Fanboys have been toxic as fuck long before Drive to Survive came along.

I doubt it has much to do with Drive to Survive, as much as I'd like to pin this on them.

British media try their best to paint Max in a negative light, Dutch media do their best to paint Lewis in a negative light, then add a bit of recent off-track back-and-forth between the two drivers and of course the endless stupid arguments online and this is pretty much inevitable.

I wouldn't attach too much value to a bunch of sunburnt drunkards celebrating, but I just hope it doesn't start happening at every damn race now.

It’s definitely increased the animosity with a new breed of fans though. I have no doubts it’s a contributing factor

Even without Drive To Survive it'll still be like this. It's simply because they shared one of the most tense, toxic and controversial title battles we've ever seen.

Lewis and Max fans are the worst now. It will happen every time for a while. The British fans went mental last week when Verstappen lost the lead as well and it wasn't because they support Sainz. Cheering crashing is obviously worse granted.

The pair of them aren't exactly helping the situation though. Lewis made a jibe last week about being able to race Leclerc into Copse and Max made a jibe back. People are obsessed with making the rivalry nasty and I'm just not here for it.

There’s no comparison between cheering for changes in the race lead, and cheering a driver hurtle into the wall at high speed.

I acknowledged that. They both come from a place of nastiness though. Both are cheering the misfortune of another driver. It was perceived that British fans cheered when Max was in the wall (in a genuinely pretty big crash) at Silverstone last year, though, even though most of it was just shouts of surprise.

There is no moral high ground for either side here. Both as bad as each other. If Verstappen had gone off at Silverstone last week, I can guarantee you 1000000% that the reaction from the British crowd is the same.

Your average fan at the race simply doesn't comprehend the fact that a "normal" crash like Hamilton's today where the car is barely actually in the barriers and he can get out quite easily, can actually be dangerous. I'm not defending them, it makes me cringe and switches me off from the usual excitement you get from a noisy atmosphere at a sporting event. I'm just not having though that "the Dutch fans" are the guilty ones here because it's the fault of thousands of Verstappen and Hamilton fans who have actively pursued an absolutely toxic discourse.
