Is anyone even remotely surprised that Julian Assange is fervently backing Catalonia breaking from Spain?

Maybe they've offered him a better room in any hypothetical Catalan Embassy somewhere in the dark hole he's living.

Nah his puppet masters will never let him exit the corner he put himself in. He's just saying what he's told to - like he has ever since he found himself in this situation.

So did they declare independence yes or no? Or did Catalonia just get a bit pregnant?

No he (Puigdemont) didn't...  He chickened out!  These past three weeks has seen over a dozen major national and international companies' head offices leave Barcelona for Madrid and also the mass demonstrations pro-union on the streets of the Catalan capital coupled with a prison threat to Puigdemont himself if he declared unilateral independence.  His tail suddenly crept in-between his legs and he reflected on the stupidity of the whole thing.

On another note...  There's no doubt that Mariano Rajoy has to somehow be pushed out with his government.  He has to be the laziest politician in the history of world politics....  The most ridiculous and incompetent.

This sounds like Greece when they did a vote The Prime Mister of Greece was going to come out of the EU because of their debt, but he bottled it and came back to Greece with more debt xD

There's a hell of a lot of coconuts in Spanish politics...  Actually there's tons of coconuts in politics everywhere!!!

He (Puigdemont) is just a product of Spanish culture and Spanish society...  He's no different to 90% of Spaniards!  I bet he'd hate that home truth for various reasons.

Who?

Two Moscow-linked figures have emerged as the loudest voices on Twitter amplifying news and commentary about Catalonia's secession referendum.

Research independently confirmed by Fairfax Media shows Twitter accounts of WikiLeaks leader Julian Assange as well as former National Security Administrator contractor Edward Snowden now account for nearly a third of all Twitter traffic under the hashtag #Catalonia.

Spain is one of the most politically retarded countries in Europe today, but somehow the Catalan independence movement manges to seem even less desirable in comparison.

One lives in a building without being able to leave and the other is an inept character that's been spooned into notoriety.  Then you have Twitter and those that comment...  Where do we go next in all of this?

If it wasn't for the existence of Italian politics, I wanted to respond with THE MOST politically retarded in Europe.  But putting aside unfathomable stupidity that appears from Italy's political system and their characters, Spain's politics is only a reflection of Spanish society.  So with that we could rephrase the statement.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Spanish Government will test the application of article 155 in Murcia before applying it to Catalonia.

rajoy.png

The enforcement of Article 155 of the Spanish Constitution to curb the Catalan independence challenge is increasingly close to become a reality. This morning, government sources confirmed that the Executive is considering implementing its measures step by step, in installments, and not all at the same time. In fact, the most likely scenario is the application of Article 155 in the Region of Murcia as a test scenario. If it were effective, it would then be applied to Catalonia "with all the guarantees".

"But we haven't done anything, why are they paying it on us?" protested this afternoon the president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras. The central government's argument is that "it makes sense to test such a drastic measure in an area where any potential harm is inconsequential".

The Murcia residents are now begging Catalan premier Carles Puigdemont to step back and decide to call snap elections in Catalonia, because at this point it is the only option that would free Murcia from facing a scenario "that we have not looked for and do not deserve", in the words of López Miras. "We appeal to the solidarity of the Catalan government", insists the regional president, concerned that some citizens of the area have already seen "great iron monsters" that might actually be tanks of the Army Ground Forces.

Mariano Rajoy's government does not rule out sending the president of the Region of Murcia to prison this afternoon "to see what happens".

What's for sure is that every action the Spanish government has taken has been a mistake from the very start of this situation which goes back a number of years in his actual tenure as Prime Minister.  Every step has been the incorrect step and one thing I agree with Carles Puigdemont on is that the decisions (lack of decisions) made by Mariano Rajoy and his government have made the independence movement stronger.  Had the talks been held in the first place four years back, things would've been sorted by now.

The issue now is with a stronger hand that the Catalan Government have, what would the talks entail?

If the talks are to demand independence, then there are no talks to be had.  But if the talks are to design an answer to issues or to work towards modernising the Spanish political landscape in whatever form, then it can and should be spoken about and then put to the people of the whole of Spain to decide with all the points put forward carefully and detailed with no scaremongering and to committing the mistakes that were made here in the UK with Brexit.  We now have examples of how to do and not do things in a formal manner and not the embarrassment that was the referendum of Oct 1st, first by deciding to do it when it was illegal and then how the Spanish government dealt with it in a backward third world manner.

All the same...  I don't feel there is the intelligence available in any political party in Spain and no party actually stands for anything substantial that works to make a better nation.

So it's only going to get worse!

Sure, but this one is a real story:

https://www.periodicoclm.es/articulo/politica/video-gregorio-delegado-gobierno-rajoy-pide-aplicar-articulo-155-constitucion-castilla-la-mancha-page-exige-cese/20171019124627007538.html
