Started yesterday with an Ivory Coast win.

Nigeria could only muster up a draw against Equatorial Guinea.

Egypt and Ghana play their matches later on tonight.

I have always struggled to keep up with AFCON as I found it was full of boring 1-1's, but this time it looks like it will be different. I've watched 2 games and it's off to a much, much better start than past editions.

Here he is with another generalisation.

2021 AFCON - 52 matches. Number of 1-1s? Five. Just under 10%.

2019 - 52 matches, six 1-1s. Just above 10%.

2017 - 32 matches, five 1-1s. 15% roughly.

2015 - 32 matches, ten 1-1s. Just over 30%.

Unless you forgot about the previous 3 tournaments then you have a point.

But yeah, 'full of boring 1-1s'.

Quality of football is improving nonetheless.

I was using hyperboles ffs. I have always found AFCON dull, but this time it's been off to a fun start.

Why are you so hell bent on trying to put me in my place?

AFCON 2015 - 32 matches, 15 draws below 2-2.

AFCON 2017 - 32 matches, 9 draws below 2-2

AFCON 2019 - 52 matches - 11 draws below 2-2

And that is making a sweeping generalization based off the result, don't get me started on the quality of the matches.

Lets compare the Asian Cup now.

Asian Cup 2015 - Only one 1-1 draw in I think 32 matches.

Asian Cup 2019 - 4 draws below 2-2 in more matches than 32.

Are we still going to call my post a generalization? You've exposed yourself @Stan just to put me in a bad spot. The numbers you posted are extremely high for an international tournament.

Because it needs to be done every now and then.

Yes we know, it's clear as day you're desperate to make me look bad based off reputation. My recommendation is to cunt right off.

Touchy.

Way to move the goalposts to make yourself look better after your fucking shit show earlier - and I standby that the quality feels a bit better, or more watchable at least.

Jeez take a chill pill man. I'm quite clearly just taking the mickey a bit. Not everything in life is an argument or a competition.

I’m not good at catching these indirect responses but today is a bad day after I’ve had some issues with a camera I ordered a long time ago. Sorry if my reactions are a bit out of place but I’m not in the mood for this and especially not today.

Not the most exciting of 1st halves in the competition between Burkina Faso and Mauritania, but I think that Mauritania have had the better chances of the match so far.

I think that the hosts Ivory Coast should go very far in this competition and perhaps even win it. They look like they've got a very good team.

Burkina Faso's keeper has surprised me to be honest, very secure in goal. He has the height and wingspan to stop low crosses easily, made a couple of good saves that were down to reflexes, and doesn't budge when he needs to stop high crosses. His positioning is good in that sense.

He was the more active keeper in the first half, he made a few decent saves. But I think that with at least one, he made a bit of a meal with the save. For example that shot from a free-kick that he turned over the bar for a corner, he made that reflex save look spectacular, but I think most Premier League keepers would have probably caught it and been in a better position to save it. He has been heavily involved though and he doesn't seem to lack confidence.
