The only possible upside is it may mean a potential run of games for Keita and some time for Shaqiri. I still don't really feel we've played Keita with the regularity that would be required for him to really gel into the first team so it's been hard to pass real judgement on him.

There's a transfer rumour thread for this out there somewhere. As someone else said in there I'd be keen to see him get a few 30 minute cameos for us in the lead up to January and use that to make a decision but if he does end up being loaned out, wherever he goes you'd be wanting to make sure he'd be starting most games and ideally playing for a manager known for his football and talent development. Palace and Villa don't really inspire on that front so maybe you guys would be a better option despite the championship level opposition.

I've been on paternity leave for the last 3 weeks... A lot of modern workplaces now are encouraging men to do this and my work offer up to 14 weeks paid leave inside the first year of the birth. So for the last 3 weeks I've woken up to this beautiful little face beaming up at me, and am planning my days around making sure she's getting cool experiences and challenges and mingling with other babies. It's been great tbh. I thought I might've been totally rubbish at being the lead parent but I think I've fared pretty well so far.

3 years of the current status quo would totally reshape peoples perceptions of what is a fair and reasonable decision though mate. I swing around on this topic but as the season wears on my patience has faded. It's a contact sport and I think if you slow it down and watch replays you'll find 100 little bits of Argy Bargy between players and I'm getting the impression that VAR will only result in a further increase in hypersensitivity that was already pretty bad with standard calls etc. At the moment I would prefer it to be scrapped for the rest of the season and send some people back to the drawing board to work on how it can better reflect common sense decisions. "Because technology" is not a good enough excuse for the current system with its actual increased levels of variability and microscopic precision offsides...

I think that's a specifically Italian problem mate. Safety concerns and violence as well as a significantly reduced profile within Europe and a sustained economic decline have all played a part.

I'm just frustrated at Bale really. He's basically pissed away some of the best years of his career by clinging on at a club for which he's been surplus to requirements for a good few years. He doesn't deserve the talent he's been gifted.

To be fair I think bringing some public heat down on Raheem for squad disunity is maybe a good thing for England in the longer term future. A strong signal to future players that they should leave those club disputes at the door to the England training camp.

If Sterling just grabbed him the way it's been reported I think the punishment meted it fits the crime but the media flak exceeds it.

The timing of the club World cup being so deep into the middle of the season is problematic to say the least.

At least it guarantees one less match in December for our actual main squad. It's shit by the EFL though... they deserve to have us pull out and make a point over it.
