I was just saying to my friend that if they find out there is a referee scandal like in Italy and Liverpool were found to be benefiting from it I would piss myself xD

I think statistics demonstrate that Arsenal, Liverpool and Wolves get the most bullshit referee calls against them.

If we have our own calciopoli it’s likely City are the ringleaders.

Curious to see the stats. Is it just based on VAR?

Yeah I think it was just based on VAR decisions tbh, from the end of last season. I’ll have to find it, it was either on Twitter or reddit

Coote’s finally been sacked. Took their sweet time with that tbh

Was always going to be the case (I imagine more for the exorbitant drug use and discussing yellow cards with a fan as opposed to the Klopp stuff?) but PGMOL probably want to make sure they cover all bases.

I bet the Klopp stuff was barely considered other than the mention of his nationality, which can possibly implicate him being biased against German managers/players. But the drug use, blackmail potential, discussing refereeing decisions with random people - those are all things that bring his ability to be impartial and unbiased into question.

But honestly, it was pretty open and shut - a referee doing all of this is creating too much doubt of his ability to be unbiased/objective to keep their job. Maybe they had to look into whether or not what he was doing had anything to do with any kind of spot fixing and gambling fraud too... and if that's the case, I bet we'll never know unless a massive scandal breaks out. There's so much money flying around in the league with regards to gambling and it all relies on everyone involved believing that the referees are clean and not dodgy.

Maybe I'm being too cynical but this sounds like there's more that isn't in the public domain.

I think there's probably loads out there.

Purely speculative but it wouldn't surprise me if betting/spot-fixing allegations surface at some point.

Idk each of the videos (and the pictures from that trip to Asia) all demonstrate behavioral standards that are way below what should be expected for a referee.

It's one of those jobs, like being a police officer, a judge, or a spy... if you act in a way that indicates you are easier than a normal person to blackmail, you're not fit for the job.

Here we've got a guy who's: i.) letting himself get recorded while he's coked out of his mind talking candidly about his job and saying things he knows he shouldn't say; ii.) following up that video with a recording of him indicating he is well aware that video hitting the public eye will impact how he's viewed; iii.) filming himself breaking the law (snorting cocaine); iv.) in that same video from point iii., filming himself doing his job in a billion £ industry while on those drugs; v.) getting pictures of himself taken while on holiday palling around with prostitutes.

These are all things that make him easier than a referee that's not doing all of those things to blackmail. Even if he's not being blackmailed, his conduct puts his integrity at risk and damages his ability to be perceived as a referee that can be trusted.

Each video was a sackable offense. So that's 5 sackable offenses that were leaked to the public in the space of a few days.

I think England is due for a major refereeing scandal that makes this incident look pretty minor. We've seen scandals in Italy (the highest profile one), Spain, and Germany (probably the most minor, but still probably should have seen the end of a ref's career). These are all massive leagues in countries just as football mad as England. I can't help but think one day the news drops of a big ref scandal here. We've already got a few things that give the appearance of impropriety from our refs that haven't had any real response from PGMOL... that I think could open the door for a big scandal in the future.
