  1. SK Brann won the away leg 1-0 but now trail Ruzomberok 0-2 at home with just injury time left. Slovakia it is, by the looks of it.
  2. Same at every club mate, we've got Ademola, Onyekuru and Hewelt among our own youth team.
  3. Some proper English sounding names in there.
  4. I don't know how good that Twente side was or where they're up to in their own pre-season preparations but I've seen more than enough there to continue to fuel my optimism for the new season. Stekelenburg was largely untroubled but the cameraman did linger on him after the goalmouth scramble early in the second half so he may well have had a dodgy moment there. Kenny was solid, more to come from him I'm sure, linked up well with Lookman and Calvert-Lewin once or twice. Martina replaced him during the second half, didn't have much to do defensively but looks like he enjoys getting forward. Keane impressed me, Williams and Jagielka were also solid while on the pitch, but we weren't put under any pressure. Besic at centre half was interesting and might have something to it, he carried the ball out of defence well a couple of times. Baines is still an intelligent footballer and seems fit, while Connolly had a few decent forays forward when he came on for the second half. Barry was solid in the first half, McCarthy did nothing wrong but he also didn't do anything to change my opinion that he is now surplus to requirements in our squad. Schneiderlin was probably the most anonymous player after coming on aside from Jags, we were dominant after all of the substitutions in the second half. Gueye looks sharp, got forward more than he usually does and looked to add something to the attack, I believe he hit the post at one point but didn't see a replay to confirm. Lookman was our most impressive player in the first half, very threatening and skillful, just needs to be more consistent with his end product. Davies had a couple of good moments too and looks in tip-top condition, while Mirallas was frustrating at times early on before scoring a cracking opening goal that should boost his confidence. We looked even more dangerous with our finishing front four though, Klaassen looks a really solid player and showed some good link up play, Dowell scored another great goal and also provided a good cross for Klaassen at one stage, while Lennon also got himself on the scoresheet and looked fit and busy too. It's great to see him on the pitch again after his recent issues, whether or not he goes on to play a significant role in our future. Calvert-Lewin was a threat in the first half due to his physical attributes, but he still needs to improve his composure in the final third. Hopefully the confidence from scoring a (youth) World Cup winning goal earlier in the summer will boost him a bit. Rooney had a decent performance when he came on, some top class touches here and there, but also lost the ball a couple of times which saw our attacks break down - no major complaints though.
  5. Dowell makes it 3-0, good footwork on the edge of the box and a nice curling finish.
  6. Lennon! Massive deflection but he's looked sharp since coming on. Rooney and Klaassen linking up well and Gueye also looking in top condition.
  7. 0-1, Mirallas with a cracking finish after cutting inside. If he can get 7-8 of them in the league this season I'll be happy. His future looked uncertain before but the new contract shows he has the manager's backing, time to push on (again). A pretty flat first half overall. Looking forward to seeing some others come on for the second half but I hope it doesn't just fizzle out like so many friendlies do when it's just both teams trying to get as many minutes in as many legs as possible.
  8. DCL now receiving treatment. A decent start for us but then it got a bit more even. Lookman, Davies and Keane look sharp. Nobody looking too sluggish apart from arguably McCarthy. Looking forward to seeing Klaassen, Sandro, Rooney later on.
  9. We're about to kick off against FC Twente - I'm watching on a Dutch stream which looks alright. I thought I was witnessing amazing banter when I saw "Lames McCarthy" on the team sheet - appropriate - but then noticed it was just a mistake when I spotted Jonsoe Kenny. Anyone interested in the link PM me.
  10. I must be the only person in the world that didn't mind the Sheeran thing. Decent scene if you just don't focus on him.
  11. It was a good episode. Not particularly action-packed, it peaked early in that regard, but a solid first episode of the new season. Arya, the Hound and Winterfell were my favourite scenes. Daenerys the least.

I never said its not important or not a great cause, and like I've said I'm not upset about having a female Doctor because why not, the thing that bothers me is the internet mobsters thinking that they've done something great just by spewing their BS on Twitter.

I watched Doctor Who through the Ecclestone and Tennant years and for maybe the first series with Matt Smith, who I think is a good actor but I just didn't like him as Doctor Who, though this might also be because the writing went downhill at the same time, or maybe the writing was always the same and I just saw through it more when I reached that age. Having Doctor Who as a woman is a strange one, there's nothing inherently wrong with having a female in such a big role and although I'm not massively clued up on the "lore" or "rules" about the Doctors regeneration, I don't believe there's anything wrong with him becoming a woman in that regard. The problem is that there are some characters, James Bond and Sherlock Holmes moreso than The Doctor, which are male. Some people (not many) are very vocal about how it's sexist to insist that these characters have to be male, and how it represents some great victory for equality to have a female Doctor, but where their logic falls over is when you start putting the boot on the other foot. If the next remake of Mary Poppins or Wizard of Oz had a male lead character as Mary or Dorothy, would people celebrate the victory for equality? No, they wouldn't, which goes to show it is not equality that's being celebrated, the celebration is for internet pitchfork mobs scoring a victory while convincing themselves that they're fighting for some great just cause. The female Doctor doesn't bother me. The actress I've only seen in Black Mirror but she was good, and good luck to her. What bothers me is the reaction of the melts on twitter who somehow manage to convince themselves that this is evidence of some brave new world where equality rules, rather than seeing the truth before their eyes that it's another case of media bending to pressure from a minority of vocal idiots in the knowledge that this meaningless decision will be celebrated as a ground breaking leap into the future.
  14. Hamilton is winning me over after I initially thought I'd rather see Vettel win the championship. Hungary is next up in a fortnight, which is more akin to Monaco than any of the other tracks we've been to this season. Ferrari were clearly a cut above at Monaco so if Mercedes can continue their recent dominance there it will go to show that they've got their noses in front in the development race. Vettel was unlucky today, luck usually balances out okay over the course of the year and this weekend balances with Hamilton's bad luck in Azerbaijan and Austria. However, if he'd have qualified ahead of Raikkonen he could have comfortably made the podium so it wasn't all down to luck. Bottas continues to impress and is every inch the perfect replacement for Rosberg. His presence in the title race has the potential to become an inconvenience for Mercedes though, the team could do with Hamilton finishing ahead of Bottas for the next few races so that they can focus on one driver if they need to in the second half of the year. What this season goes to show though is that F1 is infinitely more exciting when you have two different teams capable of winning the championship, which is something we've been deprived of since Alonso vs Vettel in 2012.
  15. What drama at the end and what an absolutely disastrous weekend for Vettel and Ferrari. Championship lead chopped down to one point. Looks like some of the teams could have done with doing a two stop. Kudos to Red Bull for giving Verstappen the free pit stop and guaranteeing his 4th place. Bottas excellent again, Mercedes were the class of the field and I think Hamilton was driving well within the limits of the car. A dull race for the most part but a major shift in the championship battle and Ferrari will be biting their nails.
  16. Awful spectacle this aside from the Vettel Verstappen battle. Only thing that can save this as a race is some rain. Too easy for Hamilton. Waiting for Ferrari to call Kimi and ask him to move over.
  17. Premiere tonight at 2am UK time. Anyone else mad enough to stay up?
  18. Possible showers today could mix things up. Otherwise, Hamilton's race to lose I think.
  19. Charles Leclerc of Monaco has been making waves in Formula 2 this season and won the feature race from pole position at Silverstone this weekend - he's got a 100% record in qualifying. Leclerc is a Ferrari academy driver and drove for Haas in practice at Silverstone last year, he has a dominant lead in the Formula 2 championship and has followed Esteban Ocon's career route of winning the European Formula 3 and GP3 championships. Expect to see him join the Haas team, probably in place of Gutiérrez for 2018. GP3 is more open this season. Since the championship started in 2010, nine drivers that have competed in GP3 have already graduated to F1, including Bottas, Gutiérrez, Haryanto, Kvyat, Ocon, Sainz and Vergne. Silverstone is the third meeting of the year, and George Russell (Britain) currently leads the standings. Russell is affiliated with Mercedes as one of their test drivers and won today's feature race at Silverstone after starting from pole position.
  20. Palmer qualifies 11th, loves that position . Vandoorne gets his McLaren into Q3 and outpaces Alonso for the first time in qualifying. Hulkenberg faster than Verstappen in the end too, he's looking red hot.
  21. Watching this reminds me of when I went to the British Grands Prix in 2010 and 2011. Great weekend and would highly recommend going to a race weekend if you can afford it. Definitely try and do all of the Friday - Sunday sessions rather than just race day, it's worth it. The best thing about looking back is the guys we got to see competing in the support races. In 2010, we saw Carlos Sainz win one of the Formula BMW races from pole position, Esteban Gutiérrez dominate the GP3 races, taking pole and a win in the first race, while Jules Bianchi took pole in the GP2 before the two races were won by Pastor Maldonado and Sergio Perez, all five of these guys going on to race in F1. This was all before the actual Grand Prix, won by Mark Webber which was "not bad for a number two driver". We watched the race on Sunday from one of the stands in the Woodcote section, we saw a lot of action including a spin for Alonso, Alguersauri pulling into the gravel when his Toro Rosso broke down and a steward running onto the track to remove some debris to rapturous applause. There was no Formula BMW in 2011, replaced by a sports car series which I can't remember the name of. Valtteri Bottas was racing GP3 but didn't have much success at Silverstone that year, but we did see Romain Grosjean steal the show in the GP2, fastest lap in both races and a win in the feature race after Jules Bianchi won the sprint race from pole. The Grand Prix saw Alonso take Ferrari's only win that year, there was a point in the race when Hamilton and Button, both at McLaren at the time, each gained a position on the same lap on a wet track, the crowd went nuts for a minute or two, great fun. This time we watched the race from Beckett's, which is one of the best parts of the track, and you can see the turn 3-4 section in the middle of the track from here, but not the best spot to see much overtaking. Back to today, Hulkenberg is absolutely flying out there.
