SirBalon
Marcelino will miss the Barça clash due to being sent-off against Espanyol Valencia CF head coach, Marcelino García Toral was red carded in the 64th minute of his team's game against RCD Espanyol and subsequently won't be able to direct his team from the dugout against FC Barcelona next Sunday. The sending-off occurred in the 64th minute of the game where an incident revolving one of Valencia's defenders, Jeison Murillo who had dropped to the ground in a clash with an Espanyol player but the Barcelona based side continued to play and didn't stop the game. With this Marcelino approached the Espanyol head coach, Quíque Sánchez Flores to remonstrate with him on the fact his team hadn't stopped to get medical attention to Valencia player Murillo who was still on the floor. With this the referee (Hernández Hernández) came running towards the two coaches and sent-off Marcelino without another word. Marcelino refused to attend the post-match press conference. This is typical Marcelino and it isn't the first time this has occurred... Not the fact he's been sent-off because that happens to coaches all the time and will always occur. It's his shock mental break-downs where it's not required and at moments when he's not even under pressure. He's a fantastic coach but he's never made it to the real big time (this is his biggest job) due to this. He has his team flying, playing great football and all of a sudden he goes mental until the moment arrives where he either resigns (the most frequent occurrence) or he says something mental in a press conference or newspaper interview and forces the hand of the club president to sack him. His first name is Alejandro but his surnames are Hernández Hernandéz and as you may or may not know mate, in Spain one not only takes on his father's surname, but also his mother's... It so happens that in this referee's case both his mother and father have the same surname and hence that double barrelled twining.

The wifey has very Spanish family names, Ouarte (which I think is a corruption of Duarte), Mercado, Arias, Jimenez, etc.

We just take our father’s and mother’s. My son has taken on mine and his mother’s. Apparently in southern Italy it’s also done from what my wife says. Carnivore Chris
Also a brace in that game, Messi and himself read each other very well that season. The biggest mistake with Villa was not buying him a few seasons earlier. That pass though
Carnivore Chris
Villa was definitely at his ultimate best when at Valencia though. He was terrific there, not just for his goals but his allround play. He was excellent to watch, scored all types of goals and could use either feet to the same capabilities. Had a class tournament for Spain in 2008 as well. He also looks like @True Blue, I don't know if anyone has ever told him that before or not . ScoRoss
What's happened to Zaza? Last thing I remember he was near the top scorer in La Liga and now can't get in the team?
SirBalon
Zaza’s form dipped massively after Christmas and the rumours of him leaving have generated from there although there are conflicting stories on this. He scored the other week and was live on a Spanish radio station after that result where he denied there was truth to him leaving. He also stated he loved it there but then there are the other stories stating that the coaching staff want different options for next season’s attack. SirBalon
Valencia fans celebrate in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (VAL) On the centenary year of Valencia CF the Valencia fans were able to celebrate winning a trophy right at the end of a very topsy turvy season when they beat FC Barcelona 1-2 in the Copa del Rey Final in the Beníto Villamarín (Real Betis stadium). Last night's triumph with the Copa del Rey is Valencia's 8th in their history. Congratulations to all los Che fans.
SirBalon
The internal war going on within the halls of Mestalla between the Valencia owner Peter Lim and the club head coach, Marcelino. It wouldn’t be the first time Marcelino walks out in the middle of a contract when these sorts of things happen. Here is Sid Lowe’s version... To be honest, as talented as Marcelino is (and he is), he is volatile and he is difficult to keep a balanced relationship going with. He just gets up and goes if he starts to feel suspicious. But in this particular case one can’t look further than Peter Lim for culpability in all of this and so many others relating to Valencia CF. They’re a massive club with a tremendous fanbase but are literally being ripped apart. The thing is that the previous tenures to him were crap as well. Albert Celades is an interesting choice but a very risky one because he’s never been on his own at this level. He is especially known with younger players. They were fucked way before Lim bought them to be honest. They have got to be the Spanish club with the least character you can find and have been like this for over a decade. Just look at their record against English sides during this time, absolutely horrendous, then look at Sevilla's record or Atletico's or even Athletic Bilbao's. They are absolutely awful in Europe and only seem to finish 4th when everyone they are fighting with have a poor season.

It was Juan Bautista Soler who totally destroyed the club in the first place financially. He was gifted the club for his birthday by his father who was the majority shareholder and then went on to become a dictator and alienate himself and the club where all the football people left one by one. But Peter Lim has been a total joke! He has treated the club like a billionaire’s toy.

In some senses Peter Lim saved them as they'd probably be in the lower leagues now, but what he's not doing is taking them to where their true potential could be as a man with his money could have them up there with Atletico if he didn't interfere so much. These type of owners never convince me though
