ninetytwo
Firstly, thank you for reading this topic, as I am aware there are quite a few similar topics that go on. I am hopeful that the football link involved will capture some attentions and gain support from our football family!! We are three serving police officers from Sheffield, South Yorkshire and in July, we will be taking on the challenge of visiting all 92 football league grounds in 92 hours. Within our trio, we have an Owl, a Blade and Spurs fan (That generally gets asked quite quickly!) Please don't give us too much abuse One car, 3 cops, 92 grounds, 92 hours, 2,400 miles. We are taking on this challenge to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity, which supports The Children’s Hospital that services not only Yorkshire but the entire UK due to the specialist care they offer. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ninetytwo-in-92 The Children’s Hospital is one of just three standalone specialist children’s hospitals in the UK. More than 269,000 patient journeys are made to the hospital each year and its work changes children’s lives from across the UK and around the world every day. My own daughter was born with a heart defect and the hospital looked after her welfare amazingly for a couple of years and we now have friends and colleagues who have their own children currently being treated in the Leukemia ward of the hospital. We are so lucky to have this amazing facility here in the UK to give people the best care possible. We will be driving over 2,400 miles in a car and riding bikes to reach the London clubs. We will be eating and sleeping (not much) in the vehicle to complete the challenge to make sure we stick to our 92-hour limit. We will start this challenge at Barnsley Football Club at 8pm on Friday 12th July before finishing at Bramall Lane at 4pm on Tuesday 16th July. We are trying to raise £25,000 for this amazing charity and we would love it if you could support us in any way possible. In the last few weeks we have set up social media profiles on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook as can be seen below. Any donation that anyone can give would be massively appreciated. If you are not in a position to donate then any help you can give through retweets, shares and likes, etc to help us gain as much exposure as possible would also be appreciated Every single penny that is made in charitable donations will go directly to transforming the Cancer and Ward at the Hospital. Thank you once again for reading our post and if this is something you are willing to support we would really appreciate it. If there is any chance this could be pinned that would also be really appreciated. Please give us a wave and a smile as we travel across the country to a ground near you!! Harry
Take a bow Gents. The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne saved my 3 year olds life earlier this year when he was diagnosed with encephalitis within 6 hours of arrival. Almost certainly if they hadn't been so quick to run every scan known to man and had him looked over by every department head on duty his diagnosis would have been delayed and thus delayed in going onto the anti inflammatory medication. Had that occurred he may never have made the full recovery that he ultimately has. Every child should have access to world class medical care. There is no greater cause as far as I'm concerned. I will donate.

Life is so so precious and can be put at risk so quickly and make us really value what's important. It was my first daughter that had the problems and as new parent you just can't be prepared for what could potentially happen, however the hospital that were looking after her that we're raising the money for were amazing! Thanks a million for your donation. Never thought we'd see a different currency pop up on our timeline! Would you mind if we share your donation and story on our social media profiles as sure they would go down so well?? Understand if not and thank you again so much. Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted June 12, 2019 Subscriber Share Posted June 12, 2019 Just now, ninetytwo said: Thank you - new to this!! Not a problem, my youngest brother was born with disabilities of no left leg below his knee and with fingers and toes missing and spent the early part of his life in Roehampton Hospital learning how to walk with an artificial leg and I can remember the joy on all of our faces (there was 9 of us as a family, 7 girls and me and Billy and of course my mother and father) when our mum and dad came walking in with Billy who toddled towards us walking with his artificial leg after a visit from the hospital with a big smile on his face when he was 3 years old in the early 1950s. Hats off to you guys and over the years myself and wife have always donated to charity and I have always said that if I come into a lot of money then the cash would go to children hospitals. As you say, the service available here in UK for children who require it is superb and we all should be really grateful that we have it. No problem on using the story. It was scary indeed. He'd been sick for a week before just with a normal flu bug. Encephalitis is triggered by an immune system having an overdrive response to a conventional bug. Taking him to hospital after a week of taking to the gp every day and bring told to go home my expectation was that we'd finally get some antibiotics and maybe now a drip for rehydration... But as it all unfolded and I realised I was dealing primarily with neurologists doing brain scans and lumber punctures looking for some very dangerous conditions my terror was profound. That must have been so tough to through Similar to above, such a good thing the hospital could treat and care for your child where you are. Good to see he made a full recovery too! Thanks mate. It was incredibly tough. The start especially. My wife was at home with our 4 week old baby (who we were advised to keep well clear of a children's Hospital) so she could only come in to the city to see him for the 2hr gap between feeds. Every night he cried for her and she was on FaceTime crying back apologising for not being able to be there. So much torment for a mother recovering from childbirth it was heartbreaking. When the hospital found out they offered accommodation for our whole family to stay on premises. We refused for the sake of the baby but we then rented a hotel room adjacent to the hospital which was part of the same complex and had a 24hr connection to the hospital. So much better for everyone. My wife, mother in law and baby slept there for 3 weeks whilst I slept with Ethan in the ward. After a week or so the medication was taking good effect so they took him off his catheter and other tubes and he started doing daily physio, occupational therapy and speech therapy where he pretty much learned to walk and talk and use his hands again over the space of two weeks. It was incredibly uplifting by that point as each day he was coming on in leaps and bounds. The children's hospitals brilliance can't be overstated. They had good quality futons in every room for parents, clown doctors, posse's of charity workers who go and play with all the sick kids -so many are recurring patients. A giant aquarium in the foyer and a huge meerkat enclosure you could wheel your kid down to when he just need to get out of the room. There's more magic in that place than Disneyland.
