I'm in. So if I lose my initial £10, am I out?

Either way, this is what I'm going for...

Sunderland to win against Ipswich (2.45)
Grimsby to win against Wimbledon (1.85)

£10 returns £45.32 on Virgin Bet at 4.53 (yes I use decimal odds)

Nah you just lose your hypothetical tenner for the week. I'm a decimal user too and it's how it'll be presented in the table. If you know you know, and you clearly know. :D

No surprise you’re using Virgin bet

@Dan should we have one season long bet too? Make things interesting

Hadn't thought of that, but I don't see why not, I'll leave it up to everybody.

Happy to do a season bet.

Kortrijk (2.80) v St Truiden

Pau v Bordeaux (1.95)

That's 5.46, £10 returns £54.60.

I'm not shopping around for the best odds, every bet I post will be from bet365.

Crikey these are my sorts of picks. Lovely work. I might just award you the win for the selections alone!

Yeah I like the look of them but it's probably gonna lose haha.

Kortrijk's best and most creative player Kadri is strongly linked to a move to a bigger club so I hope he doesn't move before this match.

Six entries is a steady start - assuming you're in too @Storts as you said you fancied it in another thread.

We're laughing anyway. The first week will run from Tuesday 1st August to Monday 7th August so you're all welcome to make picks for that already even if they're early Champions League qualifiers / womens World Cup etc...

I already know one of mine is Southampton to win at Sheffield Wednesday. 2.45 on 365 which I think is a great price - think they're making that game out to be a lot more even than it is, Southampton a far superior squad in generally better knick for me, even if it is going to be a pretty tough atmosphere.

Most disappointingly, the longer Leicester go on failing to announce a signing that was supposedly done at the weekend (with doubts creeping in) added to the generally piss poor pre-season we've opted to inflict on ourselves, then I'm going to have to take Coventry or draw on the opening day of the season.

Leicester are 1/2 (1.50) to win the game. That is just simply too short in my opinion. I think our team is still superior to Coventry's, but we are missing a hell of a lot of the firepower. We have, in total, two players you could class as attacking midfielders or wingers and they are Marc Albrighton and Wanya Marcal-Madivadua. Two players who won't be close to first choice this season.

The game has come too early. Even if Mavididi is signed as expected, I think we're missing quite a bit and I can't go into this game taking us at a price like that. Coventry have lost Gyokeres and are likely to lose Hamer too, but they are a good unit, they're a club going in the right direction after a genuinely horrific couple of decades. I think they've a good chance of getting a point here. They do have a mental block at this ground though, they've never won here, so that's why I won't take them outright to win the game but I can see a draw, but I'll play safe and cover both options.

Coventry or draw at Leicester - 6/4 (2.50). Doubled with my Southampton pick gives me a double returning £61.25 off a tenner if I win.

I must say I thought it would take longer than this to go against Leicester but welcome back football!

Off to a flyer, so I either get a win here or Leicester beat Coventry. Think I just about favour the loss in this.

I do very well on Belgium. Not quite sure what it is - think last year backing Genk and Union St-Gilloise wins were safe most weeks and it seems, looking at the early prices that the bookies are being quite generous on them again, with USG on 2/2 wins both at around evens and Genk somehow being 9/10 to beat a newly promoted side on the opening day.

I find the league quite a fun one to bet on. Might even get on Kortrijk.

I don't think USG will be quite as good this season, they've lost some big players. They're a good team and very well run club, but everything went through Teddy Teuma last season and now he's gone to France. Boniface was very good in attack too and he's gone. I was thinking about putting USG in my double in here but decided against it haha. I watched the match and it was more Standard being shit than USG being good. They had decent odds in the first couple of matches because Standard and Anderlecht are big clubs, but both of them are a bit of a mess at the moment. They might struggle to break down stronger teams/more defensive setups, with their blunted attack compared to last season.

Yeah Kortrijk did very well away at Gent who are one of the strongest teams in the league last week, so hopefully at home against a weaker team they can get the win.

Anyway, I shouldn't take over this thread with JPL talk haha

No to be honest I genuinely think this is the kind of reason I set this thread up for - you've clearly got some insights into this that the vast majority are going to miss, that's half the point of it for me, it's good having people spot a bit of value out there.

Never bet on your own team!

Serves me right tbh for being greedy.

I was doing Stoke and Bolton all the way which predictably sailed in, but with only £27 odd winnings back, I thought I'd go for a bigger fish.

Have learnt my lesson. Play the odds.

If I had no horse in the race I'd be absolutely livid to lose like that. However I couldn't be happier.

Even better that I bet on both the teams I follow - and they both failed to win.
