  1. The Left Hand of Darkness is the obvious choice. The Dispossessed is the next one. I also love Robert A. Heinlein's books.
  2. Have you read anything by Ursula LeGuin?
  3. The astrophysics of Interstellar is based mostly on Kip Thorne theories, that's the part of the movie I enjoyed most. If you haven't read it before, I highly recommend his Black Holes and Time Warps, a book for lay readers written in a similar style to Sagan's and Hawking's best ones, although much more complex and harder to understand.
  4. Haha thanks, but I didn't mean the ending of the movie as I thought it was perfectly fine and I know a fair bit about the main theories and concepts of astrophysics - it's just that after those 3 hours, the whole experience felt a bit underwhelming... It's a good movie, but it doesn't live up to its own ambition, in my opinion. I had a feeling that Nolan tried hard to make Interstellar this generation's 2001: A Space Odyssey, but didn't exactly manage to pull it off...
  5. Interstellar Finally managed to watch it. Found the premise and the storyline interesting, and really liked the scientific plausibility of it as well as quite a few interesting and thought provoking concepts. At the same time, it isn't particularly groundbreaking and in the end, it just feels a little bit... underwhelming? Granted, a sci-fi epic of this scale was always going to be a huge challenge for the film creators, and while it's not perfect, it's still well worth a watch. Don't think I'll watch it again though. 7/10
  6. I'll take it as a confirmation that the book will feature a chapter dedicated solely to the god of football that is also known as Claudio Pizarro Nah, sounds good mate.

You can shoot a fucking RPG at petrol barrels, LPG tanks and makeshift wooden huts for 500$ in the shooting range just outside Phnom Penh. In the past (and probably now in some "unofficial" ones) they even offered livestock as targets A few months ago, an Australian tourist and a Cambodian man were killed and three others were injured in a shooting range explosion when something went wrong (they allegedly picked up an UXO).This country scares me sometimes

We did some paintballing over 10 years ago in abandoned defensive fortifications, it was fun but I was completely exhausted at the end of the day (we booked the camp for our private event) and had quite a few bruises too ... Also tried laser tag, but didn't enjoy it much at all... other than the futuristic feeling, it was very underwhelming.

Cool gear, but isn't it a bit boring to have such a long range rifle that's much better than anyone else's? I mean in an airsoft game, not an actual zombie outbreak

  12. Our squad for tomorrow's Pokal match: Jiri Pavlenka, Luca Plogmann, Theodor Gebre Selassie, Milos Veljkovic, Niklas Moisander, Sebastian Langkamp, Ludwig Augustinsson, Marco Friedl, Philipp Bargfrede, Ole Käuper, Maximilian Eggestein, Davy Klaassen, Yuya Osako, Florian Kainz, Milot Rashica, Max Kruse, Johannes Eggestein, Claudio Pizarro. Getting excited already... Will be interesting to see who makes it into the starting XI upfront with Kruse. My guess is Kainz and Osako.
  13. He's been complaining about the state and direction of F1 for years, and he's absolutely spot on.
  14. That's allowed and also quite common (especially in lower leagues) as there's no conflict of interests!
  15. No. But since he's not being paid, AFC says it's alright.
  16. Yes. Weird appointment, really. Not sure how it's supposed to work; apparently he will only be here during off-season in Australia and on international breaks, and will communicate with the players and staff via video conferences at other times... That said, he has already opened a football academy here a few years ago, and he will not be getting any salary, so his intentions are clearly good. I'm just not sure it will help much considering he will barely have any time to change things that need changing. EDIT: After doing some research, this is even weirder than I thought. So apparently now they're calling him just the "General Manager", and the official head coach of the team will be some 30 year old Argentine who played in lower leagues in Japan for most of his career... So yeah, looks like a weird PR move, nothing else.
  17. I basically grew up on classic rock, haha...
  18. I watched Shutter Island a few years ago, didn't really enjoy it though. Just not my type of movie!
  19. I have Hostiles with Christian Bale lined up next in my movie folder, but now I think I'll switch it with Interstellar and watch that first...
  20. Can't stand Tom Cruise, so have trouble getting into any movies he plays in.
  21. Thanks for the reminder. I've been meaning to watch it for years, will do so tonight after work... Love sci-fi, especially space travel.
  22. Into the West https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409572/ A 9 hour mini-series. Tells the story of the American West from the perspective of white settlers and of Native Americans. A good watch. 8/10
  23. End of an era, what a legend. Sheer talent wise, still the best driver on the grid for me. Hope to see him in WEC full time next season, and also hope he manages to get that triple crown in the near future.
