Dave Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Have to fancy Austria to beat a Turkish team without Calhanoglu. Quote
Azeem Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Battle of Karansebes was fought as part of the Austro-Turkish wars. The Austrian army, stationed in anticipation of the Turkish attack, was made up of soldiers of different linguistic backgrounds. Night before the battle, some Austrian soldiers sneaked in alcohol and overtime everyone became drunk. Not understanding each other's language, the drunk Austrian soldiers had a fight which turned into a mass brawl and eventually 10,000 Austrian soldiers died in the ensuing violence. This makes it the worst case of friendly fire in history. When Turkish soldiers came the following day, expecting a heavy fight, they found everyone was dead already and took the city without doing anything. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Karánsebes Quote
Dr. Gonzo Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Austria have looked legitimately good, I think they win this Quote
Michael Posted July 1 Posted July 1 I have Austria winning this as I've liked what I've seen of them. But two work colleagues of mine are saying that Turkey have played better and are a better team than Austria. I just disagree with them though, Austria look good. I've particularly been impressed with Sabitzer and Baumgartner at these Euros so far. Quote
Redcanuck Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Austria to me have been the surprise of the tournament. I think they are the biggest obstacle to England making the final. They should be Turkey. Quote
Michael Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I hope the Austrians beat Turkey today, the Austrians have impressed me at these Euros. Quote
Moderator Tommy Posted July 2 Moderator Posted July 2 I think Austria will win this. Turkey without their Captain Calhanoglu and their best center back Akaydin is a big loss. Austria has more quality players in depth. But you never know. Turkey can be mentality monsters. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted July 2 Author Administrator Posted July 2 What a start. Turkey score within a minute. Keeper has to be out for the corner. Quote
Moderator Tommy Posted July 2 Moderator Posted July 2 Turkey really surprising me so far. They seem very well prepared and tactically disciplined. That early goal helped, but even after that they defend brilliantly without sitting back though. Nice. Gonna be interesting to see if Austria come up with an answer in the 2nd half. Quote

Yeah, I think that early goal was a huge help. I am a little disappointed with Austria though, I expected more from them in the 1st half. Quote

Michael Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Arnautovic with a shot in front of goal excellently saved by the Turkish keeper! Quote
Michael Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Laimer runs through the Turkish defence but his shot goes just wide of the post! Quote
Michael Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Posch should have done better there, he should have passed to players in space in the area. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted July 2 Author Administrator Posted July 2 Demiral scores again! Leapt very high. Quote
Redcanuck Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I have to admit Turkey are surprising me. Thought Austria would be too attacking for them. Quote
Administrator Stan Posted July 2 Author Administrator Posted July 2 Game on! Another goal from a corner. Quote
Rick Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Austria have completely fucked my bet builder. Everything else on it has landed, but I put Austria to win the game. The best I can see them getting is a draw to take it to ET. Quote
