Yeah more about his status and recognising his past contributions upon his retirement than his performance last season. I'm still happy for him regardless, because I do think he deserved it at least once.

The only comment to add to all that is to relate how lots of English fans regard him.  He has done more for the respect which we have for the BL and the National team than anyone since Beckenbauer 40/50 years ago.  That alone deserves some form of award at the end of his career.
