But I suspect it's rather just Bottas being crap Mercedes didn't start Bottas with a slower default engine mapping, but thermal management can slow the engine down in order to prevent damage. I wouldn't put it past Mercedes to "trigger" "overheating issues" or set the threshold temperature value arbitrarily high in order to increase reliability and longevity.
