Hi Tommy - hope the Trump virus is not giving you too much grief - unlike that performance yesterday.  At least it showed that Burgstaller is even useless against 3rd Division footballers and David needs to get one or two of them to start taking pre-season seriously.  Our ex 'Schalke/Dusseldorf' man got another two - mainly by again being in the right place at the right time, but when he went off with the youngsters it was dire to watch.  Hope Uerdingen is better on Tuesday.

Sei nett!

@SchalkeUK Reports in Germany suggest Schalke were after Ibisevic. On one hand Ibisevic is an experienced and proven striker, on the other he's 36 years old now, so definitely no long-term solution of your attacking issues. Would like to hear your take on it. Forgot to mention Ibisevic is available for free.

With a few players still isolating after the virus problem this was a so-so game, but Kotucu managed to make it 1-0 and proved again he cold be the answer for the missing goal problems.  Looks like McKennie is off to Juve so the dressing room will be quieter again..... now all we need is someone to be daft enough to take Burgstaller! The Viktoria Kon game is also off due to the virus but the game against Bochum on the 5th is still likely to take place.  Bremen game on Sky this afternoon - will be interesting...

They didn't play against us. He meant Bremen friendly was on the tele (unrelated to Schalke) :P

There are a few that have been moved as the stadia and surrounds of lower division teams are not Covid fit and would not have been allowed by the BL to be used.  Nothing to do with money or offers of money - all to do with the virus thingy!

How many times have you been to the stadium?

How long is a piece of string?  sadly with lack of flights from Leeds after the airline went out of business it is not so easy to get an hour's lift to Dusseldorf, but I was last there twice before the lockdown this year and normally  4 or 5 visits each season - depending on the Pokal draw as it is normally easier to get tickets for those games rather than the usual sold out BL matches.  When I can afford it 9_9 I like to stay at the Marriott next to the stadium, but I used to stay with liverbird in Essen or friend in Herne as the ticket inclused train or bus transport to and from the game so it is cheaper to fly, stay and watch than drive (fuel and parking) and watch Man City or United as the seats are normally only 19Eu upwards.(for us old wrinklies and kids).  Not sure when the next trip will be - this weekend's Pokal would have been easy, but as the place is closed I am stuck with the TV coverage on Sunday afternoon (Sky Sport 4 de) and it might be easier for you if hesgol covers it, althouth Stuttgart are also on Sky Sports De (5) at the same time.  Enjoyed watching the golf with your super weather in Atlanta this week! lucky so and so!:4_joy:

If Harit does depart for Atalanata, what the hell is Schalke going to do? Surely it's a common factor that you have to score goals to win, right?

The only rumor I see coming to Schalke is Kolasinac (LB) from Arsenal,...but is the goal to really just rely on Uth, Kutucu, Ibisevic to score without much help?

Losing Amin would be a disaster to DW's planning and something I do not wish to contemplate at the moment.  The defence seems to be a little more settled during the pre-season games, and the forward efforts are - particularly with Kotucu coming on strong - getting better.  Mid-field needs work and without Harit it would be a sparse start for the front men but we will not miss the young American as he was always just all over the place and had no set plan from which the rest could benefit.  Sunday's game will be against lower level opposition, could be a pointer to next week's real challenge against the Munchkins who normally start slowly.  A draw  there would be a great start for us!

Yes, I read about this loan deal being close to completion this morning. As Frankfurt have now signed Andre Silva on a permanent basis, he was always going to be our first choice forward. While Bas Dost was likely second choice. As the youngster Ache was signed this summer, the competition was getting tough up front for Paciencia. So it kind of makes sense that we have loaned him out.

Having said that, he will still find some sort of stiff competition at Schalke as well. Ibisevic was very impressive for Hertha Berlin last year, while Kutucu is a fast improving young forward. However, with those 3 competing as out and out strikers, Burgstaller is unlikely to get much playing time this season, which should be a relief to a lot of Schalke fans.

haha, apparently Schalke now want to loan out Kutucu within Bundesliga, with Hoffenheim and Bielefeld being the most likely destinations. Burgstaller ftw! :D

The BILD has reported the following:

David Wagner has been given an ultimatum in the build up to Schalke's match against Werder Bremen: if Schalke do not win, Wagner will be sacked. Jochen Schneider was also advised to contact potential replacements, such as ex-Mainz manager Sandro Schwarz. [BILD]

Sounds as if the 'leaks' from upstairs are showing up again.  Schneider has to take as much of the responsibility for the garbage we are seeing at the moment.  DW is trying to build a Lego Castle out of wine gums.  The defence is terrible - why hasn't our football director sorted out the Jonjoe situation?  Why has he let Uth and Bentaleb return when we all know that they failed last year and Ozipka on the other side was never and is never a defender to rely on.  Don't blame the builder when the boss gives him poor quality bricks to work with and swapping him for another untried amateur  - perhaps a too hard description of Schwarz - but that's what we always do - we might as well bring Tedesco back and get ready for BL2 if that's the thinking.  Sorry nudge, but let's wait until the result this weekend when we will find out which of two poor teams is the better one and take it from there!

What I find really odd is the timing of this announcement. Under David Wagner's management, Schalke lost 4-0 to Freiburg on the final match day of last season. That loss to Freiburg marked Schalke's record breaking 16th straight Bundesliga game without a win. Why have the Schalke board decided to give Wagner an ultimatum on the 2nd match day of the new season, when they could have sensibly sacked him at the end of last season?

Lets be honest, Schalke were always going to lose heavily to Bayern on the opening game of the season, so that wouldn't have come as a shock to anyone. It's bizarre that the board have left it until now to decide to take action against Wagner. Surely the most sensible thing to have done was to say goodbye to him after the Freiburg loss and bring in a new manager. At least then the new manager would have had ample time to get to know the squad and the players better. He could also have decided on which players to sell and whom to bring in.

Ozipka is a real liability in defence and god save Schalke's backline if Kabak is sold. I don't think that Everton wanted to loan Jonjoe Kenny out again. Everton were only willing to sell him for around £16.7 million(€18.2 million), an amount that Schalke couldn't afford.

Interesting that these excuses didn't apply for Tedesco and his predecessors.

Tedesco was a disaster - Max and Leon away for nothing. Best defender we had also given away.  90 minutes of a semi-final against Frankfurt and no changes - even when they got the only goal which got them to the final and he had three internationals running up and down the side of the pitch ready to come on.  That sort of leadership got him what he deserved and it was no one else's fault. Magrat giving Manuel away and Ivan packed off to Spain,  Slomka refusing to talk to Mesut's dad and then sent him to Bremen in a fit of pique.  At least DW is trying to communicate but some ears are closed and not listening - some of them are upstairs and not even on the pitch. History repeating itself - again!

PS a quote from the paper at the time of Tedesco's last weeks:

Signings such as Mark Uth, Sebastian Rudy, Omar Mascarell, Suat Serdar, Steven Skrzybski and Salif Sané have shown themselves to far from the level required to replace the departed Leon Goretzka, Max Meyer and Thilo Kehrer.:dam:

That's a no from Ralf

Ralf Rangnick distances himself from Schalke job

Speaking to WAZ, Ralf Rangnick has dismissed claims suggesting the former RB Leipzig head coach and sporting director will return to Schalke after the dismissal of David Wagner.

“At the moment, I can’t imagine coming to Schalke for a third time and certainly not as a coach,” said Rangnick.

Wagner was sacked as head coach on Sunday after picking up just six points from a possible 54. Per Bild, Rangnick is one of four coaches the Bundesliga club have identified as a replacement
