The second British v German Europa League semi-final seems a much more difficult tie to call. West Ham have been excellent this season, but so have Frankfurt, who knocked out Barcelona in the last round. I think the Hammers might secure a tight win tonight, but the Germans will feel confident of equally securing a close win in the return leg. This tie looks a 50/50 to me.

Nothing ever came out of that, did it? He got away with it. 😐

West Ham said that they'd fined him and donated the money to an animal charity, the charity in question released a statement saying that they'd received no money.

Zouma got no punishment at all, nor did West Ham. Absolute cunts of the highest order.

A great away win for Frankfurt, they were absolutely excellent today against a very strong and tough West Ham side. A 2-1 away win in London will have made manager Glasner's day. Frankfurt were very unlucky losing to Chelsea on penalties in the semi-finals of the Europa League, during the 2018/19 season. Chelsea went on to demolish Arsenal 4-1 in the final of Europa League that year, which left Frankfurt to rue their luck against Chelsea. However, Frankfurt now have one foot in the final. They are in pole position to get there, all they need to do now is fight to the death and give a very professional performance in the 2nd leg at home in Frankfurt.

It was a great win tonight though, while Knauf and Kamada will go down in Frankfurt history for their crucial goals tonight.

Different game I reckon next week. Frankfurt are in a position where they have something to lose now, one step in the final.

Psychologically, pressure will be on them. I think that could play into West Ham's hands.

Well what a 1st leg it was at the London Stadium. Frankfurt had a dream start to the match when Knauff raced into the penalty area, to head home Borre's excellent cross. Knauff has been superb for Frankfurt since he joined them on loan from Dortmund. Bowen was then put through on goal, his shot beat the advancing Trapp, but hit the outside of the post.

West Ham soon found the equaliser though. Lanzini floated a free-kick into the penalty area, Zouma headed the ball across goal and Antonio was there at the back post, at full stretch to direct the ball goalwards. Trapp dived and got his hand to the ball, but he couldn't prevent it from crossing the goal line. Knauff then almost scored his 2nd goal of the match. He tried to get on the end of a through ball with his pace, Cresswell slid and got the ball first, but Knauff quickly dispossessed him and had a shot on the turn that went narrowly wide of the post.

Frankfurt then retained their lead with a brilliant passing move. Kostic passed the ball to Sow, he then played a one two with Borre, as Sow ran into the penalty area, Sow then managed to get a shot off that was saved by Areola, only for Kamada to be on hand to tuck the rebound into the net. Benrahma then had a long range swerving shot fly just past the post for West Ham.

Frankfurt responded 10 minutes later after Borre found Kamada in space with an accurate pass. Kamada managed to then shoot at goal, only to see his effort hit the post, with Areola beaten. West Ham then responded in injury time, as Rice crossed the ball into the penalty area and Bowen produced a powerful bicycle kick, that rattled the Frankfurt crossbar.  That was the last action of the match, in an exciting game that saw both sides create dangerous chances. But it was Frankfurt in the end, who earned the away win.
