  1. Microsoft launches developer-focused Mac mini-like PC with ARM processor (msn.com) Very cool. I like the idea that we're moving towards an ARM development world where the machines aren't as power hungry as they currently are. The bigger challenge of course is changing the tooling landscape to match this goal and I think Microsoft really are ahead of the game there. Now, if only someone would find a way to make hyper-virtualization a much better power standard we'd take one step closer to lower power usage.
  2. I think he'll make changes over time but for now its going to run as-is. The idea of acquiring it was to generate more revenue which it wasn't doing such a good job of earlier.
  3. While it is a shit show the irony that the biggest tool on the planet is going to make it crumble kind of makes me feel sorry for Twitter.
  4. Apparently the manchild now owns the bird app. God help us all.
  5. Have to agree that it's not a good homage to the original which offers that eerie feeling and warning. This seems more like a proclamation which isn't bad on its own but as a comparison yeah, it's not the same.
  6. You should. Dr. Gonzo has done all the pre-requisite marketing.
  7. Crazy how that market has swung indeed. I think there's room for a lot in the space considering the way AI is moving and its not just colorizing but restoration too. The amount of time a tech wastes in restoration could be cut in half with the way some of these algorithms are going.
  8. Nah we dont need to go to them haha we'll let the real photography companies come to us.
  9. You've got a startup idea. Now all we need is an electronics engineer and someone who can build one and we'll be millionaries haha
  10. Cant wait for a media student to take an old B/W film, strip the frames out and use this + a workflow logic emulator to completely colorize an old film. That would be quite the sight. Or, let the AI loose and do its job I suppose.
  11. New AI tool colorizes black-and-white photos automatically [Updated] | Ars Technica Wonders of AI and Photography Palette - Colorize Photos Give it a try with a B/W and see it for yourself.
  12. How Vice Society got away with a global ransomware spree | Ars Technica This kind of hits close to home. The fact that so many of these hacking groups rely on systems that get very little attention because they aren't managed by folks who should be doing better is something the ITSec community can't fight on its own. The fact that someone says they are on the latest patch but then has an auxiliary system that isn't patched connecting to it can cause a whole world of problems you're not ready to face. Microsoft was just in the news for a configuration block change on storage that cause over 2TB of customer sensitive data out as well. It's a strange world we live in where if you're secure and up-to-date it doesn't mean you're truly safe anymore.
  13. YouTube Gold I tried posting the link and unfurled stating it was age-restricted, but this bought back so many memories and it made me laugh so much even though it must have hurt like hell.
  14. How disappointing. He was one of the few players who I think was doing a really job up front. Gutted he's not going to the WC.
  15. “The hell with it”—Elon Musk to keep funding Ukrainian Starlink service [Updated] | Ars Technica Just a good example of how even the smartest of us is really just a cash-grabbing whore at the end of the day. I like a lot of the tech that Musk has put out but giving one person that much importance and power comes with a whole slew of other problems that no one is equipped to deal with.
  16. Just another vicious circle of how tech ignores this kind of garbage with zero repercussions but the minute their profits get hit then all of a sudden they'll have a solution to the problem. While I abhor the concept of doxing its warranted in this case.
  17. The energy is superb as is the musicianship.
  18. While the talent is clearly there I don't want that clown anywhere near Liverpool. He makes toxic look pleasant. With all the shit he's done does anyone really believe he'd consider a club where he can't run his mouth again?
  19. I can see what the writers were trying to do with the time-shifts considering it would be pretty hard to convey things that happened when the characters were children vs younger than they are when the story kicks off, but it's been a bit of a drag and I don't even think that's my gripe. Take the simple matter of Ser Criston and how he does a total U-turn against Rhaenyra, you'd imagine they'd show some of those snippets to give watchers and understanding of how much hatred was built over time that turned him into the cold person he's become now. I suppose it's also because they don't want to come off as formulaic in their approach to this new show, but we shall see with the final shift.
  20. The kids in this show are more menacing than the adults and that says a lot considering one of them is supposed to be really evil and instead the two boys doing the cut-up was some of the best villainy we've seen yet. Its pacing is certainly off and what's striking to me in this is that I really don't care for any of these characters getting offed at any point in the show. They've done quite a horrible job of creating some kind of relation between the viewer and the characters. You find a favorite about 4 episodes in and you want them to survive or do well only to watch them fail and choke in a pool of their own blood but with this it feels like everyone is just expendable and moreover their personalities aren't all that appealing either.
  21. DALL·E Now Available Without Waitlist (openai.com) DALL-E is going to change a lot of things very quickly. I can see the nutjobs who run NFTs using this to generate all kinds of content to boost that market and with each turn the AI gets smarter so it starts to mimic more of what its seen thereby generating more art and potentially fake-images too.
  22. Nintendo's Testers Allegedly Faced Years Of Sexual Harassment (kotaku.com) Every time you read one of these there's a common theme, America. It's just sad how Aerotek got away with what they were/are doing and that NOA is blinded by the necessity of having them around to not take any action against it. I also love the comment about it always being NOJ not NOA that is the place where wholesomeness started being associated with the brand.
  23. Neither can I. I feel like this is going to turn out better than expected honestly.
