect honestly, that money from the sale to Barca got us some massive signings that helped us win a title and CL.

Joao Felix - Completes Return to Chelsea

I think getting rid of Gallagher for this guy was stupid -
Sad it was basically canceled because people who didn’t watch it complained very loudly

Lol nah players have baited players into doing something stupid and overreacting to make sure the referee does something about the obvious red card for… literally for fucking ever. It’s not great sportsmanship, but players should be expected to work on keeping their cool and to avoid doing anything that was an obvious red card. I think it’s more scandalous the weirdo who fingered Gabriel Jesus didn’t see a red card. -

I’ll never forgive Guardiola/City and the refs for wearing Klopp down to where he left early -
It’s kind of bittersweet. It’s good to plan for life after the best keeper I think I’ve ever see us have. But at 31 Alisson’s still young for a keeper - so it makes me think his time here won’t be much longer. Looks like it’s fallen through though, lol

I can't believe Hughes' first signing for us is going to be a keeper that's going on loan to his former club for at least a season
-
Yeah, that's the strangest part of FSG's reluctance to spend beyond our "top targets" if we can't land them imo. We've got this data driven recruitment approach - and that's fine. I'm all for using good data to bring in the right players to the squad. But it is just hard to believe that all the data and analytics can point to just one potential player with no room for backups. I suppose a decent counterpoint is, finding a good holding midfielder in 2024 is pretty fucking challenging. Having said that, I prefer not making any signings to having a stupid panic buy/loan - like that Arthur deal, where he came in, got injured and we never saw from him again (no fault of his own, but he was injury prone before he joined us - I'm not surprised he wasn't of much use in a more physical league and I'm happy for him on a personal level that he bounced back a bit at Fiorentina)... I'd rather give someone from the academy a chance. Also Endo's not a bad player. He might not be ideal for Slot's system, but I think he's certainly capable of doing a job at #6. But I do think its worrying we haven't made any signings... and that we've got no news on whether we're any closer to a deal for Trent (who I think the DoF has to get him to extend his deal or he'll be under a ridiculous amount of pressure from the fans), and Mo and Virgil.
-
Shame, he was the glue holding that bobsled team together.
-
I don't really see the point of signing that keeper and sending him out on loan unless we're thinking Alisson's not got much time left but we're also planning on not keeping Kelleher (who tbh I thought we would have sold this summer - but I guess not). It is frustrating though because it's what... 3 times in the last 5 years that we've been kind of insisting on only going after our top targets - when we don't get them, we don't do much... and it's definitely hurt our chances of success those seasons. I guess having said that, it's not like Endo's a bad option - although I think there's question marks over whether he can do that #6 role in Slot's system or whether we'll be playing Gravenberch a bit deeper than normal (which has me a little worried about our defensive solidity tbh). I guess contract extensions for Mo, Virgil, and Trent should be up next on the drawing board for Hughes. But if we don't get that done pretty soon, we could be looking at a summer we've got to replace probably the 3 biggest leaders in the side. A bit stressful, but guess we've just got to wait and see what happens next.

I think it's kind of hard to not mention race given the pretty racist rioting that came after another stabbing, tbh.

Looks like we won't be signing a midfielder until January at the earliest, with Zubimendi now turning us down.

Fábio Carvalho Signs for Brentford
Dr. Gonzo replied to 6666's topic in Premier League - English Football Forum
Looks like Pep Ljinders really wants to bring Bobby Clark with him to the red bull side he's joined. I still have hope that Clark will make it to the first team, so I'm less keen on him leaving. With Carvalho it's a bit of a shame because I think he's a big talent and he's had a decent pre-season (which might mean something or it might be totally meaningless, the duality of pre-season, really)... but he's not really all that close to starting for us. I think he's best in a #10 role and in modern football, it does seem like a specialised number 10's sort of becoming rarer and rarer - and I think he's pretty far from getting games out wide for us, honestly. So him moving on his probably for the best. -
No, I'm not really interested in this one tbh - I really love Fallouts story and lore, but knowing that this is essentially just going to be a fan-fiction doesn't really have me all that interested. I hope it does well, because like I said, these passionate modders are the best hope for the future of Bethesda's Fallout games - I know a lot of Fallout modders ended up in Bethesda staff for Starfield (which, sadly, is not a game I found to be very fun) - I think these modders working in an Elders Scroll/Fallout game would be a better fit though.
-
I... don't remember how it ends - I'll take your word for it
-
It's weird how both times he's left Palace he keeps finding his way back.
-
I don't really like either, but I'll vote winter because of that film about the Jamaican bobsled team.
