It should be a rule that a World Cup squad can only contain players that made at least one appearance in a qualifiers.

None of this, I'm retired until the World Cup comes around shite.

Did Zidane do the same?

exactly.      but with the case of Zlatan, that man is a god in swedish football so that can't say no to him and he is still in fine form.

That's the right decision from Sweden's manager. Sure, he's a class player but the players that worked hard to make it to the World Cup and have spent the season fighting for their places in the squad deserve it more. And it disrupts the team unity to bring back an old superstar who decided to retire... up until the tournament rolled around.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not play at this year's World Cup, the Swedish FA has announced.

There had been speculation, much of it fuelled by Ibrahimovic himself, that the former Manchester United striker would come out of international retirement and be part of the Sweden squad in Russia.

However, he has now decided not to make himself available.

There is a saying that's been going around in Peru.

"only a while ago, no one wanted to play for La Blanquiroja. Now, everyone wants to be on board"

good riddance, he didn't help in qualifying, he shouldn't get his chance.

Gradually making himself looking like a tosser:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has blamed the Swedish media for his absence from their World Cup squad.

The LA Galaxy striker retired from international football after Sweden's exit from Euro 2016 but there had been speculation he may return to play in Russia this summer.

The 36-year-old was left out of Sweden manager Janne Andersson's final 23 for the tournament.
