England National Team Discussion

What’s happening now isn’t a shock though, it’s a departure from previous form at the World Cup and the Euros which is naturally frustrating but it’s not a shock because we have never seen a progression in Southgate’s England and it’s been quite commonly known that he’s not trying to win competitions in a way a side like Spain or Italy did. -

Mate this is a load of shit. A big pile of shit. A semi-final and a final is a good result, regardless of how we got there. England are not a world class team, we do not have a group of world class players, we are not one of the best national sides in the world, they are good results. Celebrating them isn't ignoring the blatantly obvious that Southgate is a limited manager, it's giving him a chance to create more good times. Anyone that looks back on the final and semi-final as missed opportunities are vastly overestimating the quality of our team and where English football has come from. Imagine not celebrating two good competition results because we might be shit at a comp in 2022. -

I think there’s deserved criticism for Southgate and it does feel like we could be going into the beginning of the end. But the thought process that he’s just been lucky is wildly mental. Prior to Southgate we were embarrassed by Iceland at the Euros and didn’t make it out of the World Cup group. And contrary to popular belief we do not have a world class group of players, the only players you could put in that category throughout his tenure were Kane and Sterling. -
I would genuinely be surprised if he left us it’s been such a big project and there’s still more to get out of it, but with you he will have the chance to break the top 4 eventually so I can see why he would take it. The thing that keeps him with us is that I think we can be in the same position as you and West Ham within a couple of seasons and it’d be a much better story if he does that with us. Not to mention we have a support system that is probably not really topped by any club in the league. If he were to go it wouldn’t surprise me if his current assistant Brian Reimer took over as Frank did from Smith.

Both play the same game so probably not, but who knows maybe playing with Kane will allow Toney to get into the box more -

Can't say I've seen a lot of Abraham at Roma but he was decent in England. I wonder if Southgate has looked at the formation Thomas Frank plays with us and whether or not he'd look into something similar as I think that would suit this England team quite well. -

Great call up for Ivan, he's more than deserved it this season and off the back of last season too. Do I think he'll see much game time with Kane around? No. But his penalty taking is second to none in this squad and so he will always be a good option come competition time. Not to mention he is really a direct replacement for Kane should he get injured or need resting, plus he adds a focal point up top that Kane doesn't. Elsewhere the goalkeeping options look like but there we go. Defence looks good, Maguire is always going to get selected because he has always played well for England. Until he doesn't he won't get selected, but he has confidence playing for Southgate and England and can play well in a back 3. It will be a talking point but honestly it's a non-starter for me, you have to trust the players who perform well for you and he is one of them. The midfield looks good too, feel like I'd want Henderson's tenacity in there but all of those players are out and out number 6's or 8's, defensively capable as well as offensively, no room for Maddison and I think that's the right choice. Good to see Rashford and Sancho not in the squad, think they need to do more this season to make their way in whereas the likes of Saka, Bowen, Abraham etc have been doing it this season and last. Only real question mark is the inclusion of Jack Grealish but again it's a similar situation to Maguire, he's performed well for Southgate in the past and so that trust exists there. -

I laughed at a video and that is touchy?

There’s pride and then there’s half pretending you’re Ajax because you’ve produced a couple mid Prem quality players But also not every club has the luxury of spending 100s of millions to sit in the Europa League.
-
Tony Adams, Ashley Cole and....Jack Wilshere The way they're trying to big up Arsenal's academy to levels beyond what it is is funny to watch
-
It's difficult because I can see why things have gone stale for Rodgers when you look at the squad and the lack of investment this Summer...but if someone better is available like Poch and you can get him then it seems like a no brainer. One thing I'm surprised with your squad is the lack of resale value, I think we have about £200m-£300m sitting in our squad and that's conservative. Obviously if you sell Tielemans, Maddison, Barnes and Ndidi you have that too but as a bigger club you've a lot of deadwood that should really be young players worth around £20m - £40m.
-
Is part of the reason it's gone bad not because the squad needed re-energising and you've not been able to sign anyone?
-
It’s distinctly average, underwhelming dialogue/storyline that they’re trying to hold together with big drama scenes and less than subtle social observations. Meh, will keep watching, hopefully it gets better
-
So essentially they couldn’t get enough people to pay for the subscription and PPV, even if only some events, is the only way to make it work? Cos DAZN was definitely marketed as the future of Boxing through subscription rather than an out of date PPV system
-
How comes DAZN have gone to PPV…no point buying a subscription. Not that I’d pay to watch KSI, but other fights they have are down as PPV too.
-
Mate fans make a rivalry. Most rivalries in the UK (that weren’t already derbies) were formed or intensified through hooliganism and that hatred will often stay on. There is barely any animosity between Chelsea and Liverpool fans.
-
There's a theory that all people who run for PM/President/whatever are at some level absolutely fucking mental because they have the internal urge to want to do these things should they feel they're necessary.
-
Poch would ne a great signing, exactly what this group of players would need
-
Alsonso was sheer class, impossible to dislike, part of a generation of out of this world Spanish midfielders.

AJ lost convincingly but I still think he'd do a lot better against a Fury or Wilder. He's always struggled with smaller fighters, put on top of that that Usyk's movement is off the charts its hard for him to hit him with the shots he likes. Styles make fights and I think that against someone of a similar size to AJ he will have a lot more success with those upper cuts and right hooks that went missing against Usyk. Ultimately AJ is a combination puncher, he wants to unload big time and that's much easier to do against a bigger man. I don't see Usyk beating Fury, I think Fury will smother him.
-
Would still love to see AJ vs Fury and Wilder. I think he does a lot better against a bigger man, always struggles with smaller fighters.

It's funny cos how you pronounce it is the posh way to pronounce things, but the Aussie accent sounds like an evolution of a working class London accent get fucked cunt
